CHAPTER 6
Ruby slept comfortably at Harvey’s chest. She didn’t know why she always feel like that but she loves it; the feeling of being comfortable around him. He patted her hair before he kissed her forehead.
“You must be tired, sleep early. I will wake you up in the morning,” Harvey said and Ruby smiled and closed her eyes.
With Harvey there she had nothing to worry about.
It might have started as a way of Ruby to make sure he slept well but he got used to it that whenever he slept alone, he felt so lonely. He always knew that the kind of feelings he harbors for his older step sister weren’t normal but he just couldn’t himself.
He was weak when he was a child unlike his older siblings. He rarely remembered his mother’s face. His mother died when he was just three years old. He was raised by countless nannies. His sister and brother were too busy to play with him.
He was just so lonely and it pained him so much. When his father married Ruby’s mother he was so sad since he thought that this woman was replacing his dead mother. What if she abused him?
But then he saw that smiling young girl around his age. She didn’t hate him but she was curious about him. She played with him and gave him all her attention. For the first time he didn’t feel lonely at all.
He was so eager to go to school so that he could be with her. Ruby was a prodigy of many things. He had never seen such a person before. Ruby trained in taekwondo, judo, karate and boxing, which was unusual for a girl. Why was she so interested in fighting?
That question was answered when he saw just where she used all that training. No one bullied Ruby, her friends or him. She was feared by everyone and even the boys couldn’t approach him which made him so happy. He didn’t want anyone to take Ruby away from him.
She was good at her academics too which made their parents not to worry much about her behavior. Because he saw how strong and courageous Ruby was, Harvey began to follow in her steps.
He trained so hard so that no one would step on him too. He wanted to protect his sister and those that he loved from any harm. He wanted to make his family proud so he studied hard just like his sister.
He followed her into the University they were both currently in. she became the student council president for two years in a row which was something that had never happened before. He was really proud of her and didn’t want to disappoint her.
He thought so highly of her and didn’t want to lose her which is why he was so afraid of telling her of how much he really loves her. Not as his sister but as a woman it might be crazy but she is his first love, she is the only girl he had ever wanted to kiss and embraced like that. He just couldn’t do it with anyone else.
He still remembers the day he had his first kiss. He was in high school and Ruby had just graduated. She was overjoyed and in an extreme jovial mood that she hugged him and kissed him straight on the lips.
He was so shocked that she noticed it but instead of stopping she even joked with him.
“Is that your first kiss?’ she asked him but he couldn’t answer her.
He was so embarrassed and he just couldn’t do it. He wanted to run away and go as far from her as he could but she pulled him closer to him and smiled.
“If that was then it should be good,” she said and lowered her face to his again.
He felt her lips touching his and he knew he was in trouble. She kissed him until he kissed her back. After a while she broke off the kiss and smiled at him.
Now my brother is no longer a kid. Don’t embarrass me out there when you get yourself a girlfriend,’ she said in a teasing tone and left.
To her it might have meant nothing but to him it was everything. He was professed to by many girls that he tried to forget about her but it never worked. Every time he tried kissing with a girl the only image that would crop up was Ruby. Her face, her smile and everything just haunted him. Just being with her now was a lot.
She hugged him close and he smiled. She was really tired after doing all that work. He was going to miss her when he leaves for the trip. He didn’t want to go but Ruby went all nuts on him. He was going to leave with his friends and classmates and have fun whilst they could. He finally closed his eyes and dosed off.
Ruby woke up earlier than Harvey as always. He was sleeping so soundly she was reminded of back then when he couldn’t sleep because of the night mares. She crawled out of bed quietly so that she wouldn’t wake him up.
She went to her bathroom where she took a nice hot shower. When she was done she left the bathroom and returned to her bedroom so that she could find some clothes to wear from her closet. When she came out he was not there.
She just shrugged her arms and thought that maybe he left for his room to take a shower too. She went to her closet and smiled when she got there. Harvey had prepared an outfit for her already.
