Chapter 4

“I am sorry, ok? I promise not to drink from you again unless you want me to. Ok?” Paris said, putting his hands on her shoulders.

Ann looked at one of his hands on her shoulder and brushed them off and continues to walk. “Why should I believe you? Does Vampires even have religion?”

“Hey, a vampire promise is more binding and true than humans. A human can break their promise without conscience, but not a vampire. If a vampire thinks about breaking a promise, their skin starts to boil!” Paris said, walking beside her, trying to steer her in the direction of his car.

“Oh please, I am not stupid!” Ann said, feeling the anger rising up in her because Paris took her for a stupid.

Ann does her best to ignore Paris walking beside her. She ignored him flat out. She finally reached the bus stop. She got on, leaving Paris behind.

“Getting on?” a chubby woman with sleek black hair asked Paris.

“No, not today,” Paris said, turning around to make his way to his car. He looked at Ann through the window, but she just stared Infront of her.

Ann was deep in thought. ‘How will I make sure that no vampire compels or drinks from me again?’ After a few more stops, the bus stopped at the school. Ann saw that Paris' black Subaru Forester SUV was already in the parking lot. She rolled her eyes and quickly made her way into the school building. As she walked toward her locker, she started to take off her coat. She got around the corner and found Paris waiting at the locker.

“Stalking much?” Ann asked, opening her locker to hang her coat in. She slammed the locker shut and walked away.

“Ann, please wait,” Paris walked after her but got cut off by Shysie and Wynn.

“Hello stranger, where have you been all night?” Shysie asked, locking her arm into Paris. Before he could answer, the bell rang for the first period.

Lunchtime came and Ann found herself alone in the cafeteria because Jessica had some ass-kissing to do regarding her last essay.

“Mind if we join?” Shysie asked Ann. Shysie, Wynn, and Paris sat down with Ann before she could object.

“You guys take this table, I will find another, not really in the mood for company,” Ann said sarcastically and was about to lift her food tray when Shysie stopped her.

“Sit down and eat your food!” Shysie compelled her.

William walked by and Shysie was quick to invite him to sit down for lunch.

“William, have a seat,” Shysie told him, with no need to compel him.

“Hi guys,” William said, sitting next to Shysie. William offered one of his sandwiches to Shysie.

“You know I don’t eat bread,” Shysie said, snuggling her face into William's neck. To the outside world, it looked like she was kissing him, but everyone at the table knew that she was drinking from him. William became intoxicated and relax in his chair.

“Do you really have to? Here in front of everyone?” Paris asked, looking around.

Shysie pulled away from William's neck and gave a lick to seal up the teeth marks.

“No one knows, so does it really matter? It is lunchtime, so why don’t you drink from your girl over here? She tastes really good. You know you want to,” Shysie asked, looking straight at Ann.

“We are not food! You have no right! Why don’t you eat at home?!” Ann asked angrily, unable to get up, being compelled, “let me go, please!”

“I promised not to drink from her without her consent,” Paris said.

“Now, why would you do such a stupid thing? You have a good tasting meal, a taste you finally like and you promise not to drink?” Shysie asked. “Well, I didn’t make any promises, and as you know, I don’t like humans drinking from me, so there is only so much I can drink from William over here.”

William has recovered from his intoxicated state and was now eating his lunch without a word. Shysie compelled William yesterday to remember it as a kiss, every time she drank from him.

Shysie moved over next to Ann and placed her hand on her thigh and her other on Ann’s shoulder.

“Don’t you dare!” Ann warned Shysie.

“Oh, yeah? What are you going to do?” Shysie asked mockingly. “Keep quiet and let me drink from you,” Shysie compelled Ann before Ann could get another word out. William looked confused at the scene in front of him.

“William, forget everything of the past five minutes. You are done eating. Go hang out with your usual friends,” Wynn compelled him quickly. William got up mechanically. “See you guys later.”

Paris felt a bit of anger towards Shysie for attempting to drink on Ann again, but knew he should not make his feelings known. Wynn got up and Paris decided to leave with him, leaving Ann alone with Shysie. Paris hoped that Shysie will leave Ann alone if she thought he had no interest in Ann.

“She has drank from me yesterday, remember,” Paris remined Shysie before leaving.

“You and I are best friends from now on. You worship the ground I walk on. You offer me to drink at every opportunity you get. You live to please and make me happy. You hate Paris. You have no feelings for him. He irritates you and you cannot stand being near him. You are madly in love with Wynn. You secretly admire him and hope that he likes you as well. Tomorrow at lunch, you will tell Paris that you find him creepy and that he should stop stalking you. The day after tomorrow, you will start flirting with Wynn and you cannot get Wynn out of your head. All you can think of are those blue eyes and thin lips of his. When you find a moment alone, you will tell him how much you like him. You will tell him and allow him to drink from you whenever he wants to.”

Shysie smiled at Ann, “you may go now.”

“Shysie, I am really glad we can be friends,” Ann got up and waited for Shysie to get up as well. Together, they made their way to class.

When they entered class, Ann gave Paris an annoying look and took her usual seat. She did not know why, but she felt the need to peek at Wynn. She sneaked a peek over her shoulder and thought to herself that next time she must defiantly try to sit nearer to him. Paris noticed the peak and thought that maybe that is why Ann didn’t like him. After all, Wynn also drank from her without permission, but she does not seem upset with him.

Paris was a bit disappointed by the idea that Ann might like Wynn and not him, but decided to give it another shot tomorrow. For now, he will let her be.

After school, Ann wanted to do her homework first, but she just could not focus. She could not stop thinking about Wynn. She found herself daydreaming and before she knew it; it was dinnertime.

“Ann, dinner is ready,” Ann’s mom called from downstairs.

Ann joined her mom for dinner and, as expected, her mom brought Paris up.

“Mom, I really don’t like that guy,” Ann said, irritated.

“Why he seems so nice, and he is handsome too,” her mom said, confused.

“I like someone else,” Ann cut her mom off.

“Oh, so there is someone special?” her mom asked, waiting to hear more.

“Yes, he is friends with Paris. His name is Wynn. He is so good-looking. He has blond hair, blue eyes, these sexy thin lips, he is just to die for…” Ann babbled on and on about how much she liked Wynn.

Ann’s mom found it a bit strange for her daughter to be so love struck by a boy. “Well, when will I be meeting this Wynn?”

“Soon. I am not sure how to start talking to him. He makes me feel shy and I am not sure he likes me, but then again it is only been two days,” Ann said smiling.

After dinner, Ann happily cleaned up, singing to herself feeling like she was on cloud nine. Later she started writing Wynn love notes and kept on looking around her room, making sure Paris did not sneak in again. Around midnight, she finally fell asleep at her study table on top of a dozen love letters to Wynn.

Ann woke up with her mom calling her from downstairs, “Ann, I don’t want to be late!”

Ann sat up and took a love letter off her face. She rubbed her eyes and gave a yawn, “coming!”

She squeezed some toothpaste into her mouth and grabbed her hairbrush, and shoved it along with her books into her backpack.

“Morning, mom,” Ann greeted her mom, making her way to their front door.

“Did you sleep in your school uniform?” her mom asked, shaking her head.

Once inside the car, Ann searched for her hairbrush and started to brush and plaited it to the side.

She searched around for her lip gloss. “Making yourself pretty for Wynn?” her mom asked, teasing her.

“I wish I woke up earlier, wanted to put some effort in my appearance, have to get him to notice me.”

“Darling, you are beautiful no matter what your appearance,” her mom said, turning into the school parking lot. She looked around. “Which one is he?”

Ann looked around. “I don’t see him. Must have gone inside already. Bye, mom, enjoy your day,” Ann got out without kissing her mom goodbye. She did not want to mess up her lips. Ann was eager to get inside. She could not wait to see Wynn.

The bell did not ring for the first period yet, but Ann decided to make her way straight to class. She forgot her coat at home so had no need to go to her locker, where Paris and Jessica were waiting.

Ann wanted to get a seat near Wynn, but when she got to class, she was already too late. Most of the students are already seated. The classrooms were a bit warmer than the hallways and most of the students hang out in the classrooms in the morning. Ann took her normal seat.

“Morning class,” Dario greeted as he entered the class. Ann noticed he looked stressed, but her thoughts were interrupted by tapping from behind.

“What?!” she asked, looking around at Paris. He gave her a folded piece of paper. Ann took it with great annoyance and read it to herself. CAN WE TALK AT LUNCHTIME? Ann took out her pencil bag and searched for her black pen. At first, she wanted to say ‘no,' but then she decided she needed to make it clear to Paris that she was not interested in him. She wrote a big SURE and passed it back.

Paris was relieved and smiled at himself.

“Waited at your locker this morning,” Jessica whispered to Ann, “with Paris.”

“Sorry, I was cold, wanted to get to class,” Ann said, taking a quick glance over her shoulder at Wynn that does not seem to notice her. Paris noticed again that Ann looked in Wynn’s direction.

Shysie caught Paris looking in their direction and gave him a wink. Paris gave her a wink back even though he wished he didn’t have to continue this crazy relationship with Shysie. It was the definition of a love-hate relationship. Sometimes Paris hated her, sometimes he loved her.

The break came and Paris could not wait to clear the air with Ann. He wished he didn’t like her as much as he did, but in these few days of knowing her; he was intrigued by her. Before Paris could get to Ann, Shysie locked her arm into his and forced walked him to the cafeteria. They sat at Ann’s and Jessica’s normal table.

Ann arrived at the cafeteria without Jessica and noticed the Vampires were sitting at her normal table. She felt a bit annoyed but at the same time happy that Shysie was sitting at her table. Ann felt very confused about her feelings for Shysie. Why does she have this strong urge to be friends with such a lollypop girl?
