CHAPTER 5
She ate her sandwich which had a fully cooked egg, bacon and some tomatoes with sauce. She liked her sandwich full. She only took a few big bites and she was done. She wiped her lips and hands before she took her phone and left the office.
Gina followed her out of the building which looked very normal just like any other buildings. Her car was already waiting for her. Gina helped her to get inside and the car left for the vet.
There were so many benefits of being the Viper but they cost her life and she had to continuously consume a deadly substance so that she could live. They arrived at the vet and she walked in like she always does. There was no one around, just the way she wanted.
“Welcome, Viper,” the vet who also happens to be the youngest priest of her Oracle said.
“How is business, Priest?” she asked as she walked towards the glass containing those vicious vipers.
“Because of your grace, it is blooming. I’m planning on opening another vet clinic soon.”
“That’s good news. Do you have the funds?”
“I have, thank you for asking. Ever since I became a Priest, I have learnt to manage my funds wisely. I wouldn’t want to face your wrath,” he said.
“You don’t have to. You belong to my Oracle and there are benefits of being there. If you ever need anything don’t hesitate to come and find me. I will help you in any way.”
“I will bear that in mind. Should we start now?” he asked.
“Yes, let’s do this,” she said as she sat down.
She watched as the young priest took out the first viper out of the glass. The snakes could easily sense her. The priest put the snake down and it crawled to where she was and it began to crawl on her skin before it bit her continuously on her arm. It was very painful but she was used to it.
Every week she had to suffer like that. After the first snake was done she patted it and gently returned it to the glass. She got bitten by two more snakes before she closed her eyes.
“Are you okay?”
“I will be, get me a glass of water and tell Gina to book a reservation for me. I feel like eating steak,” she said.
“I will pass the news,” he said and left.
This certain ritual was not to be witnessed by anyone except those that were part of her Oracle. The young priest was a well renowned vet and he was selected because of that. His main job for the organization was to rear the vipers so that they can produce the venom which she needed in her life.
Her whole system was full of venom and if she scratches anyone by mistake too deep then that person will suffer a great deal unless she gives that person an antidote.
Although it was very painful to get bitten all the time, she knew that it was that same bite that changed her entire life. She died because of that bite and rose from the dead because of that same bite. The bites could no longer kill her but make her stronger every day.
The vet walked in with her glass of water which she took and gulped it down at once.
“I will take my leave now,” she said as she stood.
“I will walk you out.”
The vet walked her out to the reception where Gina was waiting for her.
“I bid you farewell, my lady,” he said and bowed.
This custom was something that really got on her nerves but there was nothing she could do about it.
“I bless you,” she said and left the building.
There were now in the car and she had her eyes closed. The venom was still entering her system and she needed some peace and quiet while the whole process commences.
“Haven, we are here,” Gina said.
She opened her eyes and smiled.
“You chose this hotel! You are very sneaky Gina,” she said.
“I couldn’t help it,” she replied.
The hotel belonged to her family unfortunately and she had forgotten the last time she came there. So she came out of the car and walked inside. Because she rarely attended the family company’s events, she doubted the employees even knew her.
“Isn’t that Haven White?” she heard employees whispering.
“They know me,” she hissed.
“Of course, you look alike like your sisters though you all have different tastes. It’s just a matter of adding one and one to get two,” Gina said.
“Did you take some alcohol by any chance?” Haven asked Gina.
“No, I didn’t. I don’t drink while working.”
“I noticed and it’s good. Let’s just have our steak and leave before my father finds out that I’m here,” she said and took the elevator for the restaurant.
