NINE: SECOND MEETING 2

KIMBERLY

I didn't know why she wanted to tell me about it, but I was grateful that I would be prepared for whoever Mr. Liam McGillivary was. She sat down beside me and started talking in low tones.

"Mr. Liam McGillivary is twenty-six years old and he is a successful businessman. He owns several clubs, shopping malls, casinos, hotels, and so on to his name..."

"Uhm...I thought all those things are owned by the family?" I asked, interrupting her.

"Well, anything owned by McGillivary is automatically Liam's there is no other heir and he runs most of it."

I nodded my head before saying anything else. "Alright."

"Liam has been spoilt with money since he was a kid, there is nothing he cannot get with his money and his looks, he also has a lot of connections, with politicians and underworld mafias. He gets any woman in his bed, I mean any woman..." Her words trailed off when she realized that I might pick offense by what she was saying. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat and cleared her throat. "I'm sorry."

"No, it's fine. I just want to know everything."

"It's just that you cannot talk about Mr. Liam without talking about that."

"Please, continue."

"He is a control freak, arrogant and he doesn't give a damn about what the other person thinks, he likes to be worshipped. But as you know he is charming in his looks." We heard footsteps approaching and she quickly stood up. "I have to go now."

"Wait, I didn't get your name," I said as she was hurrying away.

"Emily," she said and disappeared into the kitchen.

I took a deep breath and exhaled. The footstep became louder and I relaxed back on the couch, hoping to relax my tensed muscle and hoping not to look so nervous when Mr. McGillivary sees me. I refused to look at the person that was coming down the stairs, so I quickly took out my phone and started to look at the screen. The person walked up to my front and stood, I just stared at his shoes, my heart hammering against my ribcage.

"Miss Nordstorm?" a deep male voice asked.

I looked up to find a handsome young man smiling down at me. His eyes were the prettiest shade of blue I have ever seen, his eyelids and lashes were jet black, and his lips were full with full cheeks, but he was not the man I saw at the cafe. I wondered who this man might be. From his looks, he was rich too and I wondered why a particular set of people were bestowed with looks and money at the same time.

"Aiden White, nice to finally meet you," he said, stretching out his hand, the smile still sprawled on his face.

I smiled tentatively and took his hand. "Nice to meet you too," my throat was parched for some reason, although the weather was cold.

"Liam would see you in his study."

My heart sank low in my abdomen. The thought of being in an enclosed place alone with Liam made cold shivers wash over me, not after hearing how he gets any woman he wanted in bed, but then I cautioned myself. He couldn't want someone like me, I wasn't in his league and I was only going to get scolded by him. I slowly stood up and followed the trail of the man who had introduced himself as Aiden White.

We went up the glass stairs and I walked slowly with countered steps, scared that the glass would break under my weight. We came to a hall that had another living room, larger than the one downstairs. We went on, passing a lot of doors and entering corners. I could never get used to this house, it was so complicated and I was sure I was going to get lost in the maze when I would be going back. Different art pictures hung on the walls and I kept admiring them while trying to keep up with Mr. White.

We finally came to a stop in front of a huge door. Mr. Aiden White turned to me, the smile still sprawled on his face. "Are you ready?"

That question disconcerted me. If he was asking me that, just how scary was Liam McGilivary? I nodded severally like an agama lizard. His smile broadened and he pushed the door open and went in and I followed him. The room was spartan, with a lot of books stuck on the shelves that touched the ceiling and a ladder leaning on the side of the shelf. There was a large oak table at the center of the room, on top of it were a desktop and a few books neatly arranged, a bell, a calendar, a sculpture that I couldn't really get the form, and a small alarm clock. The room was dimly lit with only a huge chandelier hanging by the center. On the south side of the room was a glass table with a flower vase and white roses inside it, the table was surrounded by fluffy, red-rose couches. As usual, the room loomed over me.

Mr. Aiden White gestured for me to sit on the couch. "Liam would be here in a few minutes," he said and started to leave.

My alarm system went off. How would he leave me here all alone? And what in the world was keeping Mr. McGilivary? It's been over thirty minutes since I came here and he was always going to see me soon. He should show himself, so I could get this apology over and done with.

"Uhm...Mr. White?" I called as he was leaving.

He halted and turned to look at me. "Call me Aiden, please. Can I help you?" He really liked smiling because he was smiling again.

"Yes, yes. When is Mr. McGilivary coming?"

"He is almost done. Do you have something doing?"

"Er..." I wanted to lie again, but I stopped myself. I'm yet to escape from the lie I told, telling another lie might destroy me. "Not really."

"Good, because if it was work, I would have called your workplace and taken excuse from them."

Thank God I didn't tell that lie. I relaxed back and Aiden left the room, slowly closing the door behind him. I looked around when he left and decided to practice my apology speech again for the hundredth time before Mr. McGilivary comes in. I was going to apologize for the other day at the cafe and for lying that he was my boyfriend. Oh, God, it was so embarrassing. How was I going to face him?
