Chapter 4 Chapter 4
Reciprocating her smile, Warren nodded in agreement to not call her Attorney again but by her name which is Abby.
" Shall I drop you at your house?", Abby proposed as she was aware that he had no money nor friends that had come to pick him up.
Warren tried denying it as he told her that his area was not good for Bernie her car as it looks expensive.
Abby then proposed to drop him off at the bus site, yet Warren, still wanting to oppose but Abby had already entered her car, asking him to get inside if he did not wish to be thrown again inside the prison.
They both chuckle as Abby starts up her car and drive for the bus station where she was going to drop Warren off so that he could get a bus to his house.
There was a hush between them as Abby drove them to the bus stop.
Warren who could not stop staring at Abby, thinking of how beautiful but simple she is, and her determination to get him out of jail is what has made him be a free man and he was going to try his best to let her know that her efforts were not wasted and his commitment to her was genuine.
Noticing that Warren had been catching a glimpse of her, she asked with a smile,
"Is there something on my face Warren?".
Listening to her say that, just meant that she is a modest person as compared to the girls in the area where he had grown up and lived in.
The ladies at City boulevard were are dancers and strippers, while some were thieves lurking under the veil of waitresses to do their dirty act which is a common thing in his neighborhood.
" No there is nothing on your face Attorney", he responded turning his face to the other side of the road through the visible glass mirror on the car.
Abby reminded him of her name and telling him that if he calls her anything else order than her name, she was going to get mad.
This sank into his ears like someone who was very obedient whereas deep down in him, he knew what his real nature is, but he could not dare to behave with her as he behaves with the ladies in his neighborhood as Abby was unique.
Warren considered her as a very fragile human being and she was just looking at her and her skin, one could tell that he has never experienced anything tedious in all her life.
"Warren, get that thought of having her out of your mind because she will never look at someone like you", he held his head with both hands, squeezing it as he muttered those words to himself.
Warren thought to himself that a rich, beautiful, and talented young lady like Abby could never be without a man in her life so he just had to respect her as his lawyer and rescuer.
He could already catch a glimpse of the bus station and he was happy to be heading home.
" There you can drop me over there Abby", Warren spoke out as he pointed out to the bus stop, letting Abby turn the wheel of her car in that direction.
When she had finally reached the bus stop, she stopped her engine by turning the car keys, breathing out as though she had been doing something tedious.
"Are you okay?", Warren raised a question worried as she could see the stress formed on Abby's face.
Turning her head and holding her neck with her left hand, she whispered that she was okay but she had been feeling somehow for the past few days as her neck has been giving her problems.
Warren, putting on a concerned face, wished so much to help her relieve her pain but he could not do that as he had to respect his limits.
Showing appreciation for her kindness and also the fact that she brought him from the prison to the bus stop, he told her that he had to take his leave to go meet his mother.
Abby was happy to hear that as she imagined the joy on his mother's face when she will eventually get to see him.
As Warren opened the door of her car to step out of it, he took out his bag from behind and hanging it on his back, he wished her a splendid day.
Abby with a smart look at him asked him to wait for a second as she extended her hand to the backseat of her car, grabbing her sack and taking out her purse from inward as she put up with some money that she handed to Warren saying,
" You can use this to get a cab back home and say me hi to your mother".
Warren, preserving his ego as a man, rejected the money from Abby's hands as he told her that he could manage just fine.
Abby, laughed out saying,
"I am not trying to buy you off with money young man and I can not even do that, I just decided to help a client and also a youngster so it is nothing serious", she spoke up getting down of her car and walking to the other side to hand over the cash to him.
Abby was aware that, it was like a slap to his face giving the fact that he is a man and he can fend for himself, but knowing that he is from prison with no one to come to pick him up, she decided to do that.
Leaving her hand hanging in the air, as passerby could see her feel embarrassed, Warren decided to take the money in order not to get Abby furious with him.
With a tone of gratitude and shyness, Warren lowering his head said,
" Thank you Abby for everything, I will pay you back".
Abby let out a smile let out,
"You do not have to lay me back anything but if you insist, then I will be glad to accept it back in the form of a pineapple juice", and her smile lightened up Warren's day.
He could not understand how such a fine lady could be so playful despite her public standard and wealth.
While Abby kept on laughing, Warren could not hold back from thinking of how simple and nice she is.
Turning his head around and catching sight of some delinquents, Warren immediate held Abby in his hands without a second thought and he whispered gently in order not to break her out,
" You have to leave from here Abby, this place is not saved for someone like you".
Abby's chuckle got stopped and she asked him what was going on, but he just her to leave from there and go back home.
She could understand that something was getting awkward so she said goodbye and passing into her car, she caught a glimpse of Warren again for some seconds and then she turned on her car and drove out of there heading to her house to see her mother who was planning for a charity event that night.
Waiting for Abby to completely leave before taking his cab to the house, he smiled like a teenager who just fell in love.
"She is such a good woman", he muttered as he veered around to get a cab.
Abby, driving to her mother's house, could not stop but think about all the things that she could experience with Warren when she smacked her head with her hand muttering,
" Stop what you are thinking about girl, he is too young for you".
She kept on her speed on the road as she had a focus which was her mom's house.
Paying attention to her phone vibrating, she pressed the blue tooth player, connecting her call to it to be able to answer after catching a glimpse of the caller and noticing that it was her fiance.
She picked up her call and with an exciting voice she asked him how his day had begun and Bernard responded with a smart tone telling her that it had begun well.
"How about you, how is your day and what are you doing now?", he raised a question as he could listen to Abby take a deep breath before answering to him.
She described how her day had begun and the things she had to do from the prison and now she was heading to her mom's house.
Bernard was glad to know that she was doing just fine and he said to her with a serious tone,
" I do not want you to be stressed out can't", he spoke out telling her to be ready on time as he was going to pass by her apartment before 6 p.m, so as to pick her up for the event but Abby asked him not to bother because she will be going over with her best friend Jimmy, who happens to live in the same building with her.
Bernard hesitating for some seconds and releasing a huge sigh, accepted what she had just said and kissed her a wonderful day till they meet at the charity venue.
Abby wished him the same and hung up the call. She comprehended for a fact that Bernard and Jimmy were not on good terms and might never like each other and she was caught up amid her best friend and her fiance.
Letting out a breath of exasperation, she signaled her to turn to the left, by throwing on her signal lamps indicating to every car that is behind her that she wants to take a turn to the left.
Keeping her eyes on her external rearview mirror at the left side of her car, she turned her car at the nook, making her route through to her mom's house that was not too fat from the convergence.
She was happy to be going to see her mom as it had been a week she has not been able to see her because of her work.
Mrs. Williams has never been in support of what her daughter wanted to become though she could understand the motives as to why she had to do that.
Mrs. William's charitable organization has been going on for years as she was in partnership with other institutions and each year, a charitable organization was being brandished having her as the host of the event.
Her husband was a well-known business mogul in society and a lot of people had their trust in his family which is why she could continue with her charitable works without any problem.
Having this event, was always a great point of earning for her and the others as their target is to visit the sanitariums, orphanages, and the handicaps to help them face their day-to-day problems and to warm their hearts as they will feel that they are not alone in their struggles.
Since the loss of her husband and son by an unknown assassin, she had not remarried nor had anything with any man as she dedicated her life to bringing up her daughter who is now one of the most recognizable lawyers in the whole of Kaye Island.
Abby was already approaching her family house when she looked at the street having memories of her and her father striding when she was young and tears cropped up in her eyes.
It has been years since her father left her but the thought of his and her older brother, always made their way into her head especially at night when she will go to put up with a nap, all she will see are their faces smiling at her.
"How I miss you both daddy", she always said whenever she thought about them.
Though her father and brother's culprit were never found, she made sure to save other people from felons.
