A damsel in distress

It's a drizzling evening. The road is slippery and wet, no cars are seen passing this particular road as it is narrow and has bushes aligned at the sides. A young girl in her early twenties is running helplessly on the road as she makes staggering movements.

She is adorning blue jeans and a crop top with slim hands while she holds her coat in her hand. Her hair is drenched in the rain as she uses her fingers to push them back from her face which blocks her view.

A car passes by as she stretches out her hand to stop the driver but the person behind the wheel doesn't stop. She feels helpless but she doesn't give up as she continues in a half run and half walk. She hears a rumbling noise in the bushes behind her as she turns to look.

"Stop!" A masculine voice thundered at her as it sounded a bit far away. She breaks into a run but her legs are too weak to carry her.

Adan, in his late twenties is driving a Rolls-Royce along a silent road, he is wearing a sky blue long sleeve as he just ends a phone call when he sees a blurred vision before him.

He turns on his car headlights just in time and sees the scared figure of a young girl. He steps on his brakes just in time before he crashes into her. He is angry at her as he winds down the window glass of his car. Before he could open his mouth to say anything, three hefty men came out of the bush behind the girl.

They are all having a red badge strapped on their upper shoulder to indicate that they were guards or belonged to a group. The young girl screams as she runs away from them while she pleads with Adan to open his car and let her in. He ignores her and drives away.

Having no other choice as they were catching up with her, she gathers all her strength and runs away but is unlucky as they get hold of her. Dragging her away from the road to the bush, she kicks them with her feeble fists as one of the men carries her on his shoulder.

From the rear mirror of his car, he sees all that is happening. Suddenly, he feels the need to go back and save her. He drives backwards at a high speed, hitting one of the men to the ground with his car. He steps down in a hurry and gives the other man a blow on his right cheek.

"Hey! I'll kill you!" The guard holding the girl threatens as he tries to run away with her while the other guard gets up on his feet and punches Adan in the stomach but he dodges. The other guard holding the girl captive breaks into a run into the bush as he sees that Adan has already overpowered them.

Adan rushes towards him and knocks his knee off as the guard falls flat to the ground on his belly. Adan takes the girl's hand and runs away with her into his car then zooms off. The girl is still in shock as she tries to catch her breath.

She coughs and sneezes repeatedly in the car as she is shivering. Adan looks at her and turns his face to the road. He reaches for his pocket and pulls out a white handkerchief and hands it to her with his right hand.

"Here."

She turns to look at him as she collects the handkerchief from him and nods to show her appreciation as she sneezes inside. She is feeling embarrassed but can't stop it.

"Where is your house?" He asks her as he reaches the end of the narrow road. She keeps quiet and doesn't say anything. He repeated his question again and this time, he looked at her. Her wet hair is covering her face so he can't see her properly but can only see a fraction of her face and tell that she looks sad.

"I don't have a home." She replies with a shivering voice.

"Where are you going?" He asks her again but in a rephrased manner.

"I don't have anywhere to go." She replies again as she turns her face to the window side. For some reason, she seems to have been enjoying the ride until he asked those questions.

"I don't think you understand me. I mean…where should I drop you off Ms.?" Adan asks her again in a calm voice as he looks at her from time to time.

She is silent again. He keeps driving but slowly as he is not sure of which direction to take. There are two bends before him and he doesn't know which direction to take that will lead to her destination. She looks outside from the window then clears her throat as though it is blocked from the cold.

"Drop me here." She finally says.

Adan slows down and looks around to check if there are any houses nearby then looks at her again.

"There are no houses here…this road doesn't look safe to drop you off here. Tell me where you live exactly and I'll drop you at your doorstep." He says to her as he stops the car.

"I don't have anywhere to go sir. I'll find my way from here. Thanks." She replies as tears clouds her eyes. Adan feels that something is wrong with this lady.

How can a young woman as beautiful as she is just drop by the roadside and say she doesn't have anywhere to go? He checks her fingers to see if she has a wedding ring on, maybe she was sent out of her home but he doesn't see any.

"Ma'am, I can't drop you here by the roadside. This is past 11pm, don't you have any relatives to spend the night with before you figure out where to go the next morning? Don't you have friends to crash the night with?" He asks her in a concerned voice.

"Don't worry about me, I'll be fine." She sniffles as she opens the door to get down but it's locked.

"Can you…open the door?" She requests but he can't stop feeling sad for her.

"Not until you tell me where to drop you off where you will be safe."

"You met me coming out of a bush…I had nowhere to go…I was running away for my life not for shelter…" She sobs but tries to hide her tears by suppressing them. Her voice sounds bitter and this man can't resist helping this poor damsel in distress.
