Chapter 4

Chris's POV.

Out of instinct, I reached out to him for help. I d rather anyone killed me outright, since it was really way too painful.

In a trance of consciousness, my gaze rested on his still slightly swaying cloak, and I admitted that at this moment he looked like my savior.

Because of Burris, I got my life back.

Back in the bedroom, he moved roughly and dropped me on the floor, and I drew on the cold temperature of the floor to soothe my burned skin.

"Do you want to get killed Chris," Burris looked at me angrily.

I looked over at him and said with difficulty as my throat was like a choked piece of glass, "I just want to get out of here."

"You're the lowest rank of the Bloods, you don't even have the ability to heal yourself or walk in the sunlight, where do you think you're going to escape to?" He rebuked me loudly.

Apparently, my restless behavior was giving him a huge headache.

"In short, I will not be at your mercy; my marriage and my life should be in my own hands."

My voice sounded weak, but my eyes were stubborn and persistent.

With no skin intact and me still sprawled on the floor, Burris looked down at me condescendingly, his eyes shifting from anger to sarcasm.

I hated it when he looked at me like that.

"Only those with great power in this world have the right to choose how they live their lives, and you are the lowest ranking of the Bloods, not that way." He said to me.

That sounded really bad, and I was so angry that I even wanted to rip his head off, I just didn't have the strength. There was no sunlight here, but my festering wounds were still getting worse.

He's right, I was a Blood who couldn t even heal himself, but so what, I couldn t stand the thought of getting stronger by feeding on human blood like a monster, there's always a better way than that.

"You are rather nobler than me, Lord Prince, but you don't have a choice, do you?" I said with a smile, nonchalantly sarcastic.

His eyes changed again and I avoided his gaze, though my body was shaking slightly.

Fortunately, he quickly calmed down and didn't bite me, which was a relief.

Then he said to me coldly, "Chris, I could have let you heal quickly, but I think you should learn and grow from it."

The vile man was threatening me, and I glared at him, not begging him for mercy. I was still useful to him anyway, he wouldn't let me die.

With that, he left the bedroom and I heard the door lock recoil as he completely shut me in.

I guessed right, in the middle of the night, he came to my room again and used his healing powers on me anyway, seeing me lying on the floor in a weakened state.

"Know where you did wrong? My dear fiancée." He dangled his hand above the wound, the comforting warmth wrapping around me as the bleeding finally stopped and the pain eased.

As a Prince, he did have a lot of powers and very powerful energy within him, and I didn t understand why he wasn t satisfied.

So, when I finally regained some strength, I couldn't resist asking him, "Burris, you're already the most powerful Blood, why do you still need me? Let me go, will you?"

"No." He shook his head, "It's not enough."

He left again, without much explanation, but this time he looked a little sad, and I didn't know why.

This failure scared me so much that I didn't try to escape again for almost half a month, recuperating in my room.

And Burris stopped bullying me for my obedience, even giving me blood in a cup as a meal to keep me sane.

Of course, I wasn't moved by this, much less compromised, and had already concocted a new plan.

This time I planned to escape at night, and from what I'd seen in the last past half-month, I'd noticed that Burris spent a little time in the secret room of another villa every night.

I didn t know what he's doing in there, but it's the perfect opportunity to escape.

It was a full moon and a good day for the Bloods to absorb their energy, Burris entered the chamber earlier than usual and I decided to start the action tonight.

The maids in the villa were servants and food, slaves bought from the market, and they must have been brutally tortured to be so obedient.

I couldn't bear to hurt them, but to escape I had to draw them away, so I knocked down the candlestick and set the room on fire.

Burris had given them orders that no one was to go near the chamber, so they didn't dare go and tell Burris the news and had to rush to put out the fire.

I took advantage of the chaos to escape, some dark spots on my skin from the fire. The Bloods love cold and shadowy creatures and hate all sources of heat and luminaries.

In the darkness of night, I used my instantaneous ability to flee the scene without the human maid noticing me.

Burris had me in his manor, which was huge, and teleporting once, I had only gotten out of the villa and hadn't left the manor yet. There were several villas on the manor. Unfortunately, the cottage with the secret room was a sure way to escape.

I didn't dare to use teleportation for that section, for the energy fluctuations would attract his attention, and I could only tense my nerves and walk carefully through that section.

As I passed, I couldn't resist my curiosity and took a look towards the villa.

It looked like a derelict building, with not a bit of light visible from the outside, and a few black crows hovering above the spires, gloomy and scary.

"Dang!"

Suddenly, there was a muffled thud from the wall and I stopped in my tracks in shock, looking in the direction of the source of the sound in horror.

What's that sound that? It was kind of like something being slammed hard against a concrete wall.

"Dang!" "Dang!" "Boom!"

There were a few more similar sounds, then a glass high up in the cottage shattered and a man fell out of it.

The figure looked like a man, but the man had fallen from such a height and yet had quickly risen from the ground, and even though his back was to me, I could be sure it was definitely not a human being.

The next moment Burris appeared behind the broken window frame, his eyes were red and he looked to be fuming.

I regretted not leaving right away, I would have been spotted if I went out at the point, but luckily I was hiding behind a very thick tree trunk and would not be seen by them for a while.

God willing! They would leave quickly! I dared not move or speak, but only watched them quietly.

The man who had just fallen off had his back to me, unable to see his face, but with a tall and rugged build and muscles straining his suit, he didn't look good to deal with.

"Lord Prince, Diana would be upset if she knew you were doing this to his husband." The man rubbed his head and chuckled, sounding like he was joking.

"Phillips, if you ever use Diana to threaten me again, I promise I'll make you just like her." Burris' voice sounded as cold as he did.

It looked like this man was more of a headache for Burris than I was, and I kind of wanted to laugh at what a loser he was as a Prince, always getting pissed off everywhere.

"Good." The man named Phillips raised his palm in obedience and continued, "I won't mention Diana, that would make us all sad, how about an exchange of your secret? I just want you to help me find some marquises."

What was the Prince's secret? I was curious.

"Impossible! But if you say anything, I'll rip your head off." Burris spoke in a stern tone.

"Why? If I could become strong, I could protect you and Diana, and she wouldn't be lying in there." Phillips' tone sounded like a complaint.

Burris, with contempt in his eyes, said to him, "If you had that in you, you should have gone to find your own food instead of coming to rely on me, and I really regret letting Diana marry you."

I listened intently from a short distance away, curious about their relationship, apparently there was some connection between them, something to do with the girl named Diana.

Was she Burris' lover?
