Chapter 3

"Reservation is all booked sir." a voice said.

Eric looked up at the direction of the voice and discovered it was his secretary, Amanda who had finished with the reservations at a resort in Romania where he would be spending a week long vacation with his girlfriend. Eric wanted to get everything concerning their travelling done on time as he didn't want any delay in their plans.

"Thank you Amanda, please mail the details to me." Eric said.

"Right away sir." Amanda said.

Eric Carter, billionaire playboy, Alpha King and leader of the most dreaded pack was a phenomenal figure. His legendary prowess spread throughout the entire city. He was the Alpha King and leader of the most feared pack in the whole city. No one dared to challenge him or his subjects. He was ruthless especially when it came to dealing with his enemies.

Eric never took no for answer. He always had his way and anyone who thought they could challenge him will only have their self to blame. Asides this, Eric was a drop dead handsome man. His light brown hair which had grown in length over the years was usually tied into a low man bun. When he smiled, his dimple was prominent.

He used girls and discarded them easily but when he loved, he loved hard. The only woman he had ever loved was his high school sweetheart. She was a witch while he was a full blooded wolf. Their love had been one of a kind but it all came to an end when she died in a plane crash.

That was ten years ago, going by the way humans count their years but in the werewolf calendar, it was fifty years ago. The pain he felt as a result of that tragedy was one he never wanted to experience ever again. If he had the power to erase the memory, he would gladly do that but it wasn't possible and so, he learnt to live with it.

Amanda left soon to do as she was told as Eric resumed back to the files he was currently handling. He wanted to finish up all pending work he had before going traveling and so, he needed to begin on time.

Just then, he got a message from his girlfriend, telling him to choose between two colours they would wear for their stay at Romania.

He decided to surprise her by calling her, no doubt he knew she would be surprised especially since she wasn't expecting his call. If there was something he had come to learn about her, it was that she liked surprises.

"Hey love." she gushed.

It always pleased him to hear her giggle especially when he called her sweet names like he was doing now.

"I didn't expect you to call." she said.

"I know, I wanted to surprise you and I guess I did. How is your day going love?" Kaine asked.

He sat back on his chair, reveling in the warmth of her voice. He couldn't imagine what his life would have been like if he hadn't asked her to be with him. He didn't love her, that much he knew. He was only fond of her which was okay by him. Love was a strong word and he had no idea if he was capable of loving ever again. They understood each other and that was enough for him.

Eric had his fair share of women but none fitted what he was looking for in a woman. All they were ever concerned about was his money and the influence he had and how they could rope him into giving them more. Eric had a bitter experience concerning that and he vowed to remain single until a woman who wasn't fooled by this came along.

"It's going well but I wish you were here to spend it with me." she said.

"I'll be home soon darling, just need to finish up with some stuffs." Eric said.

"Okay, now choose between red or white." she said.

"Definitely red." He chuckled.

He couldn't imagine how serious she was over colors, he knew it was something dear to her heart, hence her insistence on him choosing.

"Why did you pick that colour?" She asked.

"Because red is action and that's what I want in our lives." he said.

He knew what it felt like to live in a world without action. He just wasn't wired like that. He needed to always be on top of everything.

"And action we will get, only if you don't be a spoil sport." she giggled.

"You're one to talk baby, have you forgotten that you're the troublesome one?" Kaine chuckled.

"We'll see. Okay babe, that's what I wanted to find out. Thank you sugar, see you soon." she said.

Eric cut the call, chuckling within himself. She was one to talk especially when she was pursuing something, she was a determined woman and would never rest until she got what she wanted.

This was just his kind of woman but still he didn't love her. He was just fond of her which was something he was comfortable with.

"Damn right." Eric muttered.

"Sir, you have a message."Amanda said.

"Is it for me or the company?" Eric asked.

He usually got messages like this but it was usually for the company and so he was confused when Amanda gave him this message.

"It's for you sir, can I forward it to your personal mail?" she asked.

That alone rang alarm bells in his head. He wasn't expecting any personal messages and so this was quite a surprise to him. His wolf was already picking on something and it wasn't pleasant.

Eric had become wary on how he talked to strangers considering the position he held. He was bound to have enemies and now, it seemed one of them had sent him this message.

"Yes, please do. Thank you." Eric said.

He switched off the intercom, relaxing on his chair as he thought over her words. Just then, he received a notification about a new message on his mailbox. Feeling nervous and not knowing what to expect, Eric clicked the new tab on his mail.

The message he saw left him confused and jittery, he read through it several times but it never changed, it was still the same. Goosebumps were now all over his body and for a minute, he couldn't see clearly due to his rising blood pressure. Eric gripped his table, trying desperately to calm his raging heart but it was no use, the message was clear as the day. They had found him and they were coming to destroy everything he had.

"Amanda, get in here please." he croaked.

"Right away Sir."

A minute later, Amanda walked through the door smartly. When she saw the look on her boss face, she halted in her tracks. She could tell that something was definitely going wrong especially with the look of fright on his face.

"Is everything okay sir?" she asked.

She knew he had a temper and was only treading carefully lest his emotions gets the better of him.

"Everything is not okay Amanda. Where did this message come from?" Eric asked.

"It's from an unknown sender sir. I tried tracking the address but it bounced right back." Amanda said.

"Was there any forwarding address?" Eric asked.

His hands were sweating, he could feel it and he desperately wished his emotions doesn't get the best out of him. He would feel bad if he scared her into thinking this was all her fault when it really wasn't.

"No sir, there was none." she said.

"Alright, that's all i needed to know. You may go, thank you Amanda." he said.

As soon as she left, Eric flipped his table over sending all the books and documents to the ground. All his life, he had always wished for a peaceful life, one without any troubles or fear but as it stood, it seemed as if there was going to be a lot of problems for him.

"Whoever you are, I'll get you. I don't care how long it takes, I'll surely get you." Eric vowed.

He snatched his phone from a nearby table that wasn't destroyed by his assault. If he was to find whoever did this, he needed help and fast.

"Hey boss."a voice said.

"Hey. I'm sending you a mail now, I want you to run a quick check on it and tell me what you think." Eric said.

He forwarded the message to his correspondent as he patiently waited for his reply. His hands were clammy as he rubbed it on his jeans, trying to get the perspiration off it.

"Almost done boss." the voice said.

Eric sat still, counting down every second until his correspondent gave him the answers he needed.

"I can't trace this message." he said.

"What! I thought you could do better." Eric growled.

"I'm good at these things boss but this seems untraceable." he said.

"What do I do now?" Eric asked.

"Leave this message with me boss, I'll dig deeper and get you an answer soon." he said.

"Alright."

Eric cut off the call, hoping desperately that there was an answer to this mystery.
