Chapter 2 Chapter 2

Abby could feel that she was wrong about him as the dominant man that he was making an effort to depict was nothing but a cover to the emotional person that he was literally.

She glanced at the chronograph on the prison wall and it was exactly 9:30 am and she had wasted most of her time on his conceited behavior but well, she had to deal with what was left so as not to have it look like, she had wasted her time and energy to come down there without any positive outcome.

Without any further reticence, Abby, retraining her attention on the files in front of her, had spent quite a few days going through them, to know the cause of his arrest and the penalties levied on him, before coming to talk with him eventually.

Raising a brow and monitoring her client's behavior towards her questions, she talked over the cases he was been charged with which involved assault, robbery, fraud, and attempted murder.

Warren was being identified as the one amongst many other culprits. Abby asked him what he had to say to clarify his name.

Warren, raising his eyes to meet Abby's stare, spoke out in a meager voice,

"I could be anything from the list of things they are accusing me of, but to say that I attempted to kill someone, that is certainly not who I am", he let out dropping off his gaze again.

Abby had felt something she had never felt with no client before as he had raised his head, accepting his blunders without making excuses for them.

His sincerity was one of a kind, and in all her years working as an advocate, she could somehow detect when a client was lying just to get off the hook and when he or she was telling the truth sincerely from their hearts.

" What else did you do, because, on your file here, it states that you are the boss of one mafia group here in Maitland", Abby spoke out waiting to hear his response.

Warren was aware that he was going to be punished for his crimes, but when he was listening to something that he had no idea of, he was not happy at all.

Following the question that his attorney had asked him, he answered with another question,

"If you truly think that I am the head of a Mafia association, do you honestly think that I will still be locked up in here for one year as I have been?", his question fell out.

From his response to Abby's question, she could see that she had a very cunning client to defend and so she had to be strong.

She was reading him carefully as she noticed that he was very meticulous over every single word that came out of his mouth, so she had to take advantage of a lot of levelheadedness.

"Can you tell me how you found yourself in here and why you did what you did?", Abby interrogated as she was keen to his answer.

Warren was not observing Abby like someone he could trust and her young physical appearance, made him misjudge her capabilities so he spoke up,

" I was with my friends at the time of the incident that they are accusing me of, my friends can attest to that".

He was right to say what he just said, and yes, although she has witnesses who said that her client was with them during the time of the robbery, the A.D.A claimed the pictures from a closed-circuit camera, put her client at the crime scene.

Initially, the hard-nosed assistant officer had included other unfound charges that were to be disregarded.

Unfortunately for Warren, his witnesses were not model citizens, all having priors of petty crimes, making lost of them not to show up at the quest bar in court.

"Can you tell me who you live with and how many siblings you have?", Abby insisted on knowing what he had behind his mind.

With a reluctant mood, he asked why Abby wanted to know about his family and she answered back to him saying that she knows everything about him was written in his file, but she needed him to be open to her and talk to her like he will do with a friend.

" I know that you are an only child, and also that you live with your mother at Josh street and she is probably the only person you call as she is sick and cannot visit you over here", Abby narrated a few of his information.

Letting a smile slip off his lips, he uttered,

"I can see that you know a lot about me, so what is there to talk about again?".

Abby was certain that there was something her client withholding from him, but so far, he had not been able to crack down the hard shell the young man had affected so as not to appear as "Soft" faced with her.

"I told you that we can discuss anything and everything not so?", she asked her client, reassuring him about the advantages of opening up to her.

She had to use her special weapon in this specific case as her client was proving to be inflexible to all her questions.

"I want you to think about your mother and what she may be going through now as we speak alone bothered about your well-being in a place like this", she added to the many things she had said to him already.

Catching a glimpse of how enthusiastic he had spoken about his mother, she could see that his love for his mother was what was still keeping him going in that prison cell.

Warren could feel comfortable with his new attorney.

Unlike the grumpy ones who only cane there to judge and misunderstand him, Abby had gone through his file and she was a wee if some basic things about him that the others did not even take note about as it was in existence to them and their minds were just to fulfill the job that they had to do.
