Meeting The Elders
Evelyn heard the faint murmur of people talking inside as she walked towards the room. To say she was nervous would be an understatement. Evelyn was shaking as she took each step. The people inside that room are the ones who are going to decide her destiny.
"You can go in, Luna." The omega maid said as she opened the huge wooden door. Evelyn gulped as the voices were now clear and understandable but they seemed to be talking about something that Evelyn couldn't quite understand.
She thanked the maid before taking a deep breath and stepping into the room. The voices died down as soon as she entered the room.
Evelyn looked to her left to see that everyone in the room was staring at her. The omega held her breath not knowing what to do as there was an awkward silence in the room.
There were nine people in the room including her mate. They all sat on a big leather couch that was arranged in a rectangular shape.
Evelyn looked at her mate who was sitting in a separate chair. He looked ethereal as usual, wearing black jeans and a white shirt with a few buttons undone as he sat there and stared at the omega uninterested.
Evelyn didn't know what to do. Her mate looked like he's not going to introduce her so the omega mustered up her courage to speak up.
"H-Hello," Evelyn stuttered out and delivered a small wave to the people watching.
"Oh my god, Keiran! Is she your mate? She's so beautiful!" A lady squealed in excitement. Evelyn was taken aback by the reaction so she instinctively took a step back as the lady walked towards her.
She looked at her mate who was rubbing his forehead in annoyance.
"What's your name, dear? Keiran didn't tell us anything about you. I'm sorry we couldn't meet you when you came here. We were away for some business purposes." The woman kept talking as she came and pulled Evelyn into a tight hug.
Evelyn just stood there like a statue. Everything felt so overwhelming to her. The woman had a comforting smell of sandals and it calmed Evelyn's nervous mind. She looked up at the smiling lady and realized that she still hadn't answered her question.
"I'm E-Evelyn," She said, making the woman smile wider.
"That's a nice name. I'm Scarlett, Keiran's mother." She said, side hugging the omega as she talked. Evelyn was surprised. Scarlett looked very young and beautiful. No one could tell that she had a son.
Scarlett took Evelyn towards the others. "This is William, Keiran's father, and the former Alpha." She introduced the alpha sitting on the couch.
He stood up and smiled at the Omega. "Nice to meet you, Evelyn. I still can't believe how my hot-headed son got paired with a delicate girl like you. The moon goddess must be really enjoying this." He joked to which Keiran rolled his eyes. Scarlett kissed her mate's cheek before moving on to introduce others.
"Come here, honey." A woman with gray hair called Evelyn to sit with them. "Sit with us and tell us about you," She said as she signaled her to come closer. Evelyn blushed from all the attention she's getting. She felt overwhelmed.
Scarlett made her sit in the middle of everyone as they asked a train of questions about her and her family. Evelyn shyly replied to Everything. She told them about her father and tried not to cry this time but her watery eyes were enough for everyone to know that it was a touchy topic.
Keiran's granddad was quiet but occasionally smiled at the jokes said by his mate and son. The Beta family was the most talkative among the group. They were talking about how they all met their mates.
Evelyn felt a warm feeling in her heart. It was the first time she felt at home.
Keiran gritted his teeth watching everyone interact with the omega. This wasn't the reaction he expected. It irked him knowing that none of them were worried about an omega being the next Luna.
"You guys need to stop pampering her and talk about the important matter at hand," He said, irritated that no one was talking about it.
"What?" Scarlett quirked an eyebrow at her son.
Keiran sighed, rubbing his face. "I'm talking about—" He couldn't finish his words because someone suddenly burst in through the door.
Everyone turned to the door alarmed to see a panting girl.
The girl was beautiful and tall. She had glowing chocolate skin and wore a pair of jeans and a turtleneck sweater which complimented her curves. Her long raven hair reached up to her hips as she adjusted it. The girl was an alpha, her elegance and physique were enough to prove that.
"Oh sorry, am I late?" She asked, her voice sounding breathy as she spoke.
No one spoke but just stared at her in surprise and confusion. Keiran broke the awkwardness by walking towards the girl and hugging her.
Evelyn watched the interaction with a heavy heart. Her mate was smiling and hugging someone else right in front of her.
Scarlett cleared her throat. "Naomi dear, don't take it wrong but why are you here?" She asked the girl who was still clinging to Keiran's hand.
The girl, Naomi, looked at her like a deer caught in headlights. She opened her mouth to say something but Keiran cut her off.
"I invited her," He said, hugging the girl closer.
Scarlett frowned. "Didn't you break up with her? "
"No," Keiran said, his voice not even wavering a little bit. "—and I'm not going to," Evelyn looked down, her chest burning as her mate admitted that the girl is still his girlfriend.
"What are you saying Keiran?" William—Keiran's father—stood up, his voice deep and serious as he questioned his son.
"I'm saying that I want Naomi to be my Luna," Keiran replied firmly.
Evelyn shut her eyes tight and hugged herself. She knew this would happen, she was prepared but it still hurts.
Scarlett's jaw dropped hearing her son's words. "Keiran, what nonsense are you saying?" She looked like she was angry and confused at the same time.
"Son, you shouldn't do or say these kinds of things in front of your mate. You have to respect her." Keiran's grandfather said calmly but his words were stern.
The former Beta's mate, who Evelyn knew as Rose, hugged the omega to comfort her.
"Keiran, your mate is chosen by the moon goddess to be the Luna of this Pack. You can't just select someone else for that." Richard, the former Beta, scolded the young alpha.
"You all don't understand! She's an omega, she's weak! I can't risk the safety of my Pack just because of her!" Keiran spat out angrily.
"Are you kidding?! Do you know what rejecting your mate can do to you both?" Scarlett shouted, losing her calm.
"I know, mom. I'm not rejecting her as a mate but my Luna." Keiran explained. "She can stay here as my mate but not my Luna. I just don't want any other Pack to know that she's my mate."
"Keiran, this is not a joke. Did you think about what your mate is feeling right now? You're acting selfish, this is not how we raised you." William stepped forward.
"I'm not acting selfish, dad. I'm doing this for the Pack. Our Pack never had an omega as Luna before, we always had powerful leaders—"
"And?" William interrupted his son. "We also never had an Alpha who made another person his Luna when his mate was right beside him,"
Evelyn silently listened to everyone arguing around her. She felt tired and heartbroken. The smell of anger in the room was making her dizzy.
"Dad, this is the only—"
"Enough is enough. None of us agree with Naomi being the Luna. Instead, Evelyn will become the Luna in the next full moon!" William said in his Alpha voice making Keiran grit his teeth.
Evelyn's legs trembled because of the Alpha pheromones in the room. Her nails dug into her palm as she repeatedly blinked away the tears to clear her vision.
"We are on William's side, Keiran. What you're doing is wrong. You're not only hurting your mate but also defying the wish of the moon goddess." The older beta spoke up.
Keiran closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His fist clenched as the anger and frustration were still visible on his face. "OK fine! You all care more about this weak omega than the safety of this Pack." He scoffed. "But the next full moon is unacceptable. It's only three days away! Why so early? "
"It's not good to keep you both away for a long time. It will cause many mental and physical problems. So it's best if it's done by the next full moon." Scarlett said to her son who was annoyed because things weren't going as he planned.
Keiran looked like he would explode the next minute. He took a deep breath, "You're all going to regret this," He spat out before storming out of the room. His girlfriend, Naomi, awkwardly looked at everyone before following him out.
Evelyn felt her knees go weak but luckily Scarlett caught her and made her sit on the couch.
"I'm so sorry, you had to go through all this dear. I don't know what happened to Keiran but I have faith that he'll change once you are together." Scarlett told the trembling omega who was on the verge of breaking down.
Evelyn didn't dare to hope anymore.
