Chapter 3

The steps walk closer and at the point where it's supposed to be at the door of my room, I see no one nor hear the steps again. Was it a dream? No! I can't believe it. I heard the frightening steps with my very ears clearly, how come I can't see anyone again. This must be real. Uneasiness builds up in me. I quickly shut down my system, closing it. "Who's there?" With courage, I took daring steps out of my room but I was stopped right in my tracks.

"Hold your peace!" The very nature of command and authority was embedded in this statement. I looked at the man in front of me, fear grips me. He towers over me almost reaching the ceiling. I think his height must be going to nine feet, the tallest I've ever seen or even heard of in my life. Then coming to the size of his body, he's so muscular, more than most bodybuilders, the veins in his arms almost breaking off his skin. He's wearing a fitting black T-shirt. I scan him from head to toe, my eyes widen in amazement. Coming to his face, his beauty is not of this world. His blue eyes are very bright and piercing.

His identity and intention is what I can't comprehend. "Who are you?" I formed in my mind to ask him but before I could, he stretches out his left palms, on top of it lies a red envelope. Everything about this man looks so unusual, his appearance and the way he does things. No one had dared to give me anything with the left hand before, it signifies ill luck as I've come to realize except the person is left handed.

When I set eyes on him, he didn't seem to be holding anything, where did the red envelope come from? This' my first time seeing a red envelope. I wonder what this means. I slowly raised my eyes from his hand to his face, his eyes were now dark and cold, his gaze looked like the gaze of death. Terror seized me, my legs start to shake beneath me. "Take!" He said impatiently. I frighteningly stretch out my hands and take the envelope which seems like a letter from him. "Read it!"

It's not only him telling me to do this, I'm so eager to know what's inside or what's written in here but fear as well sets in, I don't intend to get into another suspense. Let me open it and read it. I tore the parcel carefully, then opened it. I lifted up my head to see the man that gave me this letter but he was gone. Adrenaline rose to it's peak, it's overwhelmingly rioting in me, every cell in my body arches. Is he a ghost? I recalled that I'd heard him walking towards my room and at the point of him entering, I didn't hear anything again but all of a sudden as I was about to leave my room, he stood in front of me blocking the passage.

Remember that the sacrifice to appease me for your disobedience in conducting the annual full moon festival this year will cost you a lot. To appease me, you need to sacrifice one member of your family and you need to do that as soon as possible to avoid undesirable consequences!

The chosen member would be transformed into a wolfless shifter. He/She would not be liable to meet a fated mate in life. In the case of a male, he would be mateless for life but in the case of a female, she would be paired to Alpha Romeo, the ultima wolf for his redemption but she can either accept or decline.

To Alpha Elliot

From

Asher, Messenger to Lucita,

the moon goddess.

I shake my head in horror, what does this mean? Uurgh! The moon goddess needs a sacrifice? I knew that my father had failed to perform the annual full moon festival this year because he was busy trying to complete our castle. I never knew there would be an implication like this.

The full moon festival is conducted in the third month of the year, that's March every year. It lasts for weeks, most of the time between three weeks and a month. During this time, many activities are carried out, traditional dances, historical displays of cultural artifacts, wrestling games and many other activities. It's a ceremony where lots of money is spent in organizing and maintaining it but it's a necessity. I got disappointed when my dad told us and the entire pack that the festival was not gonna hold this year. It was an occasion where you got to meet different people, even people from other packs. The great expectations I had for the event faded suddenly away.

I kept staring into the letter, my eyes fixed rigidly like my eyeballs would fall off any moment. So this man was not an ordinary person, he wasn't a shifter like us but the messenger of the moon goddess. This case must really be serious before the moon goddess sent him to bring this message. Did my father know about this already? What's Zarina intending to tell me in the evening, why was our entire castle empty, were they notified that Asher was coming and so they fled off the house leaving only me to bear the fate?

This continued to disturb me for several hours. I laid on my bed, my face pointed towards the ceiling, I was enfolded in thoughts. It was now 6 PM, my siblings strolled into the house first, then my dad came in with Zarina. I can hear their steps and voices from outside. I hurriedly sprang from my bed, I needed to hand this letter over to him.

I met my dad downstairs at the parlor, the look on everyone's eyes had suspicion and astonishment. "What's going on, why is everyone looking at me this way?" My dad winked at my siblings and they departed leaving only me, my dad and Zarina. "This' for you dad, a certain man came and delivered this to me."

"Have you read it?" My dad seemed panicky, I suspected his reaction. There's something hidden behind all these, he wouldn't act panicky without having a knowledge of this. Why is he asking if I read it?

"The man asked me to read it." I replied in a firm tone, his body shifted in shock, my eyes turned to Zarina but she quickly withdrew her gaze, she looked elsewhere. This made me question my doubt the more, it could be somewhat true that secrets are cooking up for us or against us.

"Hey Graciella, come out. It's time for our discussion." Zarina came forth into my room and announced. I stood up slowly, I'd been weakened by so many thoughts of what went on today. It's now dark, late in the evening. I switch on the screen of my phone, it's 8 PM. Zarina started moving out of my room, I quickly hastened my step to follow her, like a lamb led to the slaughter. My thoughts rested on the suspense of what Zarina was gonna discuss with me. Something told me it's about Asher and today's event but I don't know what it will exactly be about.
