Chapter 3

Elvis's POV

"Dear Elvis, there's something I need to tell you." Kelly stood in front of me and looked at me with her bright eyes, looking as if she was very nervous.

"Yes, go ahead." I nodded.

"Elvis, my dear lad, I think you should listen to me, I don't think that Lydia is really as bad as you think she is." My wolf Elvo's voice rang out in my head.

"Elvo, you've been putting in a good word for her since I rejected her yesterday. As the future wolf of Alpha, are you still afraid of not finding a mate? Why does it have to be her?" I looked at Kelly intently, but was distracted from arguing with Elvo, "Besides, I already told you what happened twelve years ago, I think you should support my choice."

Before Elvo could say another word, Kelly's words completely interrupted the argument between us, "So Lydia jumped into the waterfall and presumably died."

"Wait, what did you say? Who's dead?" I gave up arguing with Elvo and looked up at Kelly, and I thought I must have had a very scary look in my eyes at that point, because Kelly took two steps back in horror.

"Lydia, my sister." Kelly repeated in a whisper, lowering her head and not daring to look at me, "I don't know what happened yesterday, but Lydia has been very depressed since the party ended, and even snuck out in the middle of the night, and we all went looking for her, all of us, and when we were about to catch her, she jumped straight into the waterfall."

Emotionally depressed? My brow furrowed even deeper. If my memory wasn't faulty, Lydia had cried out yesterday after being rejected by me, was it because of me?

"See, I told you you shouldn't have turned her down." Damn Elvo started clamoring in my head again.

I didn't know why, but I didn't see any sadness from all over Kelly's body, but only a fearful emotion. Was it because my expression was too serious, so she couldn't divide her spirit to be afraid at all?

"Kelly, show me your house." I put down the pen in my hand and stood up. If Lydia really died because I rejected her, I certainly wasn't going to just pretend that nothing had happened.

Seemingly not expecting me to make such a request, Kelly's face took on a few more nervous moments, "Yes, but why?"

I lowered my head and thought about it, but decided to tell her the truth, after all, Lydia was dead, "Yesterday, I refused Lydia to become my mate."

"What? Lydia is your mate?" Kelly's voice suddenly became shrill and her face began to flush. Noticing the look I gave her took on a hint of inquiry, she dropped her head again, "Well, in that case, you should certainly visit my house."

I followed Kelly to her house, but she asked me to stand at the door and wait for a while, then walked in first.

I respected Kelly's request and stood in the doorway crossing my arms over my chest as I remembered again what happened last night, Lydia's red hair and green eyes repeatedly popping into my head, one moment the pitiful look she had when she was seven years old, the next the way she had almost choked on her tears last night.

"Elvo, do you think, did I really do something wrong?" My eyes casually looked around the house, "But Dawn Pack's Luna can't be a teenage girl who doesn't even have a wolf, my mate has to be strong."

"What's the use of talking about this now? What's more, I can't hear your guilt at all in your utterances, you don't feel at all at fault, do you?"

I must admit that Elvo was right, I didn't feel that I did wrong, and I was wise to refuse a woman like Lydia to become the Luna of the Dawn Pack. But if I had known that she would kill herself because of it, I probably wouldn't have put it so harshly, I would have refused in a way that she would have accepted.

"You should think about how to make it up to that poor young girl's family before the future Alpha of the Dawn Pack is seen as irresponsible right now." Elvo didn't have time to worry about what I'm thinking.

"Of course I know, I'm thinking about it." I impatiently reply to Elvo who thought he was the smartest person in the world.

Elvo was a smart wolf, but sometimes he was so proud that he didn't even think of me. And the rejection of Lydia seemed to have become one of the reasons why he despised me.

If Lydia was still alive, perhaps in time Elvo would have understood that I made the right choice and that Lydia was simply not fit to be the Luna of the Dawn Pack. but she's dead, and I thought it's best that I kept all our grudges completely buried in my heart.

After a while, Kelly finally came out and invited me in.

As soon as I stepped through the door, I heard the sound of mournful sobs coming from upstairs. I looked over at Kelly and her eyes were full of apologies, "I'm sorry Elvis, my mom she's so sad and has been crying like this all day."

A whole day? I didn't know Ms. Amara had such a great voice, even after crying all day she could sound so loud and clear.

There was another smashing sound coming from the kitchen and I grabbed Kelly in front of her and said, "It's Dylan who's out of control and smashing things because of Lydia's death, isn't it?"

There was a hint of admiration in Kelly's eyes, "Yes, Elvis, not bad for a future Alpha, you're very smart."

I gladly accepted Kelly's compliment, only to hear a bummed Elvo say in my head, "Things don't seem that simple."

"Come on Elvo, it's as simple as that, a kind couple blaming themselves for the death of their capricious adopted daughter, even sad to the point of almost breaking down, I really don't understand what kind of cold heart you have that allows you to suspect them in such a situation."

I finished with Elvo and looked at Kelly again, "Could you please call both Ms. Amara and Mr. Dylan? I should have to give your family a fair compensation."

Kelly's eyebrows raised, looking very satisfied, "Yes, yes, I'm going now."

Watching Kelly run up to the second floor with her skirt in her hand, Elvo started again, "Don't you think Kelly looks too excited?"

"Or what? Is she going to become completely grief-stricken over Lydia's death and never be able to pull herself together again? I'm offering them compensation just to see smiles back on their family's faces, it's that simple." I was already getting a little tired of Elvo. Lydia didn't even have her own wolf, so why on earth was Elvo so obsessed with Lydia?

Suddenly, my eyes caught sight of something - Gavin's glasses had fallen on the carpet, hidden in its pile, and if it hadn't reflected the sunlight onto the wall and shone on the family portrait hanging on it, perhaps I wouldn't have noticed it at all.

I walked over and picked up Gavin's glasses from the carpet, wondering why there were so many cracks on the lenses, as if they had been smashed with force. Could it be that Gavin had a conflict with someone when he was at the party yesterday? Or did he accidentally drop his eyes here and have them trampled on?

I frowned and put Gavin's glasses in my pocket and went back to the family portrait that had just been illuminated by the reflected light.

Above was Amara, Dylan, Lydia and Kelly family, Lydia pursed her lips and looked at the camera with very sad eyes, the sadness in her eyes directly made me also a little hard to get up. I really didn't know why she would show such an expression in a family photo, looking at how sweet the other three people's smiles were, which should be the expression when taking a family photo.

I thought again of what Kelly had told me, that Lydia often had tantrums over grabbing things with Kelly, so maybe Lydia was the one who had just made a scene when the family photo was taken. Such speculation made me even more convinced that I had made the right choice.

"See Elvo, Lydia is just a grumpy little girl, she's not a good candidate for Luna." I tried to convince Elvo to think like me.

"Lydia died because of you, and now you're actually looking at her picture and finding reasons to denigrate her. Is that your character as a future Alpha, Elvis?"

I didn't expect Elvo's attitude to be so bad and got a little angry, "Yes, she died because I rejected her, but doesn't that make it even more clear that she wasn't fit to be Luna? A Luna of a wolf pack can't be such a weak person, she should have used her ability to tell me that my choice was wrong, then maybe I would have respected her more."

Elvo didn't say anything more, seemingly because she thought I was a bit impulsive. Luckily, by this time, Kelly had come to me with her kind parents, eliminating the awkward atmosphere between Elvo and me.

"Elvis, I heard you wanted to see us, what can I do for you?" Poor Amara still had tears on her face, it seemed Lydia's death really hit her hard.

"I am sorry that Lydia is dead... because of me," I said with difficulty, "I am now officially making amends to you, I invite you to live near the pack house, what do you think? ?"

Pack house was only for the Alpha of the Wolf, Alpha's family and subordinates to live in, and it is a great honor for them to have such a plain family living nearby.

Sure enough, surprise and disbelief appeared on Amara's face, and although she reverted to sadness and grief the next second, I'm still sure they were all happy with this compensation.

"Yes, we all feel fine." Dylan stepped forward and nodded at me, his eyes eager.

Kelly reached out and gave Dylan a hand, then turned to me and said, "Elvis, could you please go and send someone to find Lydia's body? We all want to give her a warm funeral. I don't want Lydia to die in the cold water of the lake, that would be cruel."

Hearing Kelly's words, Amara and Dylan nodded in agreement, "Yes yes, compensation for us is not important, resting Lydia's soul is the most important thing."

A picture flashed through my mind - In the cold lake, the fish with sharp teeth were gnawing at Lydia's body, bloodied Lydia suddenly opened her eyes and stared straight at me, "You rejected me, you rejected me!"

I cringed at the image in my own mind, and yes, I actually forgot that the most important thing was to bury Lydia.

"Yes, I will send someone to look for her, please don't worry." I agreed to the request of these three poor people.

The family moved into the pack house I had arranged that day, and Lydia's funeral was very simple, according to Kelly, because Lydia's body had not yet been found, and they wanted to wait until they found Lydia, and then hold a formal funeral in a beautiful way.
