Chapter 8| Reunite
Angela's POV
"Big sister!!!" Maymay greeted me excitedly when I entered the house. I gladly hugged her tightly. After a second, she let go of the hug and helped me with the bags of food that I was carrying.
"Where's your brother Kokoy?"
I asked and roamed my eyes around.
"Brother is in his room, sleeping," she politely replied. From what I heard, I nodded and we walked together toward the kitchen.
She placed the bags on the kitchen table and excitedly picked up the cooking utensils that were going to be used. I also started to take care of the ingredients.
"Big sister, someone came here lately. He's looking for you," Maymay said while she was busy with what she was doing.
"Who is it? But hey... Remember what I've been always reminding you and your brother, huh? Don't talk to someone you don't know. Maymay, it's dangerous," there was a melody of concern in my voice as I sliced the vegetables.
"But big sister... He knows you well and he said you also know him—" I rose my right hand, sending her a signal to stop what she wanted to say.
"Maymay, enough. Just don't talk to strangers. There are many bad guys here in the village," I said and went back to what I was doing.
"But he says he's Clar—"
"Maymay! What did I say earlier?" I interrupted her and wore a long face. She pouted her lips in front of me and never speaks again.
"Just wake up your brother. The food is already done," I commanded. Maymay silently left the kitchen. She went straight to the room to wake up Kokoy.
I sighed and shake my head. I went back to what I was doing and prepared the plates for dinner.
"Come here, let's eat." I invited them after I saw them approaching my direction.
"By the way, how's your school?" I asked before putting the food in my mouth.
"It's fine, sister. I can cope up in the class," Kokoy politely responded while busy putting rice on his plate.
I nodded at what I heard and shifted my gaze to Maymay.
"You, Maymay? How's your school?"
I asked patiently. Maymay didn't utter a word which made me worried. I frowned as I put down the spoon I was holding and stared at her sympathetically.
"Maymay, how are you at school? Why are you quiet? Aren't you feeling well?" I worriedly asked and touched her neck and forehead.
"Big sister, you don't want to listen to what I said earlier. Someone came here—"
"Here we go again, Maymay," I uttered as I combed my hair because of losing patience.
"It's true, big sister! Isn't it Kokoy?" she turned to her brother. Seemed like she was looking for an ally.
I could see the sudden lightening of Kokoy's face as if he remembered something.
"Ah! Yes, big sister! Maymay is right. Someone came here earlier. His name is Clar—"
"Angela!" I was startled by the sudden appearance of Bel behind me.
Because of that, Kokoy stopped at what he wanted to say.
"Bel! You scared me to death! You just popped out like a mushroom! My goodness!" I hissed and slapped her arm which made her wince and laugh at the same time.
"I'm here to eat. What's the dish for today?" she asked with a laughed and picked up her plate before sitting down in an empty seat.
I couldn't help but smile and shake my head at what I was seeing.
Bel is Bel.
"Sauteed sardine," I replied.
"Wow! I'm sure it's delicious because you're the one who cooked this," she complimented and winked at me before getting rice and dish.
"It won't work, Bel. You're just complimenting me so that I will let you eat here," I teased, and then she laughed.
Guilty!
"Nooo!" she answered immediately while laughing.
Maymay and Kokoy laughed too.
We ate happily together but for just a few minutes, there was a knock on the door that made us stop. I glanced at the door and at Bel.
Tok! Tok! Tok!
The knock repeated. I curiously look at Bel.
"Do you have anyone else expected to come here, Bel?" I asked. There was a curiosity in my voice. She frowned while thinking.
"No one," she replied.
"Maybe it's Waldo?" there was a suspicious melody in my voice while asking her.
Waldo was her companion in doing bad habits.
"Huh? Waldo? No! Waldo isn't here in the village anymore. The police caught him last week," she explained. My eyes widened in surprise. It was unexpected. All I could do was nod and head to the front door.
Tok! Tok! Tok!
"Wait!" I shouted to the person who kept knocking outside.
Who is this?
I quickly opened the door. When I looked up, my eyes widened and my lips formed an "o" because of the unexpected visitor standing in front of me.
"Hi..." he said shyly and smiled a little at me.
I hurriedly closed the door again and leaned against it.
I held my chest tightly. I felt my heart want to go out of my chest.
Did I see him? Or maybe I'm only hallucinating?
"Who is that, Angela?" Bel asked from the dining and approached me. She frowned and wondered at my behavior after seeing my face. She was almost close in my direction when suddenly her phone rang. She stopped and looked at the caller's id. She seemed to hesitate whether to answer the call or not. She even looked at me. I just nodded at her.
"Answer that, Bel. Maybe that's important," I said. She nodded at me as if she agreed with what I said. She answered the call and walk away, heading back to the dining.
I looked back at the door again.
Is that him?
I asked myself again and bit my thumbnail because of the nervousness and excitement feeling eating my entire system.
Tok! Tok! Tok!
I was startled when he knocked for the nth time.
"It's now or never,” I whispered. I sighed and bravely face the door again. I slowly opened it.
"Hi," he uttered when I finally opened the door.
"I'm back."
I felt my heart skip a beat. Butterflies started to roam inside my stomach.
"Angela..." he added.
