Chapter 6

After the interview, Eren returned to his room and sat silently. Rory Anne spears; he had been wondering what she looked like, and why she kept coming up in his thoughts. Starting tomorrow, he'll have to observe her performance. He has no idea why he chose her, but he felt that a little torment wouldn't harm. With time, she will grow accustomed to him, and if she can stay long enough, he may consider trusting her.

He let out a sigh. He hasn't visited the hospital since his parents died, and his cousin has been in charge of everything. He wished he could at the very least quit wasting time around the house and get some work done.

He was homeschooled, thanks to his butler, who made sure he acquired some crucial lessons if he wanted to follow in the footsteps of his parents and grandparents and become a doctor. He comes from a family of doctors.

Eren was a bright child, and it was because of this that he was able to survive in many situations around the house, or that he had the confidence to speak back to his father's brother, Mr. Khan, or any of his relatives. He would be eternally thankful to Mr. Lewis for raising him in the manner in which he would have raised his own child. Eren had wondered who his enemies were because it took so much loyalty and risk for Mr. Lewis to keep him safe.

His cousins wanted his money, which he refused to give up, and his uncle? He pretended to love him, but Eren was well aware that it was all for his own riches.

"I'm glad you're pleased with today's choice." With a cup of water and his medicines, Mr. Lewis walked inside Eren's room. "I noticed you looked like you were having headaches, so I brought your medication." He took Eren's hand in his and put the aspirin in it.

"I'm fine, Mr. Lewis, I don't have any headaches." Mr. Lewis refused to take back the tablet, so Eren shoved it back.

"Young master, you're going to need it. Please take it and get some rest. Tomorrow is a new day, and there will be a lot of people in the house." Eren opened his hand and took the pills from his butler, as well as the mug of water.

Before sipping the water, he opened his mouth and dropped the pills inside. He went beneath the cover after handing the mug to his butler.

Mr. Lewis bowed his head in respect before exiting the room, but he was stopped short of exiting fully. "Did you notice anything unusual about the girl I chose today? Please remind me of her name." His head was resting on the pillow and his face was still looking forward.

"Miss Rory,"

"Yes, Rory Anne Spears," As he brought the blacket closer to his chest, he grinned.

"That's Odd, young master; I'm amazed you recalled her name. The names of your maids aren't always remembered."

He nodded slowly and laughed, which surprised Mr. Lewis since he hadn't seen him smile in a long time. "She's got a unique name. Is she attractive?" Eren asked, prompting his butler to cough. "I'm going to take that as a yes. She'll be a lot of fun to play with." He gave a mischievous grin.

"She isn't a toy, young master," Under his breath, his butler mumbled.

"You stated that I must make them fear me. Didn't you?"

"Yes, sir," His butler agreed with him.

"Then don't get in the way when I'm trying to force her to submit to me." He breathed in and closed his eyes for a few moments. "You are free to leave now, and on your way out, switch out the light."

"Yes, sir,"  Before locking the door behind him and exiting Eren's bedroom, his butler did as he was told and turned the light off.

He couldn't say whether she appeared to be a good person, but if she did, he'd have so much fun with her that she'd want to leave the mansion. How dare she brag about how attractive she is in front of him? She has a lovely name, but when he stood in front of her and questioned her earlier, he could sense her hatred. How dare she make such a mocking grimace to her master's face? He would find a way to kick her out of the mansion once she had paid the price for being impolite.

Eren yearned after his thinking and settled down for the night.

"I'm really sorry, mum; I'm well aware that I've offended you. Please, just let it go." Rory's mother chased her around the house with a pair of slippers in her right hand, making Noah laugh as he laid on the rug.

"You useless girl, why have you returned here?" Rory clenched her hands together, asking for forgiveness, while her mother screamed. "I'm ashamed I gave birth to you." She groaned.

She'd heard her mother enter the house as soon as she returned from section A after the interview, and they'd been arguing. Her mother, on the other hand, isn't ready to hear her side of the story.

She had threatened to kick Rory out of the house and was not willing to listen to her.

Rory called out, "Mother."

"I'm not your mother," she clarified. "Your mother passed away the moment you walked out of his house two months ago."

"But, aren't I here now?" I've returned home and I am prepared to hear whatever you have to say. Please, Mother, give me a second chance. If not here, I don't know where I'll go." Rory knelt and cried out her heartfelt apology. All of her efforts would be in naught if her mother hauled her out of the house. She doesn't want her only family to abandon her.

Her mother burst out laughing. "You have no shame, Rory,  I recall you bragging before you left. You were planning to relocate to a bigger city in order to increase your earnings?" She scoffed. "Where is the money now?" She inquired.

"I couldn't find any, but I'm here now, mum, to listen to you." Rory continued to beg while still on her knees.

Her mother took a seat on the couch. "Are you truly going to do whatever I ask?"

Rory drew closer to her mother with a nod of the head. "I'll do it, mummy," she replied.

"Then get married, Rory. Get married so we can get out of here." She gestured around the house. "So we can go to a bigger place." Rory leaned back as her mother said.

"I'm afraid I can't, mother," She said. "But I have some good news regarding increasing my earnings."

Her mother groaned and rolled her eyes. "Come on, Rory!"  She yelled angrily and stood up. "Believe it or not, you've been fooling yourself. You aren't educated enough to find a higher-paying job, so accept reality and marry."

"Mom, I didn't say anything about finding a better job. I've recently been hired in Section A." Rory's comment caused her mother to return to her seat slowly.

"What? You?  How did you get chosen?"  Her mother had asked.

"You've condemned me yet again. Anyways," Rory stood up from her knees and sat close to her mother. "I've been hired as Mr. Eren's personal maid and will be paid $25,000 per month."

Rory was mocked as her mother and Noah exchanged glances. "Did you just hear what your sister said?"

Noah gave a slight nod. "Those jokes are expensive, Rory Anne."

"But it's not a joke—Noah, remain silent when the elders speak." Rory frowned.

Her mother sprang up and walked to her room, peeping out and glancing at Rory. "Get ready for marriage, Rory Anne, and quit fooling yourself." She walked back into the room, shaking her head.

Rory groaned and shifted her gaze to her brother. "How do you think I can make Mom like me?"

"Just run away from home again, in my opinion, because she will never accept you unless you make a lot of money or get married to the man she chooses." He rose from his rug and returned to his room.

Rory let out another sigh. If her mother does not allow her to live her own life or have some faith in her, she will probably run away again. How could their relationship collapse so quickly after her father's death? Why does she have to carry all of her family's responsibilities?

If only she had a little more luck in life. If only life had been easier for her, and she hadn't had to walk through so many bumps before she could put food on the table for herself and her family. If only life had taken into account how happy she would be if she had everything she had ever wanted, then she would be content even if it meant staying poor.

All she wanted was to be happy and see her family happy, and not have her mother force her to marry a man just for financial reasons.
