CHAPTER 6

My cabin was peaceful. Elijah was happy with herself. On the other hand, because I couldn't pull my palm away from her, I was forced to lie down next to her.

Eli, you appear to be an unexpected meteor that has entered my life. If I didn't hold back, everything would change in an instant. If I take one wrong step, I will break my promise to my father. I want to sleep so I don't notice the passage of time. I want to be numb so I don't remember you're right next to me, within reach, as delectable to own as you are to behold. I was surprised.

But it's a waste of time; I'd like to use this opportunity to stare at you, to imprint your shape in my mind. I don't want to squander this opportunity to freely hug you. And, in a heartfelt whisper, one of my arms spontaneously twisted around Elijah's waist.

Eli, it's wonderful to feel your warm body. Harris sighs and closes his eyes. I want to bask in the glory of that audacity. Harris stayed in that position for a while. He hugged Eli while holding the woman's pillow in one of his hands. Harris sighed and opened his eyes after a while. It's strange. He will lose his morals forever if he does not rebuke himself.

But, to Harris' surprise, Eli stared at him.

"I'm sorry, E-Eli; I'm not taking advantage of your inebriation and—"

"Sshh!"

Elijah's finger brushed against its lips.

"I know you're a gentleman, but I know how you're feeling right now," she said, a mischievous smile on her red lips. Because of the alcohol she drank, her brain causes her to misbehave.

"Eli...," Harris wanted to flee from her. Knowing this, she felt something that represented how she felt. There was almost no space between them.

"And I understand what you're saying, Harris."

She got a little closer to him. It was still the result of her inebriation.

"And I won't be upset if you cross the line between restraint and temptation."

"I don't know, Eli—"

"Kiss me, Harris," She say.

"Huh?"

"Kiss me...," she says.

After saying that, she moved her hand across their faces, allowing their lips to meet.

How Eli had done that, she who had no real experience in the matter, she who had never been in a relationship with a man, he wanted to blame for drinking alcohol again or to believe she didn't want to get away from this man.

And when its restraint was finally broken, it crossed the line of temptation and gave in to the urge.

They exchanged a long kiss. It's tender, sweet, and rough, but Elijah discovered only one of Harris's fickle methods of kissing her.

It was as sweet as the kiss she had just heard about from friends, which had been shared by a man and a woman in love.

Elijah was taken aback a little.

Loving? Are he and Harris in a relationship?

Even though Elijah received no response, her hesitation faded quickly. The sweetness and joy caused by their lips fusing prevailed once more. Another experience for her was being overcome by overwhelming feelings.

Even though she lacked skill, her lips spontaneously learned the correct movement. Harris's lips moved, and she followed them. She returned the exploration of her tiny tongue within his mouth.

"Hah!"

Harris abruptly let go of her embrace and sat up. Elijah happened to be lying down and staring at him.

"Harris?"

She reached out and grabbed his shoulder.

"This is bull shit, Eli!" Harris exclaimed as he strolled across the cabin.

"Why?" he wondered, already sitting down.

"You're an enticement, Eli."

His voice was weak, but thunder appeared to be pleading with him.

"Harris?"

"I'm sorry, Eli, but it's not right; I shouldn't be..."

"To my teasing?" Her voice was already tinged with pain.

"Of course not! I know you're a sensible woman; it's just—"

"It's just that I've been a little too aggressive, haven't I?"

Harris sighed a few times. He then took a seat next to her.

"Listen to me, Eli."

She snatched her palm.

"There's nothing wrong with becoming aggressive; I know it's just the effect of alcohol, but what's wrong in this situation is on my side."

"What exactly do you mean?"

"Why then?" she asked, her voice irritated.

It was an embarrassment, and even though she didn't admit it to herself, she still wanted to feel his kiss.

"Just because I'm tempted by you doesn't mean I can't hold you accountable; my parents raised me with good reasons and principles in life, but I can't because I don't have any."

"Why?" a sudden surge of nervousness in her heart.

"Because I'm about to get married."

No! Elijah's brain was screaming, but her eyes were frozen in place.

Shit! Where is she? Harris's face was aborted, but he continued to look around. Hoping to catch he could catch a glimpse of Eli's hair at the ends.  But it turned out that almost everyone on the ship recognized a woman he had recently flirted with in his cabin. Eli had earlier come out of his cabin crying after telling her that he was getting married. He didn't care what he called it. Even as Harris nodded at the caller and knocker, Elijah locked herself in her cabin and refused to open the door.

Eli, please don't do this to me. I can't even hold you accountable, but I can't stay silent about the fact that you'll be ruined here in the city. But there was no Eli there to greet him.

What is she doing? She doesn't have even five dollars in her pocket. Harris's heart was heavy with concern.

Until then, the ship's last passenger was standing down, and Harris was still standing across the stairs.

No! He appears to be in pain because he just combed his hair with his fingers.

From his hiding place, Elijah continued to stare at Harris, who stood like a fool guarding the bottom of the ship's stairs. Elijah immediately disembarked when the ship arrived at the pier, so she followed him. Though she was unsure of her decision, she forced herself not to approach and confront Harris.

Perhaps I can live in the city without him. Whatever, I'll just look for work. She strokes her earrings.

She remembered the diamond earring her father had given her on her 18th birthday as she cried earlier in her cabin. Although it will be costly, it can be pawned at a pawnshop and used to begin her life in the city. She made her decision right away. She was going to avoid Harris at all costs. Its assistance will no longer be accepted to end their relationship.

She's in love with him, she realized after no second pain when she heard on his lips that he was getting married. As long as she loves Harris, it's love at first sight. There is no solid proof that love is the reason she is still so hurt, but that is love for her. Elijah averted her gaze with tears in her eyes, hoping Harris would fade from her sight.

Whatever it is, I can forget too. She eventually moved away from that location with that hope in mind.
