DAISY
The shrilling sound of the bell brought the class to an end and the teacher left.
It was a torture, having to go through the classes with my heart in my mouth. I was literally shaking ever since Suzy got the paper from Logan.
She seemed more composed than I was but beneath her tough facade, I could hear her screaming for help.
We barely got to our feet when she gasped, grabbing my hand in a jerk.
“What's wrong?" I watched her carefully, and my eyes widened at the tears that slid down.
“Master Logan just mindlinked me. He wants me to meet him on the rooftop.“
I stilled. So many things were mind boggling between Logan and I ever since our toddler days. One of those things is the fact that he never mindlinks me. Everyone else could. Logan never has.
Maybe I'm not deserving of it, were my thoughts and the only closure I gave it. Still, it bothered me sometimes.
“What do I do, Daisy? I think he's gonna throw me down the rooftop,“ Suzy whimpered.
Seeing her so broken agitated me even more. I wasn't sure what to say to comfort her so I just offered to go with her.
We were already trembling in fright from getting a whiff of them downstairs. The rooftop seemed empty but we smelled their scents and we quickly bowed in panic.
Their footsteps grew louder and closer till a loud stump on Suzy's back had her shrieking. I trembled in tears, shutting my eyes and waiting for the painful impact of my own dose of torture.
What I got instead had me shuddering –the warm feel of his fingers, trailing my chin and my lower lips. Fluttering my eyes open, I gasped as I'd met his oceanic blue eyes. I quickly shut my eyes. Just how many shades does his eyes take in a day?
“Open your eyes.“ His voice was low, menacingly low.
I opened them again and his eyes were right there, staring intently into mine.
His touch was unnerving enough, I didn't have to be subjected to meeting his blazing eyes.
His fingers roughly clutched my chin and tilted my head sideways. “There, look at that,“
A loud gasp escaped me at the sight of Suzy, standing at the edge of the rooftop. I hurried to my feet but got pulled down by my hair. I shrieked.
“One wrong move and Jake is gonna hurl her down.“ Logan warned. Jake chuckled at that, swinging his right leg dramatically in the air.
“Please, Master. Let her go. I'll do whatever you want.“ My tears were ceaseless. The pain sure hits differently when Suzy had to suffer in my stead.
“Hey, tone it down. You're gonna bring all the students up here with your cries,“ Drake chirped in, coming to stand beside Logan.
Logan tightened his hold in my hair and I tried so fucking hard to muffle my shriek. “This isn't about you, dimwit. It's about her. She shouldn't have meddled. She should have known to stay the fuck out of my business,“
“She's sorry…“ I whimpered, shutting my eyes to the pains his tight grip was giving me.
“Is she? I don't know. I don't care. I just wanna be sure she won't pull such a sick stunt next time.“
“She won't, she sure won't. I promise,“
“Haven't you heard? The promise of an Omega is just as they are - insignificant and meaningless.“ Charles butt in. He always knew how to hit where it hurts with his laconic style.
“Please…“
“Needless to say, your promises mean nothing. But, I'll be willing to get your oath instead. A blood oath.“
What? My eyes were forced open and I held his gaze in shock. A blood oath?!
Silver pack would only use this term on matters that had to do with life and death. Serious bargains between different packs and clans. Why would I be signing a blood oath over something so…
“Insignificant?“ Logan completed my thoughts. My eyes widened. “I don't know if you've realized but your friend got her life hanging on a thread. If that ain't significant to you, I don't know what is.“
I gulped. Nodding frantically, I said, “Okay master, I'll sign the oath.“
“That's more like it,“ He grinned and placed a paper in front of me. “Can you read?“
“Ye-yes,“
“You don't have to. I'll brief you.“ Drake said. “It's simple. You tell your girl to stay away from whatever agony is raining on you. She gets involved, she dies and her blood will be on you,“
“What?“
“That's not all. Here in Lawrence high, we are expected to treat softly. We're werewolves. They can't find out about us,“
Somehow, I wondered how this warning was for me. They were the ones who changes shades of eyes in the presence of humans, not me.
“But...Master, your eyes could tell you off,“ I dared to say. Had to say it. If he gets exposed, we all go down.
“No one would dare question me about the numerous shades my eyes take. They wouldn't, unless they wanna meet the same fate as your friend,“
I nodded. “Okay,“
“And lastly, you move into the mansion today.“
“What?!“ This was beyond shocking. It was tear-jerking news and it got my heart leaping out of my chest. “Why?“
“Because the mansion is boring without our favorite play-thing close to us. With you around, we're sure to have loads of fun. Question answered?“ Drake had a smirk that was both unnerving, threatening and annoying.
I hesitated, but the sharp pain in my head had me nodding frantically. “Yes. Yes, I accept,“
“Good, now sign,“ Logan seethed. In a flash, he slitted my thumb and the blood was used on the sign column.
My whimpering increased and turned into a shriek when I got a hard kick to my stomach.
“See you at home, Omega. It'll be worth your time, your pains and your tears. I promise,“ Logan winked and began heading downstairs. The guys trailed beside him.
With them gone, I was left to deal with my aching stomach. Just then, Suzy pulled me into a tight hug, crying her eyes out.
“I'm sorry I got you into my mess, Suzy. If you hadn't stood up for me, you wouldn't have been here,“
“It's okay, Daisy. I'd be willing to go through any length just for you. But what happens now that you'll be staying with them? What would become of you?“
Our cries increased and went on for minutes. When we cooled off, Suzy cupped my face with a sad smile, “I just thought of something,“
“What is it?“
“I work in a coffee shop after school. I'll let them know you're interested in working there too. That way, we can get to spend some time together there,“
My face beamed. “Thank you, Suzy. Again, I'm sorry. But I think this is all for the best. I mean, with just me against them, I'll learn to bear my pains without waiting for you to jump in and make the save,“
“Hang in there, Daisy. They wouldn't hurt you forever. Soon, they'll find their mates and take on responsibilities that wouldn't give them the time to bully you,“
“I hope so.“
We headed down and back to our classes. But I was in a daze. It was going to be months before the mate-dance under the full moon which was the only chance they would find their mates.
I'll be staying with them in a few hours. Clearly, my death was closer than my redemption. That reality had me in a twist.
