#Chapter 5 Reborn

Third Person POV

The moon goddess is what Olivia had always imagined she would be. Beautiful and loving. Since Olivia arrived in her world, the goddess has done nothing but profusely apologize for her treatment. She said she couldn’t watch her suffer any longer, and when the time came to choose for me to heal from my wounds or succumb to them, she chose the option that she thought Olivia would want most.

But she was wrong.

“It was my fault from the beginning,” Olivia breathes, looking below to see her brother far away in the distance. He leaves the beach after casting out the body, but the other figure on the beach stays. “I should never have trusted that monster.”

The moon goddess, dressed in her silk white robes and combed back cyan curls, watches the same wolf kneel on the beach below and speak to himself about my death. “He’s sorry now,” she mutters, waving off Herold’s confessions to the moon. “He should have treated you better.”

“I should have seen his true colors,” Olivia admits. As she looks to the goddess, her last wandering thoughts plague her mind now. “What if I were to try is all over again? No mistakes this time. No more living for another wolf. Could that make things right?”

She looked perplexed but as she spied the opposite end of the sea, something magical sparked in her beautiful eyes. “I can make that happen,” she mutters under her breath.

“Really? You can?”

“Yes, my child, but we must act quickly.”

Olivia glares down below, her body but an empty vessel. “I can’t go back as myself, though. Can I?”

“No, your worldly body has taken too much abuse. You won’t survive even if I try to send you back there,” she adds, her eyes back to the opposite end of the sea, watching the beach over there as an idea sparks through her mind. “Just relax, my child. I have to act quickly.”

Olivia opens her mouth to speak, to ask questions, but there was a flood of energy surrounding her at once. She is suffocating in spirit form, dizzy and spinning out of control. She have no other option but to ride it out, feeling like she had been shot out of a cannon.

Her spirit falls back into the world, hitting the sandy shore.

On the other side of the sea though, Herold could sense there was something familiar in the air. He could feel his mate, even after seeing her body so wounded and ruined, he felt like she had returned in some ways.

“If you’re out there, I’m sorry,” he muttered to himself, speaking to the restless sea. “I hope you find happiness… wherever you are now.”

Herold had once thought so highly of Olivia, and for a long time in their five years of marriage, he did love his mate. She was a dutiful Luna and she took care of the pack, visiting the orphans in the packhouse often and spending time with the older, retired gammas. He saw such love in her eyes and it was hard to accept what Alicia told him.

Herold was used to heartbreak, though. In some ways, he waited diligently for it to happen again. He was hurt in battle and told the hostage they freed from the rival rogues had saved him, had given her blood everyday for weeks to save his life.

He was broken at the idea of Alicia leaving him due to his wounds but when she returned, explaining that his mother had banished her, setting up a narrative that Olivia didn’t love him and just wanted his money to save her ailing brother, he thought he should have seen this coming. After all, he expected heartbreak.

Now, of course Olivia loved her mate, but he didn’t want to see that. He wanted to believe that he had been used, that he had been in a false matehood, but it wasn’t true. None of that mattered because the minute Alicia got her claws back into his mind, it was over.

He tipped his nose up to the air, knowing that the universe was at work tonight.

Whatever was going on, he knew it had to do with his mate.

He was right, too.

Olivia had returned to the world, her sprit crashing into the shores on the other side of the sea. While Herold was thinking of Olivia, she had other things on her mind. She knew death once before but she could feel it again, her new vessel tired and weak. There was a heavy pressure in her chest, a pounding, rhythmic pulsation of her heart that felt artificial.

Someone was giving her chest compressions and the pain grew sharp.

“Dammit, please come back to me,” The Alpha King muttered.

He may not have known it at the time, but the beautiful she-wolf he was working on may have looked like his Queen Luna, but she was far from it. The woman he loved was exhausted, living her life in a lie. She didn’t want to be Luna, she never wanted to be Queen, and when the opportunity arouse to finally be alone, she chose to end it all right there.

She jumped off the edge of the cliffs outside the palace walls.

The Alpha King had been searching for her through the morning and into the night, a few of his warriors finally spotting the gold haired love of his life on the shores below, cold and unconscious. It was too late to save her, until the moon goddess found another use for this scenario.

“Please, please,” the Alpha King sighed, pushing his palms against her chest until he noted the air filling back into her lungs. “Yes! Please, breathe!”

The Queen Luna coughed up the sea water, choking slightly. The Alpha King was so overcome with joy that when he finally saw her eyes dare to open, he had to do something with his overjoyed emotions.

He shot forward, kissing her tenderly, in front of his guards and his warriors, all who were so relieved to see her come to life in this moment. Everyone, except for the Queen Luna, Olivia’s soul so confused and lost in this moment.

One minute she was dead, facing her maker and wishing she had a second chance. Now her eyes fly open, her body soaking wet and her lips covered with another man’s. She didn’t know what else to do in this moment and her shock overcame her rationale.

She slapped the King Alpha, oblivious to his identity. “What the hell?”

He recoiled in shock, her face radiating pink. “What, my dear?”

Olivia scrunched her nose, unsure if she heard that correctly. She was confused at first, feeling like she would be sent to a new body of her own, but it was clear that wasn’t going to be the case here. She was sent to an existing body, one that this stranger seemed incredibly found of already. It didn’t stifle her curiosity though.

Her cold lips trembled. “Who are you?”
