Chapter 3

Charlotte's POV

"That was indeed a very coincidental thing. I thought we could get to know each other sometime."

I rubbed my arm, my elbow had sustained some minor injuries from fighting back against the werewolf and now the wound was starting to bleed.

The pain in my elbow brought me to my senses and I looked up to meet Chesley's gaze, trying to tell him that I had nothing at all to do with the man you're talking about.

I attempted to hide my panic as well as I could.

"I'm happy to meet new people, and..." I said with a smile.

"No need, because she died five years ago." Chesley interrupted me and said coldly.

I felt as if I had touched a wound in Chesley's heart, and he was silent, seemingly unwilling to mention more information about the deceased to me. I had to divert my attention elsewhere.

"That's really too bad." I said.

Everyone has secrets in their hearts that they don't want others to know, and the smart ones choose to keep their mouths shut at this point.

Chesley touched the ring on her hand, which was a whole piece of exquisitely cut, very rare lake blue crystal. I remember this ring, I once asked Uncle Chesley to lend it to me to play with when I was little, but he refused to say anything.

Because the lake blue color was really special, just like my mother's eyes. They were a pure lake blue.

"The doctor who took care of Amy told me that Amy's wounds were handled very professionally, and that Wind Pack needs good doctors like you. Thank you for your willingness to stay. Someone will tell you later how you should stay here as a doctor." Chesley said and turned to leave.

I shrugged, thinking that this Uncle Chesley was getting really strange.

I was happy to be alone, though, because the way Chesley looked at me really made me feel uncomfortable.

Shortly after Chesley left, Hank came in with a pile of papers and said cheerfully to me, "Dr. Ally, His Majesty has ordered me to show you around Wind Pack and familiarize you with the area where you will be working in the future."

I was certainly happy to do so; the place must have changed dramatically after being away from Wind Pack for so long. I was also anxious to get the latest news from Hank.

I looked voraciously at everything that belonged to Wind Pack on the bustling streets, and Hank led me along as we talked about everything Wind Pack.

Hank and I arrived at a training ground where many underage boys were now training to run and hunt. I stood there transfixed, pointing my fingertips at the iron fence outside the training ground, and whispered to Hank inquiringly.

"That used to be a small, two-story, rose-flowered house, wasn't it?" I said, pointing to a vacant lot inside the training ground.

"Yes. I can't believe it, Dr. Ally. How do you know what this place used to look like? I heard from the old folks that that house had one of the best rosebuds in bloom in the Wind Pack."

"Oh, because I came to stay here for a night when I was very young and was very impressed with the roses in bloom." I lied to Hank. This was the place where Kalay and I had lived.

"Do you know where the owner of this house has since gone?" I asked Hank with a little hope.

Hank shook his head and said regretfully, "I don't know. I just heard that a werewolf had died in this house and another werewolf had gone crazy, and then people were afraid to acquire this house.

The house was unoccupied for too long, and the chief made the decision to bulldoze that house and build a new training ground on it. There was no one to take care of the rosebuds, so they gradually withered away."

"That's a shame, such a beautiful rosebush."

"Yes."

The sudden glimmer of hope in my heart was extinguished again. I lowered my head and stopped talking to Hank. He patted me on the shoulder and said.

"Stop being sad. There's a flower store up ahead that has the freshest and most varied flowers in Wind Pack, and people go there all the time to choose flowers. I can tell them that Wind Pack has another doctor!"

I approached the florist and found the door closed, and Hank shrugged at me, "It looks like the owner is out today, unfortunately. But don't be upset, because he's always out shopping for fresh flowers. I think he'll be back soon."

Hank dropped me off at my accommodation and said to me, "Tomorrow or the day after, you can go to the hospital to check in."

I nodded, "Okay thanks, I'll keep that in mind." And I said goodbye to Hank.

During the night, I was not able to sleep well. For hours afterwards, I stared at the wall, curled my body into a ball, and rolled around in bed. My mind went back and forth, trying to come up with some way to find the cause of Kalay's death.

But I couldn't come up with a good idea at all, and I lost my head in the soft pillow.

A hard object pinched the skin of my chest so painfully that I reached into the collar of my shirt.

I remembered that I was still carrying the necklace my mother had given me.

I had forgotten to put it in my bag, so it was still around my neck.

I held the necklace in my hand and examined it carefully, when my wolf and I said, "Lottie, the stone on this necklace does not look like an ordinary stone."

I was very surprised, for all this time I had kept it as Kalay's relic. I had originally thought of it only as a beautiful necklace.

"I think the pendant of this necklace is a special kind of stone. When this stone is stained with blood, it can save an image from the perspective of the owner of the blood, and the pendant contains the image Kalay saw before he died. This kind of stone can't be found by wolves, only wolves can find it."

"So that's how it is. You mean that I can know the images that exist in this stone and thus know the people and things that kalay saw and met before he died?"

"Yes, you could say that."

My heart was beating very fast at this time, and the truth was in my hands at this time. My hands couldn't stop shaking and I had to exhale heavily to make my voice seem less strained.

My wolf sent out sound waves I couldn't hear into the pendant of this necklace, and a watery puff of smoke dispersed from my eyes and a clear image appeared before my eyes.

"Don't come any closer! Please, don't kill me!"

I heard this familiar voice and my heart was seized with a vicious pain. The voice was all too familiar, a tone I had heard a thousand times in my childhood.

"Mom." I looked at what was happening in front of me, and the image was as clear as if it was happening right next to me at this very moment.

A black wolf with thick blood on the corners of its mouth hissed and ran toward Kalay. The next thing I knew, my vision was scarlet, and my ears were filled with my mother's harsh screams and the sound of flesh being viciously torn apart.

The image could not be clearly displayed at this time, and in the fog I could only distinguish the thin back of my mother and a huge black shadow beside her. The mother grabbed the black shadow, and in a short while it disappeared and the fog lifted.

The room was silent, and I sat on the bed looking at the place where the fog had dissipated, unable to calm my heart for a long time.

My wolf spoke to me in its most comforting tone, "That at least provides some help doesn't it?"

I paused for a moment and spoke in an icy voice: "Yes, at least I know the killer is the black wolf. All I have left to do is to find it. "

I drew my dagger and looked at the light illuminated by its edge and said, "Then, kill it."

I thought in silence for a moment, black wolves were very rare in this werewolf world.

Most wolves had only grey-brown miscellaneous fur, and the higher the status of the wolf, the more pure their fur color was. From the image stored in the stone, that wolf's fur color was pure black. And the only wolves with this black fur are the successive generations of Alpha of the Black Night Wolf Pack.

"It seems the killer is very obvious." I said to my wolf.

The next day, at dawn, while there weren't many people on the street, I took my medical gear and went to the Black Night Wolf Pack's office in Wind Pack to inquire about the situation.

I tried to suppress my hatred and anger toward the pack as much as possible. It was pointless to waste any more time agonizing over Kalay's end, because reason made me realize. I had to think about how to infiltrate the Black Night Wolf Pack and kill their Alpha to give Kalay

Revenge was what was completely necessary.

I looked at the werewolves at the Blackout Wolf Pack office, who were patrolling in formation. I walked up and asked a lady from the Blackout Wolf Pack, "Excuse me, can regular werewolves still enter the Blackout Wolf Pack now?"

She looked up, put on her glasses and eyed me warily.

"Are you a subordinate of the Wind Pack?"

"Yes, I'm their doctor."

"Then I'm afraid not. Right now the Black Night Pack doesn't accept foreign werewolves."

"Why? Even doctors are not allowed to enter?" I asked anxiously.

"I'm afraid that even a doctor won't be allowed to enter. Besides, our Black Night Wolf Pack doesn't lack doctors."

The lady looked at me condescendingly. It was obvious that she didn't want to go into too much detail to me.

She turned her head to the side and ended her conversation with me.

I wasn't about to continue to dwell on this cold lady when the church bell rang in the distance. "Bam -----" the bell struck nine times and I realized that it was time to go to work at the hospital.

Hank had told me yesterday that the hospital I worked at was two blocks from the Blackout Pack office in Wind Pack, so I wasn't in a hurry.

A lame black cat ran quickly from behind a flower shelf in the corner, and I barked at it curiously. She stopped in her tracks and watched me.

Then the black cat kicked a flower pot and used its strength to climb up to the roof. I found this scene very interesting, but soon my eyes fell on a spot behind the corner flower shelf.

There was a man with short black hair and a hooded face hiding there. He noticed that I had spotted him, so he quickly turned around and disappeared behind the trellis, just like the black cat that had escaped.

"Hey! Wait, I know you!"
