She's my mate

Kenton

'Everything go okay with the she-wolf?' My best friend and future beta, Asher asks through the mind link as soon as I've dressed and fall into the driver's seat of my car.

'Yeah.'

'That was crazy. I can't believe she almost wolfed out right in the middle of class,' he says, laughing likely at the memory. 'Did you know? I wonder which pack she belongs to.'

'No, I didn't,' I tell him as I put the car in gear and begin pulling from the lot, heading toward our pack lands. 'And I don't know that she has a pack. I got the impression that she didn't even know that she was a wolf.'

'What?' He asks, shouting through the link. 'What are you going to do about her?'

Sighing, I run my hands through my hair, 'I've got to talk to my dad.'

'Woah, man,' he says, sounding surprised. 'You're going to the Alpha?'

'I have to,' I tell him as I turn down an all too familiar gravel road.

'What? Why?' He asks, 'Why not find out more about her first?'

'Because...,' I say, hesitating to say the next part.

'Because why?' He asks impatiently.

'Because...she's my mate.'

'Oh,' he mutters, then what I said must have sunk in, because his next words are more of the reaction that I had been expecting. 'Holy shit, man!' I can feel his surprise and excitement through the link. 'That's...,' he trails off, at a loss for words.

'Nearly impossible,' I say, filling in the blank.

'Amazing. A blessing. Incredible,' he says, his voice still holding a hint of disbelief. 'You're lucky as fuck man! Not gonna lie, I'm totally jealous.'

'Yeah...,' I think with a sigh, still in shock myself. 'There's more but you can't tell anyone.'

'I swear on my honor as your future beta,' and although he's quick to say the words, I know that he's good for it.

'She's a white wolf.'

'No shit?' He asks, clearly stunned. 'But that's like...'

'Even more impossible than her being my mate?' I question, 'Yeah.'

'Wow! I thought white wolves were just a myth,' he says in a near whisper.

'I did too.'

'Where is she now?' He asks as I pull into the drive, seeing pack members already gathering for our monthly moonlight run.

Asher walks over when he sees me get out of the car.

"I think she went home," I tell him with a shrug.

"You think?" he asks, narrowing his eyes at me.

"Yeah," I say, rubbing the back of my neck with my hand, "after she shifted, she kind of freaked, not that I can blame her if she knew nothing of our existence—let alone that she was one of us." Shifting so that I'm leaning against my door, I hook my thumbs into my front pockets and continue. "She ran off. I followed her but kept my distance to try to give her space to get to know her wolf and come to terms with what she is. I must have fallen asleep, and when I woke up, she was gone. I followed her scent trail back to the school parking lot. The only vehicle left in the lot was mine. So, she must have shifted back and gone home."

"You assume that she knows how to shift back," he says with a pointed look, "what if she doesn't?" He asks with his right eyebrow lifted, giving me a look that says he thinks I'm an idiot for not having considered it myself. “We're about to have our entire pack out in the woods for a moonlight run, and there's a possibility that your mate, a nearly unheard of white wolf, could be out there—with no pack ties? She's basically a rogue man.”

"Fuck!" I growl, looking around for my dad. 'Dad? I need to talk to you now!' I say, mind linking him.

'This had better be important. It's almost time for our run,' he growls through the link.

'It is,' I swear.

'Meet me in my office. I'm on my way now', he says then cuts off the link.

I nod at Asher and rush up the steps of the pack house, heading for my dad's office.

As soon as I make it to his office, he's already there. Shutting the door behind me, I waste no time beginning speaking. "I found my mate," I state.

"That's great. But, couldn't that announcement wait, Son?" He asks, clearly irritated but his eyes are alight with excitement, knowing how rare fated mates are in our world.

"No, because that's not all," he nods, indicating that I continue. "She doesn't have a pack."

"So, she's a rogue?" He asks, his voice taking on his Alpha tone.

"No, I don't think so. She didn't even know what she was, I'm positive of it. But, Dad—she could be out in the woods right now and she's..." I hesitate to say it. I know that I can trust him but it's not my secret to tell and I've already told Asher.

"She's what, Son?" he asks, looking at me with concern.

"She's a white wolf, Dad," His eyes widen as he takes in a surprised breath.

"Tha—that's not possible," he mumbles, taking a step back from me.

"But it's true. She's a white wolf with violet eyes.”

"Wow," His wide smile now replacing the look of shock on his face, a relief, "This is incredible. You've been truly blessed, Son."

"Yeah, but she could be out there," I say, pointing out the window towards the forest. "What about the run? What if someone finds her? She's unaligned."

"I'll take care of it. Don't worry," he says, his Alpha mask dropping back into place. "Come on," he orders, stepping around me and opening the door. We step out and head down the hall.

He must sense my nerves, because before we step outside, he turns to me, "It will all be fine, Son," and then turns to address his pack.
