Chapter 5: Bazaar Wharr
The arrows shooted at us, giving off a dark substance that burned our eyes and nose. It was horrible to inhale. It burned our throats and made us cough non-stop.
"Don't run we're just searching for the werewolf who had been among us like they're one of us," I heard Bazaar loudly.
My mom and I hugged each other tightly as we were surrounded by complete darkness by the substances within the arrow. We couldn't see anything, not ourselves but feel each other and heard screams of everyone wanting to be free from the dark clouds around us.
I cried scared of what was happening.
Suddenly my eyes opened hearing a loud growl. A werewolf. My body shakes holding my mom scared.
"We found that sheep in wolf clothing!" I heard Bazar yell.
My fingers dug into my mom's skin but frightened as I heard the werewolf and protectors fighting. I screamed as it made a loud sound of being killed.
"Get rid of the wolfsbane," I heard Bazaar.
I then know what the dark smoke was. It was wolfbane the substance they discovered to kill and weaken a wolf. The wolfsbane was now causing me difficulty breathing. My eyes run water and my vision became blurry still I didn't close my eyes. My eyes remained half-opened until I saw the dark dust that surrounded us slowly disappeared. When it did everyone within the wall was lying on the floor still and scared. It was not easy seeing them since my vision was still a bit blurry, but there was one image I could see clearly, and that was a white large werewolf that appears to be a she-wolf lying on the ground with a knife in its heart, covered in bright red blood.
Bazaar walked over to it. I watched him as he sticks one of his fingers into her blood and wrote on her white fur as if it was a canvas, 'You can't fool us any more creatures.'
"Take it and threw it in the hood so her kind can see," he ordered his men.
The man did as they were told and dragged her body away. As they did I wondered who the werewolf was within her human form.
"Who was she?" I heard a whisper about as everyone got up from the floor wiping their face from the wolfbane that still burned and gave us an uncomfortable feeling.
"You see that everyone, Bazaar said as he turned to look at us. We had a werewolf all along pretending to be our friend while she passes news to her leader."
"I can't pick up who she is," I heard a lady as I helped my mom from the floor.
"You guys wouldn't care to know for all along she had been pretending to be a beggar to carry the news to her leader while we mourn the loss of our loves ones and worry about if they will kill us all one day!" Bazaar shouted angrily.
The men he had sent off with the werewolf soon returned.
"We've done as you had said," they told him.
Bazaar nodded and return to the stage accompanied by them. I could sense nothing but anger from him, strong anger and hatred for the werewolves.
"These werewolves who have been living among us stealing our information and plans so they can destroy everything we have and built will be weakened and killed, every single one of them, especially the blood eyes wolf who is known as the alpha of all werewolf!"Bazaar yelled with all his might in anger.
Suddenly everyone turns to the wall hearing a very loud growl.
"I see he has gotten the message," I heard Bazaar laugh.
My attention turned to him and I didn't know whether it was him I should fear instead of the werewolf or both. He had seemed to finally lose his mind repeatedly going against the werewolves.
"Don't worry everyone he's wise enough to not attack us now," said Bazaar as if the werewolf can hear him from outside of the wall.
Everyone stared at him appalled.
"Right alpha," he said softly leaving the stage with an evil smile.
I cried out as my eyes began to burn very badly. I had opened my eyes for too long when I shouldn't have that's why it was hurting me so much unlike the others.
"Carry her home and wash her face until the burning stop," I heard Bazaar tell my mom as I cover my eyes.
"Keep your eyes shut you don't want to have a swollen eye for the partner selection tomorrow don't you?" I felt him touch a strand of my red hair.
"Mr. Bazaar tomorrow nor any other day won't be good since the werewolves know that we know that they have been pretending to be us," I heard a female speak to Bazaar.
"Who are you to tell me what to do!" he shouted.
"While I and my men plan to destroy them all you normal citizens will continue to live your lives, for what those creatures want from us is for us all to live in fear, so they can multiply and consume this world made for us by our god and not for them to rule. Now you all go home," said Bazaar.
My mom took me home hurriedly. My eye burns so badly and even more keeping them shut. I slowly opened them in pain. I glimpse the dress Delphine was wearing. She was hugging her mom crying while they went home as well.
I began to cry. Life for us all was starting to get worse now that our leader was obsessed with killing all werewolves.
"Keep your eyes close," my mom told me.
I did.
When I got home. I went into the shower. My entire body was soaked when my mom threw water onto my face until I felt my eyes stop burning. She helped me to the shower. I went into dry clothes and lay down.
"Our leader would hurt us just to catch a werewolf," my mom said upset as she sat beside me.
I said nothing. I knew how she felt. It shows that Bazaar Wharr cares nothing about us instead of getting rid of the monsters. The werewolves had made him become heartless, for that was not how he was. He wasn't all perfect but none of us all didn't expect him to do something like this.
"The day the werewolves came into our lives, our lives just keep getting worse," my mom began to cry.
"It seems the only way we'll have peace from them unless we're dead."
"Mom, please don't say that," I sat up to comfort her.
She wiped away her tears and sat trying to stay strong for me.
"I'm sorry I've concerned you, I'm just a bit worried about our leader's cruel behavior, everything will be fine," my mom said as she turned to look at me with a smile.
Will it? I thought
I know she was just trying to stay strong for me as a mother would.
I nodded.
"Lay down and get some rest, you have to attend the partner selection tomorrow," my mom said with another smile that seemed forced.
As I did I watched her walk from my room and closed the door behind her.
I no longer hear her footsteps outside my room. I sneaked from my room and quietly walked to her room. Tears filled my eyes hearing my mom weeping in her room. Tears rolled down my cheeks as I returned to my room and lay on my bed.
Just like her, I hated the life we were living. I hated hiding behind these walls while those heartless werewolves take over our land and enjoy the beauty of the outside. Before the werewolf attack at a younger age, my mom and dad use to run around being free to go wherever they please and now she had to hide behind these walls as well. It was difficult for her, she used to tell me stories of swimming in the ponds and climbing mountains and now she can never do any of them. My mom was much more miserable than me. I wasn't used to the outside world like her.
After the horrible incident that happened today, I didn't sleep. How could I?
I got up early and went to feed the chicken. My morning routine was what helped me to clear my mind and to keep my mind from worrying, also any other work. As I fed the chickens water, I turned around to reach for the chicken feeding. I was frightened to see Turner. He stood still staring at me with his bright blue eyes.
I made a serious face.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"You have no right being on my property uninvited," I said upset.
He slowly motioned to me. His blue eyes that were like a good description of how my mom described the ocean continued to leer at me.
I made a step backward, now becoming freaked out by his strange behavior. He was approaching me like the werewolf in the hoods that wanted to kill me.
What I'm I thinking? I get myself together. Turner was on my land making me feel scared. I shouldn't be.
"What do you want?" I asked firmly showing him he no longer scared me.
He stood two feet away from me, too close.
I didn't move I returned his stare determined to show him he didn't scare me anymore.
"Are you here for an apology after I've turned down your help?" I asked.
"If it's so, I'm sorry for taking my problems on you and Delaphine," I told him.
He laughed.
I was startled by his reaction.
His blue eyes never leave me now seemed cold and filled with hatred as if I'd done something terrible to him.
"Red, please don't stay at the chicken pen for too long, remember you have to get ready for the partner's selection," I heard my mom.
"Yes, mother," I answered as I walked away from him.
Turner's strange behavior was giving me the creeps.
"You will say you will take me as your partner today?" I heard Turner's commanding voice behind me.
I stopped straight away and I turned to look at him to put him in his place. I've had enough of him wanting me as his own.
"That will never happen, so you can find your way home," I told him.
I turned around angrily to leave.
"I know your secret," he again stopped me.
What secret Turner could know about me I thought. If he thinks he can try to blackmail me with some stupid thing he thinks he may have against me, he must be sick thinking he can get me to be his partner.
The partner selection, if two couples like each other they can announce that they want to be together and then their names will be excluded from the partner selection since they've found their partner already.
"I know you were the one who saved the blood-eyed wolf," I heard Turner say.
I was so shocked by his words. My face went to his right away.
A smirk appeared on his face.
"I bet you won't continue to ignore me now," he said.
"How do you know?" I asked struck by his comment.
"Because I was secretly watching you when you save the disgusting blood eyes instead of pushing the piece of metal deeper into his chest," Turner retorted angrily.
"No," I said alarmed.
Turner got closer and stood in front of me.
"Speechless now aren't you?" he inquired me.
I stared at him appalled that he now knew my darkest secret. The secret I have been keeping for years.
"I wonder what our leader Bazaar would do to you if he finds out about what you did and that you are the one who allow the beast to be what he is today?" said Turner as he looked at me angrily.
"Also your mother."
"No, please don't tell anyone I was only 6 when I foolishly did it," I started to beg him.
His lips went to my right ear.
"It will be our secret if you agree to be my partner today," he whispered to me.
"Do we have an agreement?" he again whispered in my ears.
Tears rolled from my eyes as I nodded.
"Good girl," he said.
"Now go get ready and put on that beautiful red dress I love seeing you in," his cold blue eyes went to mine.
I wiped away my tears and walked away from him; hearing my mom again calling me.
