Chapter 4
Marcus's POV:
“Chloe Tristan...”
My wolf's ear perked up as I muttered her name. I was hoping to see what she looked like, but Lima hadn't included a photo.
Damn stupid wolf, he did that on purpose.
I went through her profile.
Blood relations: Daughter to late Alpha Jon Tristan and Luna Brenda of the Tristan pack. Single child.
Pack: Refugee wolf, joined the Blackwood pack six months ago.
Status: Silver wolf, hasn't found her mate yet, keeps away from the crowd and is quite a wanderer.
That made me smile. She was a wanderer like myself, we could wander off together, hold hands while we watched the sunset in the hills and make love under the night skies.
I smiled as my thoughts turned naughty. My wolf kept muttering silly things in my head. Seeming like I wasn't the only one excited to meet her, I stared down at my trousers and groaned. My cock was building up a tent, twitching in agreement with my thoughts.
I shook the feeling away, wanting to suspend them until the moment we finally met. I returned my attention to the file in my hand.
Physical attributes: You'll have to find that out yourself!
“Fool,” I muttered, almost choking on a laugh. Lima knew how to rile me up, but he knew me too well to know that; I would prefer seeing her in person. I wasn't offended, it only triggered my curiosity further.
Age: ...
Before you find out her age, I want you to know something: Gamma Titus is very interested in her and has been seeing her for some months now...
My wolf growled in jealousy, my eyes glowing a bright brown as I felt like tearing someone to pieces. Seemed like I was missing out on something, my Beta and Gamma had some explaining to do...
I went back to reading.
...so it's okay if you don't want her, the Gamma will be thrilled to have her to himself.
I had a couple of noses to break, everyone should be reminded of their places!
Age: Eighteen years old.
The papers slipped out of my hold, a bitter feeling crawling into my stomach. Seriously? A teenager?
I wondered what the goddess was thinking, when she gave me a teenager as Luna. No one was allowed to question fate but at this point, it was quite questionable. I heaved a heavy sigh as I leaned back in my seat.
What if she panics when she finds out how old I am?
Would she like me back then?
Would she want me?
She was so young and inexperienced. She was one of the youngest wolves in the pack and I, one of the oldest. I hoped that wouldn't be a problem, I really hoped it wouldn't. There never could be any mistakes with destiny, we would all have to accept our fates.
I went back to the documents, going through some other irrelevant stuff Lima had scribbled down. There wasn't much given, it was information about where she stayed and all those she associated with.
I couldn't help the grunt that escaped my mouth when I saw Titus's relationship with her. He visited her every other day, apart from when she left the house for days without returning.
He had spunk to even like her in the first place and wanting her to be his mate. Hadn't he thought about what I would do to him if I were to find out? Luck was on his side that he hadn't marked her before it came to my knowledge, I would've ripped his head off of his neck!
My eyes shifted to the little grandfather clock that rested on the left corner of my desk. It was still five minutes past six pm and the ball was to start at nine thirty pm. I could no longer control my inquisitiveness and it was getting me frustrated. It also didn't help that the wolf kept giving me the push. He wanted me to go to her and I didn't want that. I wanted to wait until tonight to see her, see her body react to me and what she thought of my proposal.
She wouldn't reject me. Even if she wanted to, she couldn't. It was what fate had designed for us both, and we had no choice but to accept it!
On my part, I would have preferred a much older and experienced partner, but I'd have to accept her as she came...
Chloe's POV:
I paced the living room restlessly, waiting for Lily to return. Mark was long gone, off to perform whatever duties he had. Lily knew I wouldn't want to go shopping with her, as I had made it clear that I wanted to keep my distance from the other wolves. Aside from not being so much of a socialite, I also had an identity to conceal.
How was I to protect myself now the Alpha wanted me as his mate? To become Luna, meant to tell everyone in the pack what I was, and that particular information... I wasn't ready to let go of. All I had to do was: meet Alpha Marcus and if I managed not to get myself intimidated, I'd tell him I wasn't interested in his offer. He could find some other she-wolf who was interested and make her Luna.
I could even lie about having a mate, right?
Right?
My wolf shook her head at me, clearly not in agreement with my decision. I wasn't going to let her over ride my thinking and land us all in trouble.
Never!
I sensed Lily approaching and dashed towards the door. I flung the door open to meet Lily with a palm up. She silenced me from asking whatever I had wanted to. My eyes flickered to her other hand which carried four little shopping bags.
“I know you wanna bombard me with questions. Just so you know, I have no answers for you.” She shoved me aside and walked into the house.
I spun around, following hot on her trails. “What does he look like?”
“I told you not to ask me anything!”
“But seriously, what does he look like?” I pressed further, pressuring her to give in.
She got into my room, dropped the bags on the bed and turned to face me. She had a sly smile gracing her lips as she took my hand and led me to the couch. “He is extremely handsome! You know the 'Greek gods' kind of handsome?”
I nodded, my face getting flushed. I could feel the heat creep up my neck and into my cheeks.
“Oh gods, do I see someone blushing?” Lily mocked, giggling at my flushed state. “I know you weren't expecting that reply from me but girl, he is to die for!”
“I’ve heard you, Beta queen. I wonder how Mark would feel if he heard you right now?”
“I can't help it,” she fanned her face dramatically. “If my mate hadn't found me, I definitely would have gone for him.”
I rolled my eyes at her, “thank you so much for your encouragement.”
“You are most welcome!”
We stayed in silence. She got up and walked over to where the bags sat on the bed, pulling out dresses and laying them out on the bed. Next, she fetched out some shoes and jewelry from the other bags. She had more than enough dresses and diamonds for us to pick from, I also had a couple of dresses she'd gifted me. Why waste so much money for just a ball?
“Lily?”
“Hmm...”
“Don’t you think you went overboard with the whole shopping spree?”
She was silent for a while, but answered: “no.”
“No what?”
She sighed, obviously getting fed up with my endless questions. “I don't think I went overboard. Now can you shut up and let me concentrate?”
I fell silent, a pout unknowingly snuck it's way to my lips. I was worried and restless, no one would talk to me and not even my best friend wanted to listen to my whining. No one seemed to want to be on my side.
Think Chloe, think!
I had to convince Lily that it was a bad idea, that would be the only way to persuade Mark and he in turn, would convince the Alpha...
“Lily, I want to ask you a question.” She nodded. After contemplating it, I finally asked: “Team Alpha or team Gamma?”
“Huh?” Lily questioned, not sparing me a glance.
“I mean...” I hesitated, wanting to choose my words cautiously. Damn Lily and her quick temper, she scared me at times like this. “If I decided to become Gamma queen, would you support my decision?”
Silence.
That was all she gifted me with. I gulped, starting to regret why I'd asked that in the first place, I couldn't afford her getting pissed at me. I couldn't see her face, but I could read her anger radiating off of her.
“Go have a shower,” her authoritative voice boomed, interjecting with my thoughts. “We need to get you ready before myself and we have less than three hours to get ready.”
I started to argue, “I don't wanna—”
“—keep the Alpha waiting,” she hissed with finality. She shot me a warning glare, then walked out of my room.
That was such a huge success, wasn't it?
