Chapter 14| Jealous
After a half-hour, I was almost a half mile away from Angela's house. I took a glance at the stall of roasted and grilled chicken at the roadside. There were more chicken stores here. Looked like people in this village buy that kind of food.
I couldn't blame them anyway. Grilled chicken was quite delicious. Most especially, it smells good.
I looked at my watch, a few minutes before lunch. I decided to park my car at the side of the road, unbuckled my seatbelt and get outside of the car.
People on the street instantly looked in my direction, most especially in my car. Looked like this was their first time seeing this car model.
Why would I not be having the latest car model? Our company is a car manufacturing company.
I just ignored their stares and wore my sunglasses. I walked towards the stall. I bought two whole pieces of grilled chicken. Afterwards, I went to the convenience store to buy ice cream, chocolates and drinks.
I just remembered the kids, Maymay and Kokoy. That was why I bought these foods. I bet they would be happy about this as well as Angela.
Few more minutes of driving, I was finally at Angela's house. I immediately got outside the car and carried all the foods I bought lately.
I walked towards Angela's house and knocked against the front door. Right after that, the door opened.
"Clark..." Angela uttered. Looked like she was surprised by my sudden appearance. She smiled at me and took a step forward to give me a warm hug which surprised me.
My body froze for a second then decided to hug her back tightly.
Ahh... Angela never failed my heart to race and feel alive every time she's near me.
What a lovely day.
"I thought you weren't coming..." she whispered and let go of our hug. I looked at her intently and made a small laugh.
"I made a promise. I will not break it. I've never broken a promise to you ever since," I hit her with a punch line which made her face turn red like ripe tomatoes. The curved of my lips grew wider.
How cute is she?
Her gaze shifted to my hands. Her forehead creased. Looked like she was guessing what was inside the bag in my hand.
"What's that?" she asked, referring to the large bag I carried.
I chuckled. Angela seemed to have forgotten to let me in first inside her house.
"I just bought these for our lunch," I answered and at the same time raised my two hands where the things I bought were hanging.
"Oh my gosh, Clark! That's too much for a single lunch!" she exclaimed while her eyes widened and covered her mouth in surprise; looking at the large bag.
"That is a lot..." she added. I just smiled at her in response and shrugged my shoulders.
"Would you mind entering me inside your house? The bag is getting heavy," I asked and awkwardly smiled.
I saw her face change in an instant.
"Oh! I'm sorry! I almost forgot. It is just... I am surprised by your sudden appearance because I thought you wouldn't come. So, please... come on in," she explained and shyly bowed her head as she opened the door widely to let me in.
As I entered her house, she helped me in carrying the food. We were happily heading to the kitchen but suddenly my feet stopped walking when the door on the left side of the house opened and Bel was in that room. She was currently yawning, looked like she wasn't aware of her surroundings and she came from a deep sleep.
She stopped in an instant from what she was doing when our eyes met. She cleared her throat and gave me the same stare like how we first met.
"Hey, Bel! I'm glad you're awake. Let's go to the table and let's eat. Clark bought us some food for lunch. Come on!" Angela excitedly invited Bel and afterwards giggled. Bel smiled at her then shifted her gaze in my direction. She was looking at me with a serious face.
Seriously? What's her problem with me?
"I'm coming but I need to clean first," she answered and re-entered her room. Angela didn't utter a word. She just shrugged her shoulders and continued walking heading to the kitchen. I walked next to her.
We were preparing the food and plates on the table when I suddenly stopped and looked at her.
The scene I have seen lately keeps on pestering my mind.
Why is Bel sleeping in Angela's house? I know they are best of friends but there's something off in her move and the way she treats Angela.
I sighed deeply before I speak. I needed to voice this out.
"Is Bel sleeping in this house?" I asked out of curiosity. I couldn't stand it anymore. I've been consumed by my curiosity about whether Bel sleeps here many times.
Angela shifted her gaze to me after putting the plate of grilled chicken on the table.
"Yes, she sleeps here sometimes. She even helps me with the house chore and with my siblings when she's not busy," she answered happily and continued preparing the food. At that moment, I felt a bit jealous.
"Where are your siblings?" I diverted the conversation and shut my eyes tightly. I didn't like the idea that Bel is sleeping in her house.
"Oh! They're in the backyard. They are bathing. Wait, let me call them," she was about to leave when I held her arm to stop her.
"I will call them. Stay here," I offered. She looked at me first and later on nodded.
"Okay," she agreed. I freed her arm and started walking but later on, stopped. I went back to Angela while scratching my eyebrow.
"Uhmm... Angela, can you point the direction to the backyard?" I shyly asked.
She chuckled a bit after hearing it before pointing in the direction.
Geez! That was embarrassing.
"Thanks..." I smiled shyly as I walked to the backyard.
