Chapter 7
Chris's POV.
"Burris, why doesn't your room have a window? I mean, it looks like a cave in here." I asked him in disbelief, jokingly.
Burris's room had two large floor-to-ceiling window frames, but no inlaid glass. Only black curtains swayed in the night breeze like the wings of a bat.
Sitting on the couch, I could even see the orange moon and star-filled sky outside.
That's a cool design, but I felt like there's less privacy and security.
"I don't like to be too enclosed, isn't this nice? I can just sit and absorb the energy of the full moon." Burris replied to me with a smile, looking pleased with the environment.
"Uh, do you hate or fear the closed environment of ...?" I asked him tentatively.
"It doesn't matter, you can change the room if you don't like it, as long as you don't worry about Phillips visiting you in the evening." Burris said less impatiently.
"No, I certainly don't have a problem with that." I shrugged and turned to walk over to the record player.
Bloods didn t need a rest at all, so I should find something to do myself, and listening to music was a good idea.
"Hey, Burris, can I listen to some music for a while?" I looked to the owner of the record player.
"Sure." Burris reopened his smile and sat up from the couch, "We can still dance if you want, what would you like?"
"Samba, I can only dance samba." I replied subconsciously.
By the time I reacted to the idea of dancing with this monster, the upbeat rhythm was up and Burris, with one hand behind his back, bent slightly towards me and held his other hand out in front of me.
"May I invite you to dance, beautiful lady?" He said with a smile.
Well, I had to admit that he looked like a gentleman at the point, and there didn t seem to be any contradiction between dancing and running away again.
I put my hand in his, and upon my permission, he immediately came forward and wrapped his arms around my waist, and we swirled and jumped to the rhythm in the bright moonlight, and the atmosphere became passionate and joyful ...
By the end of the dance, we were all breathing a little harder and if vampires had a temperature, we'd be sweating profusely by now.
I loved to dance, it made me feel free. When I used to be with Tyrone, we rarely got to dance together. He was the leader of the vampire hunters and there were a lot of girls who liked him. And I always missed the chance to dance with him because I had a mission to complete.
Also because of my many quests, I became the strongest vampire hunter outside of Tyrone, and Tyrone said he loved me for it, which made me proud.
"Chris, I can still teach you the waltz if you want." Burris said suddenly, interrupting my thoughts of Tyrone.
"Sure, if it's not too much trouble for you, I might be a bit dumb in that regard." I joked.
"It's okay, I like to teach people." Burris said with a smile and a soft look in his eyes.
He also looked handsome when he's not angry, but he's still a little less handsome than Tyrone, who is the most handsome and gentle man in my mind.
Burris re-switched the record and the soothing, romantic music played as he took my small hand in his big one and guided me forward or backward, spinning or leaning back ...
It's a very elegant dance, like at a prince and princess ball. If I had been a strong body, I would not have looked good dancing it, but now this body is light as an elf, just ...
"Oh, sorry, I stepped on you again." I guiltily let go of my hand while taking a step back.
The beat was messed up because of my mistake, and I clenched my fist a bit helplessly.
"It's okay Chris, don't be nervous, take my hand." Burris' voice was gentle as he continued to patiently guide me.
Burris's voice seemed to carry magic, and hearing him say that relaxed me enough to pass him my hand again.
"You were just running away and then unfortunately we found you weren't you?" Burris looked at me with a smile that seemed to be tinged with a bit of derision.
I was startled and accidentally stepped on him again.
"It's okay, don't be nervous, I just want to talk to you, it's a good vibe right now, isn't it?" Burris said soothingly, pulling me along to the beat of the dance.
"What do you want to talk about?" I asked, looking up at him.
The atmosphere was still inevitably tense.
"I know you haven't given up running away, you're the most stubborn woman I've ever seen, rude and bold. No one seems to have taught you to obey a man more powerful than you." Burris stated in a flat tone.
"Of course, if I could become more powerful than you, I wouldn't have to obey you or be your bride." I looked at him undaunted.
"Let's just say that while you're not even a Viscount right now, you can become instantly powerful once you bite a Marquis of a higher rank than you and drain them of their blood." Burris said.
"I don't want to be a blood-sucking monster, there's always a better way than that." I said.
"You should recognize the reality Chris, you are a vampire and there are only those two ways to get stronger." Burris explained.
"I can help you find enough blood slaves so that you don't have to risk challenging the Marquis, but you don't seem willing to take human blood, so the only way to gain their power is to defeat a Blood of a higher rank than you, as is the rule of our family."
"Why are you telling me this? Aren't you afraid I'll rip your head off?" I looked at him in disbelief.
I didn't seem to step on him for a long time, and the dance steps gradually came together.
"Ha, if you have that kind of power, of course you can come and kill me and run away. But if you get stronger and can't defeat me, you will be sucked dry by me." Burris said cheerfully.
Yes, he merely wanted me to get stronger, not helping me. He just wanted to drain my blood and gain my power as soon as possible.
"Thank you for your honesty, Lord Prince, and I will give your request some thought." I said, deliberately stepping on his foot.
Burris' face didn't change as he continued to smile, "Chris, I'm looking forward to your growth."
The smile was false to the core, and the eyes held a teasing look. He must have thought I would give in and be his food. But I was still planning my escape. I would exterminate them monsters if I had the chance.
After a few more days, Burris received word that the family Elders were coming to prepare for the Prince's wedding, but had run into a few troubles on the way and needed his help.
Phillips hadn't left yet, and he kept giving me that disgusted look that Burris had to take with him.
Before leaving, Burris gave me a careful explanation and warned me that it was dangerous out there, saying that he had left a butler named Andrew to protect me.
I hadn t met Andrew yet, but I thought I should be able to meet him when I escape. Burris said he's here to protect me, which seemed that he's sending someone to spy on me.
Burris said Andrew was a Viscount that rank above me, which might be a test for me. If I could defeat Andrew, I could escape from here.
Since there was a fire in the room I was previously occupying, I had moved to Burris' room, which I searched carefully after he left, but could not find the silver dagger.
But I rummaged around the corner and found a silver candlestick. I weighed it in my hand. Not bad. The weapon was quite competent, but not sharp enough, I could modify it, it's my strong point...
