Chapter 2

Charlotte's POV

"What's going on now?" I slapped my cheeks with both hands, I really thought I was dreaming right now.

I felt like my mind was now blank.

Where did the voice in my head come from? Could it be that I was hallucinating without a good night's rest?

I took two steps back with an incredulous expression on my face.

"Excuse me, who are you?" I have to say that at this moment, I looked like a complete idiot. To make sure that this thing was what I thought it was, I gently asked the voice in my head.

"I am your wolf, dear lottie."

The firm but elegant voice in my head sounded again.

If my wolf could change into someone specific, she must have a steadfast, brave heart like Kayla's.

My heart began to beat violently and I felt adrenaline flowing through my body.

"What the hell is going on here? I thought I was the girl without a wolf."

I was so excited that I couldn't speak. Because my wolf had finally appeared!

"Normally, I should get a wolf the moment I reach adulthood. But I remember the day of my eighteenth birthday, I waited for a long time, but I didn't see the wolf appear."

I bit my own lip, I was afraid that my wolf would say something that I couldn't solve.

My wolf was silent for a moment and said to me.

"Lottie, my dear. Because you have lived in human society before. Our ancestors set down the rule, that is, all news about werewolves will be blocked in human society. So according to our werewolf rules, the wolf form is not to be seen by humans."

"So even if I reach the age of eighteen, it is impossible for me to see you, right?"

"As you can see. The state you show in human society is only stronger than normal humans in terms of physique and so on, and you can't take on a wolf form." My wolf replied gently.

"But why did my wolf appear once I stepped into the Wind Pack?" I said.

"Because we are back in the Wind Pack and your wolf is no longer restricted. As a werewolf, your link to the wolf can only be restored if you feel the scent of the pack."

"I see, so it wasn't because of my lack of ability that I didn't turn into wolf form."

Perhaps I was too focused on communicating with my wolf in my head, causing me to fall behind the guards escorting me, and the distance between me and them became even longer.

This made the werewolf guards escorting us start to show some impatience.

They pointed their spears at my chest, very unhappy with my actions. And scolded me, "You are not allowed to leave my sight until you prove your identity. Especially you!"

I bowed my head, and I had to hold back for what happened to me.

Even though I was happy that I could turn into my wolf form, I couldn't clearly show it.

It was so frustrating.

I entered a forest of oak trees, and through the dense vegetation, a dark lake appeared quietly before my eyes.

The people of Wind Pack live by water, and water is an indispensable resource for every wolf pack. In times of drought, different wolf tribes would go to war over a water source.

I followed the werewolf guards towards the upper reaches of the lake, where the castle that only the werewolf leader could live in stood, and the guard army was also stationed there in large numbers.

As I was checking out the scenery along the way, a group of soldiers appeared around the corner in front of me to stop our group. The werewolf at the head, wearing the sword and armor that only leaders have, called us to a halt and began asking us questions.

"What has these ladies done so wrong that they should be escorted like this?" He began to ask the guards who were escorting me.

"Mr. Hank, we found them at the border of Wind Pack, and this lady said that this girl who passed out had been attacked by kidnappers." The guard respectfully reported to this leader Bin.

"Oh! Look at this poor girl, you guys put her down!" Hank commanded the guards to help the unconscious girl to a chair on the street.

Hank finished and looked at me with a puzzled expression, and I looked at him without flinching. Perhaps my eyes were too provocative, he licked his lips and unnaturally turned his head away.

"Did he have a neck discomfort? Or is there something dirty on my face?" I felt a little confused and wiped my face with my hand.

There was nothing dirty on my hands and Hank's reaction was too strange.

Hank moved closer to the unconscious girl and looked at her carefully.

"She looks a lot like one of Wind Pack's recently missing girls."

As he was talking, a chubby werewolf came over in a hurry. He quickly ran up to the unconscious girl and ruffled her hair to identify her carefully.

After a few seconds, he shouted happily, "Amy, poor sister! I finally found you!" But he found that no matter how he called Amy, Amy was unable to show the slightest response.

"Hank, what's wrong with her?" Amy's brother asked anxiously.

"We found her at the Wind Pack border. Amy was attacked and injured by kidnappers." Hank replied, somewhat apologetically.

I stood behind me and at this point I said in a loud voice, "There's nothing more wrong with her, I've medicated her in time to treat her after she was injured. You guys don't have to worry too much about her. Just take good care of her and let her recuperate for half a month and she won't have any problems."

"That's wonderful! Thank you so much for this lady. I'm Amy's brother, John, and I'll get Amy to the hospital as soon as I can." John carried Amy off to the hospital, leaving me where I was.

I watched John leave, and when I looked back, Hank was smiling at me.

I waved to Hank and said, "Mr. Hank? What's wrong with you?"

Hank said apologetically, "I'm sorry for arresting you as a suspect. It's just that kidnappers have been popping up at the Wind Pack border lately, and even with our increased patrols, we can't completely solve the problem. We're also worried that the kidnappers will pretend to be victims and blend into our Wind Pack."

I shook my head at Hank, then smiled and said, "That's okay, I can understand why you guys are doing this. Guarding the Wind Pack is the duty you should perform, isn't it?"

Hank bent down to thank me and graciously invited me to the Wind Pack's reception room for a break.

"If you don't mind, would you be so kind as to take a seat in the reception room. I have some questions I'd like to ask you."

I said calmly, "Sure, I'd love to."

If I could follow Hank into the interior of Wind Pack, then of course I had to seize the opportunity.

After ten minutes or so, Hank and I arrived at the Wind Pack's reception room. Hank sat down in his chair and raised his hand to indicate that I could sit down as well.

"Thank you." I politely took the black tea the maid handed me and took a small sip.

I noticed that Hank kept sizing me up with probing glances, and I felt a little awkward being sized up like that.

He broke the silence first Hank, laughed loudly, but with a kindly look.

"Don't be afraid, I'm just a little curious about you. I was in a bit of a hurry on the street just now, and I haven't introduced myself. I'm Hank, Beta of Wind Pack."

"I'm Ally, I'm a doctor." I had to hide my identity from Hank, which made me feel more or less uneasy inside.

"You are a doctor, I thought you only know a few bandaging techniques. After all, doctors are very rare among wolves, let alone a beautiful young female doctor like you." Hank gave me a surprised and approving look.

"So how did you end up at the Wind Pack border?"

"In layman's terms, I'm a traveling doctor, and I don't really fixate on a particular place to treat patients. I was looking for an herb that day, and I came across an injured Amy, so I saved her by hand."

I knew the reason better than anyone, and I noticed that Hank was looking at me with suspicion, as if to determine whether I was telling the truth.

I tried to keep myself calm, with a decent smile on my face. Hank and I were staring at each other, and the duel between us was obvious.

There was a sharp knock on the door, and the knocker seemed eager to come in and inform something.

Hank listened, looked at me and nodded.

Hank said to the soldier, "Got it, go report back to Alpha and I'll find a way to arrange it."

"Yes, Mr. Hank." The soldier saluted and walked out.

Hank said to me in a sincere tone, "Miss Ally, I think it is very important for me to invite you to stay in Wind Pack, because our children often get malaria but can not get the appropriate treatment, the mother had to watch them die in pain. I think these grieving mothers would be very grateful if you could stay with Wind Pack.

I was surprised by the question: I could save lives and stay in the Wind Pack to find out the truth about my mother's death.

I pretended to think about it for a moment, then nodded my head. "That's no problem, of course I'd like to stay."

Hank looked very surprised at this point and excitedly shook my hand and said to me, "That's great, I had thought I wouldn't be able to complete the Alpha's mission. That's great that you agreed to stay with Wind Pack!"

"It was your Alpha who asked me to stay on as Wind Pack's doctor?"

I was inquiring when there was a sound of footsteps behind the door. Then a strong, gorgeously accessorized werewolf walked in. His scent made me think that this must be Wind Pack's Alpha.

Sure enough, Hank bent down and respectfully saluted him.

"I was the one who instructed Hank to request you to stay with Wind Pack as a doctor."

I shuddered in my heart and looked at the Alpha in surprise that he was Uncle Chesley! I almost blurted out, but I pressed my lips together, hiding my identity was better for finding the truth.

I lowered my head and did not dare to look at Uncle Chesley, although I took the appearance change potion also did not see Uncle Chesley for many years, but I did not guarantee that he will not recognize me.

"You look a lot like someone I know." Chesley stared at me, mouth slowly said.

"Your eyes are almost identical to hers."

"Did he find out that I was Charlotte?" by now I was panicking, Chesley's gaze seemed to burn my back.
