Chapter 9
After talking for a while, Andrew and I exchanged good nights. But I knew he hadn't gone far, and he would come out and stop me as soon as I got out of the villa.
I lay in bed all night thinking about it until the morning light appeared, and then I finally came up with a solution. I drew the curtains and was going to wait until the moon came out at night before I made my move.
Into the night, Andrew hand-delivered my dinner, and I was ready before he pushed the door open.
I slit my wrist with my short spear, blood snaking down my palm, and I saw Andrew back out quickly just as he entered.
His movements were a little panicked, and the tray with the glass in his hand was knocked to the floor, filling the air with the intense fishy and sweet smell of blood.
"Chris! What are you doing? Why are you hurting yourself?" Andrew's exasperated voice sounded at the door.
He wouldn't dare come in at all, for him my fresh blood was so tempting that he wouldn't be able to resist sucking me dry if he got too close.
"I'm sorry Andrew, I have to get out of here, but I don't want to hurt you." I told him apologetically before jumping out of the window again.
Andrew had been following not far behind me, but didn't dare get too close, and I always had a way to lose him once I got out of the manor.
The gates of the manor were in sight, and beyond the black iron fence was a dense forest. I realized that Burris's manor was actually on a hill.
I thought I was about to be set free, but just outside the gate I was stopped again, by Phillips.
He was back unexpectedly and he was alone. He looked at me greedily as if he wanted to eat me up.
"Lovely Miss Chris, are you trying to escape? How unfortunate that I ran into you." He chuckled, while his red eyes were narrowed as his gaze focused on my injured wrist.
I thought he'd prefer to call me 'cute little snack', ew, which was disgusting. Being looked at by him like that, I didn t understand why Diana would appreciate such a hypocritical guy like him.
"I'm just out for a walk, Andrew's right behind me." I said in an indifferent tone, implying him not to mess around.
"Is that so? That useless brat, all he does is follow Burris around and be a heel." Phillips said sarcastically and carelessly.
I glared at him with blazing eyes and cursed angrily, "Phillips, you better clean your mouth before you speak! Your breath is revolting."
Nothing good could come from pissing him off, but I just couldn't stand it, not to mention he didn't look like he'd let me off easy. I just prayed that Andrew wouldn't follow me, or I was afraid I'd get him in trouble.
As I spoke, my hand had reached back and gripped the short spear tightly, waiting for him to lunge and I would strike hard.
But Phillips didn't lunge directly, as his red eyes flickered between light and dark, I felt a pressure come over me, not as much as Burris's, but it made my whole body go limp.
Damn it! He used rank suppression.
I lost strength even in my fingers, the short spear rolled off the grass and I could only watch Phillips step closer ...
"Stop! Lord Phillips, this is Miss Chris."
Andrew's anxious voice came from behind him.
"Don't come any closer! Andrew, don't come any closer!"
Andrew couldn't hear my inner cries, and the cute little boy, so as not to smell me, had stuffed two balls of tissue in his nose, probably stained with ginger water.
"It's Andrew, don't rush, take your time, I can solve you first, then her." Phillips had a contemptuous grin on his face.
"Lord Phillips, you can't do this, the Lord Prince won't spare you." Andrew's little face was serious and didn't look scared at all.
I sweat in anxiety off to the side, taking advantage of Phillips' distraction and taking the short spear back into my hand.
"Burris? He's still struggling to save the old guys, I'm afraid he won't make it back in time." Phillips said spreading his hands out, sounding rather smug.
Sure enough, Phillips ran away from the battle just to come back and suck my blood.
Andrew pursed his lips and his eyes rolled quickly as he added, "Don't you want to save Lord Diana? Miss Chris was used to saving Lord Diana and you are not to hurt her."
"Oh, Burris wouldn't have waited until now if he was willing to save Diana, he couldn't part with the power of his inheritance. Besides, Diana's death has nothing to do with me." Phillips said indifferently.
Andrew looked at him angrily and stood in front of me with a serious face, "Miss Chris, hurry and run! I'll stop him for you."
"Kid, don't be a hero, you're just one level above me, I'm not leaving you behind." I said in a hushed voice.
Seeing Phillips approaching us, I was the first to teleport to him and raised my hand to deliver a blow, but he was faster than I was and disappeared in a flash.
It was a jungle, and I stood in place, holding the short spear in hand and looking around warily.
"Chris, watch out up there!" Andrew yelled from behind me.
I looked up and saw Phillips drop from the tree, right at my head, and his fingernails were lengthening rapidly.
It came so fast that I didn't even have time to dodge.
I wasn't hurt, and at the critical moment, Andrew pushed me out of the way, but he was in Phillips' grasp.
Phillips held Andrew's thin neck in one hand, and his long black nails had trapped in Andrew s flesh. Blood flowed from Andrew s wound, staining his small white suit as he stirred and struggled in mid-air in pain.
My eyes widened and my heart crinkled as if I could feel Andrew's pain.
As Phillips' hand tightened a little, Andrew bared his fangs in pain ...
"Let him go, please, Phillips, come bite me." I pleaded with Phillips.
"Hmph..." grunted Phillips, his tongue sliding over his sharp teeth, "Take it easy. Both of you will be my dessert."
"Chris... Run! Hu...rry..." Andrew said to me with difficulty.
I rushed forward in a mad dash, Phillips didn't seem to expect it and didn't duck in time to get stuck in my left shoulder while Andrew was still in his hands.
The short spear stuck in his wound, and I was thrown away from him and smashed against the trunk of a tree, landing heavily back on the ground and not getting up for a moment.
Phillips lost his grip on Andrew due to a left shoulder injury. Andrew broke his grip but didn t immediately run away and instead tried to give him another blow with his short spear.
However, Phillips had reacted.
What happened next was more than I wanted to see.
Phillips, the fucking devil, ripped Andrew's head off!
"Oh! No! Andrew!" I screamed, slapping the ground frantically as tears rolled down my face.
I witnessed the tragedy in front of me, but was helpless to save it and my heart was breaking with pain.
I jerked towards Phillips with my eyes hard fixed on him. I was going to make him pay and redeem himself for Andrew regardless of all consequences.
Phillips' face was splattered with Andrew's blood, and he grinned cockily at me, seemingly showing off and smug, as he looked at me like a clown.
He didn't duck, letting me come to him, and I bared my fangs at him, ready to bite him hard on the neck, but once again he overpowered me with his rank.
I lost the strength to resist and Burris' words came to mind, "Only those who are powerful are entitled to choose the way to live."
Unsurprisingly, Phillips' cold and sharp teeth had been against my neck...
