DAISY

It was sunset when we drove through a huge, iron black gate. My eyes were glued on the houses that were lined up in the area. They were magnificent to a fault, knocking the breath off me.

“Ever seen a place this beautiful?“ Suzy nudged me teasingly.

“Never. This place is-Wow!“ I couldn't find the words to describe it with. It was beyond words. All I could do was stare.

“This is a private resort, 'Lawrenceville'. Owned by Mr. Lawrence, Master's human friend,“

“The same man who owns the highschool?“

“Yeah, that's him. He practically runs this region. And he's the only human that knows about our real identity,“

“He knows we're werewolves?!“ I couldn't help the shock.

“Yup, Master told him about it. I don't know the details but years back, he'd formed some sort of alliance with Mr. Lawrence. 'Keep-my-secret-to-the-grave' kinda thing. You could say Master trusted him enough to disclose our existence to him,“

That was one helluva shocker, I must say. In my seventeen years of existence, I've never heard of our existence being disclosed to a human. This was my first.

“How do you know all these, Suzy? We're both Omegas, with zero knowledge of the significant matters of the pack. How did you get a whiff of this?“

“It isn't just a whiff. I was briefed, warned. If you wanna exist peaceably amongst humans, you gotta know your limits. Don't worry, you'll be briefed,“

“By whom?“ the question left me before I realized it did. I had to be sure it wasn't the 'four horsemen'. I'd rather die.

“By me,“ Suzy replied, then chuckled, “You should see the look on your face. Honestly girl, Master Logan would be your undoing, “

“Tell me about it,“ I mumbled, hating how nervous I was becoming again. No doubts we were getting closer to our destination. Closer to Master Logan. Closer to my death.

“Hey, cheer up. You'll be fine,“

“I hope so.“ A silence and I asked, “So who told you all these?“

“You don't wanna know. Who, where and how, these are details you sure as hell don't wanna know, trust me.“

Her words came out as casual as ever but I caught on every bit of emotions it hinted. The fear, the pains. Mostly, the fear.

Suzy Earl was the opposite of me in every damn way. Despite the fact that we were agemates -shared the same birthday.

In her wolf form, she was thrice larger than mine. In her human form, she wore a silver, pixie cut, which perfectly complimented her heart-shaped face. Fancied male clothing and goth make-up. Extremely introverted. Definitely not your typical tomboy. Got zero belief in mates, and her utmost wish is never to have one. Weird.

She was the mother figure I had at the moment. In a world where Omegas are embedded in fear, Suzy was sure to conceal hers. Sometimes, I wondered if she got scared at all. She was an anchor. All out to fix anyone who needed fixing, even at her own detriment. She was a rare soul. One of a kind.

I gave her hand a warm squeeze and I mentally adjusted my voice to match my optimistic words, “We'll be fine,“

The car slowed, and I watched another gate open and we drove in. From here on, I was dumbstruck. We alighted and I followed Suzy so closely but didn't miss to stare at every inch of the gigantic buildings.

She led us to a cottage with hedgerows and a lawn. It was a simple structure but oddly fancied. We got inside and I was led up the stairs and to a room.

“This will be our room,“ Suzy announced, hurling her flannel bag on a bed. The medium-sized room had two beds, a wardrobe, a small chandelier and–

“A balcony!“ I hurried through the door and swirled excitedly on the balcony. The few times I visited the castle in Silver pack, I always made sure to spend as much time as I could on the balcony. It stood above the tulips and roses in the royal garden. It was quite a sight watching the flowers in autumn and spring.

“Easy, girl. You don't wanna do that here. You see that mansion over there?“ Suzy gestured with her head, “Guess who lives in it?“

My excitement vanished and I crawled back to the room, slumping on the other bed.

“I'm sorry, I didn't mean to be such a killjoy. But you gotta tread softly here. And a whole lot of places are off limits,“

“Including the balcony?“

“Especially the balcony. Master Logan stares out of that window –she pointed– “every evening. So except you wanna be seen regularly by him, it's best to stay indoors,“ Suzy began unpacking her bags.

“Did you switch rooms?“ I asked, realizing the wardrobe she'd opened was empty. Clearly, she's been here for three years, so it wasn't logical for the wardrobe to be empty.

“Yup. Since you were gonna be staying with me, I had to get a bigger room,“

“Who's in charge here?“

“Delta Faggot and his wife, Lily. I must warn you, she's got quite the temper,“

“Ugh, I'm already starting to hate my stay here,“ My forlorn look was clouded with a smile as she came over to help unpack my clothes. “Thank you, Suzy.“

“Get some rest. You've got a big day tomorrow.“

“I don't wanna sound ungrateful, but I don't get any thrills from being here. I think I'm gonna hate my stay here,“

“No, you won't,“

“Is there a brighter side to staying here?“

“Well…“ She came to sit beside me, “You get to see the world from a clearer perspective. Moreso, you get a taste of sophistication. And again, don't worry about the 'four horsemen', you'll rarely see them here,“

“Really?!“

“Yeah. Though we share the same gate, we're worlds apart. We don't even get to go into their mansion. We carry out our duties here and Delta Faggot attends to them directly.“

I released a pent-up breath I had no idea of. This was more than enough to calm my horses.

We had a menial dinner and laid in our different beds, ready to sleep off.

“Suzy?“

“Hmm?“ Her voice held so much sleep. Gripped by guilt for being such a nuisance, I fell silent. “Say what you wanna say, Daisy.“

“It's just-“ I hesitated, biting my lower lips, “-do you have any idea what their special abilities are yet?“

“No. Those abilities are rumored to be very special and highly classified. Not something insignificant Omegas like us would know.“ She glanced my way with a 'be-careful' look.

“I'm sorry, I was just curious. Ever since we were kids, we've heard tales of the abilities the moon goddess endowed them with. But we've got no idea what those abilities are. I'm just curious,“

“That curiosity might lead you straight to their arms, and I'm sure you don't want that. The 'four horsemen' ain't our business. Never forget that.“

I nodded frantically.

“Get some rest.“

Minutes later, her snoring sound filled the room. My eyes shone brighter with each fleeting second. Thoughts about starting high school tomorrow shooed-off every bit of sleep I was to get.

The sudden flurry movement got me all ecstatic.

“Lily?“

“Daisy,“ her voice was lower than usual. Lily was my wolf. We barely spoke as she was mostly asleep due to her weak physique. She remains the only reason I hoped to get a mate on my 18th birthday which was months away. Maybe a mate bond would strengthen Lily, those were my thoughts and prayers.

“Lily, I'm so glad you woke up. I needed a companion. Can't seem to fall asleep,“

“Did we move? What's with the new aura?“

“Yeah, we moved. New Orleans, I came to study and assist the 'four horsemen',“

“Oh boy,“ Lily whimpered, snuggling up at the back of my mind. She had all the reasons to be scared. In most pursuit by the 'four horsemen', I had to take my wolf form to get away faster from them. She, for one, feels more of the agonizing pains inflicted by them.

“Suzy says we'll be fine. I'm trying to bring myself into believing it,“ When I waited and got no replies, I knew she'd fallen asleep again. Closing my eyes, I dreaded the nightmares that lurked.

There he was, Alpha Logan, waiting, crouching, ready to pounce on me.
