Chapter 3

ARES

Part of me was screaming, asking what I was doing when the literal mafia was looking to collect their pound of flesh. And yet, instead of running for my life as any sane person would do, I was planning how best to make good on my earlier promise to utterly ravish this gorgeous vixen.

After our lips parted, she looked back at me with bright, blue eyes that immediately fascinated me. The way she was shaped by the things that were commonplace in my life drew me to her. That aside, she was beautiful, too.

I stared at her ashy blonde hair, which fell to the sides of her face and framed the smooth angular curves of her neckline and jaw, enticing me further. Her little gown did very little to hide the beauty of her figure, which featured entrancing curves to go along with her beauty.

I’d dearly love to have her image in my painting collection.

I leaned forward again, and my lips closed on hers. The moment our lips touched, I knew she could feel the same thing I felt. Our bodies connect. Her heart beat syncing to mine. I gasped from the thrill of it. My hand wrapped around her waist. The only thing between us was a flimsy gown. I drew her close, and she came without any resistance.

I pushed strands of her hair from her face. Our lips were inches from each other, allowing us to share the same breath. “You like that?” I asked in a near whisper before lifting her in the next second. My hands wrapped around her ass.

She squealed, laughing as she wrapped her legs around my waist and set her hands around my neck. At the new position, she moaned lightly.

“Oh, you like them handsy.” I grinned.

She leaned forward to kiss me again, and my hand crawled up her back as we kissed, purple lights going off in my brain and arcing me. I rolled her dress straps down so the gown she wore began to slink off as we kissed.

I could feel a slight wetness against my navel, through my shirt. Is that her? Is she that wet already?

It sent a wave of longing through my entire being, and I turned around when the kiss broke up. I placed her on the sink and leaned back to watch as the gown rolled down, held up only by her cleavage and her pointy nipples peeking out from under the dress. They were sharp points that shot arrows through my brain.

“You like what you see?” she asked me. Her hands rolled over her breasts and squeezed lightly.

“You’re wild, praise the heavens,” I said with a grin, taking her hand from her breast and bringing it to my lips. I kissed one finger and then the next as she watched me, still moaning a little. Her eyes bore into me, bright blue orbs that sent shivers down me.

I took one of her fingers in my mouth and bit it, then moved on to the next. She moaned, her eyes closing as the breath escaped her lips. I leaned forward and put my hands on her breasts, intending to lower her gown, when there was a knock on the door.

We both jerked at the knock and turned to stare at the door.

“I don’t think we should be doing this here,” Liz muttered after a few seconds.

I turned to her, intending to convince her that we were just doing exactly the right thing at exactly the right time when the knock came again.

“What on earth are you people doing in there? I can hear you whispering from here. Don’t you have any shame?” Slightly quieter, but still audible, the voice said, “People are just so trashy nowadays.”

Liz wrapped her hands over her chest and pushed her gown straps back over her shoulder. She lowered her gaze, clearly affected by the words.

I glared at the door, but it was clear that Liz and I wouldn’t be finishing anything now. If I ever figured out who had interrupted us, I would make sure that they paid dearly.

Still, I hadn’t become one of the most successful businessmen by quitting when things started looking bad. “You think they’re gone?” I asked, gesturing to the door. Maybe I should go and check . . .

From the corner of my eye, I noticed Liz’s hand reaching toward my shoulder. I tensed and grabbed her before the hand could land properly. I dragged it away from my shoulder.

“That’s the second time that has happened,” she said, clearly surprised.

Just because we nearly had sex didn’t give her leave to touch my person any way she wanted. Maybe she was like all the other women out there. “It’s a force of habit,” I replied simply, voice cold.

She shrank back at my tone but continued speaking. “Don’t open the door yet. Please. We don’t know if they’re gone.” She swallowed. “If we are caught in here, it will just be another scandal to you, sure, but to me, it will be the end of my career. I’ll be done before I can even get my work off the ground.” She clasped her hands as if praying to me. “Please,” she begged.

I heard the pleading in her voice and saw the fear in her eyes . . . and it intrigued me. Who is this person? From her words, maybe she was from a different world than the rest of the guests at this event.

She’d claimed, like many, that she came here to make her career take off, but unlike every other person who’d said that to me, she didn’t seem to want to take advantage of me. It was possible to use a scandal with me to garner business, but she wasn’t jumping at the opportunity.

Why was she acting so differently?
