Chapter 6 Are you guys couple???
She raised her hand toward her. A big, bright light came and hit the girl.
"Arhhhhhh!" I jolted awake, screaming. I was covered in a cold sweat. Sigh, I had this dream again.
This was a dream that had followed me as long as I knew. I once talked to my mom about this dream when I was six. She said it was just a dream, and I should forget about it. But I never got myself to forget this because, as I remember, I frequently saw this dream as I grew older. I knew each and every moment clearly, and each time I saw this, I would be covered in a cold sweat. I still felt the exact same fear each time. Even though I saw this very frequently, I was never used to it, nor was I fond of this dream. Every time, it left an unknown pain in my heart.
I looked out of the window. It was still daytime. I got out of bed and went to the bathroom. I washed my face. I thought for a while and decided to go to the mobile shop to fix my phone. I changed into my baggy shirt and pants before leaving the apartment.
When I reached the shop, there were not so many people, so after a while, it was my turn. The shop worker checked the phone, and they said changing the screen would do for this time. I left my phone at the shop, as it would take some time. And simply wandered around the market without any destination.
This city had a lot of my memory. I had been living in this city for almost 18 years. Yeah I was turning 18 soon. I looked at the mall, mom... She used to bring me and Sarah here for shopping for main occasions. The mall was popular in A city for its unique dresses and its good service.
Sigh I could still picture myself with Mom and Sarah happily entering the mall.
Sigh it's just a memory now.
I shook my head and kept moving forward. I went to a park and sat on a bench. In front of me was a little girl on the swing, and at her back was her mom, helping her to swing back and forward. My eyes were almost teary.
Seeing the child and her mom so in love with each other, my heart somehow ached.
My mom, whom I loved, didn't want me, and the mom who gave birth to me abandoned me. I didn't even know her name.
I forced back tears and looked away. Then I feel someone's gaze on me. I felt like I was being watched. I looked around, but there was no one. I shook my head. Maybe I was imagining things again.
It took more than an hour to wander around. So I got up and went to the shop where I left my mobile before. When I reached there, my mobile was already fixed. I just took the phone, paid the bill and moved towards Cami's apartment.
When I reached home, it was already 7 p.m., and Cami was cooking dinner. I went in and changed my clothes, and I went to the kitchen and helped her. We did our dinner quietly.
When I was in the washroom, Cami said I had a new email.
"Check it for me?" who would mail me at this time. I thought to myself.
"Aaaahhhhhhhhh!" Cami entered the washroom screaming and squeezed me into a tight hug.
"What happened?" I asked her, confused.
"You are selected. Damn you, girl; you'll be working for Golden Company tomorrow. I'm so happy for you, Ley," she said, starting to jump but never breaking the hug.
"Ok, Cami, I got it. Now stop, or we'll fall. I'm happy too, ok?" Yeah, I was happy, at least with this job, my life would be back on track. After all, I needed this job to make a living.
The following day, she made breakfast for both of us. She didn't even let me help. She said this was a way to wish me good luck. After breakfast, she even picked up a dress for me to wear.
She really takes good care of me. I'll make up for it in the future. After I got dressed, she dropped me off at the Golden Company.
I went inside. Melisa and Anyee were already there. Melisa said, smiling, "Congratulations, Miss, for successfully entering Golden Company. I hope you will be of great help, and Anyee will show you around." She said it, smiling and left.
"Let's go I will show you around "Anyee said, heading toward the elevator.
Then we headed towards the fourth floor, which was the finance department in which I would work from now on. She showed me my desk, pantry, washroom… and so on.
"This is all, I will be there if you need anything. The canteen is on the 3rd floor. We'll have lunch together. Ok?? I'll go now. I have my own work to do. But look for me if you need anything." She said it like a sister.
"okay. Thank you, Miss Smith, for your help." I was really thankful to her.
"Hey, just call me Anyee. You're making me look old," she said, winking her eyes at me.
I smiled and said, "Then thank you, Anyee."
She just nodded her head and left. Then I looked at my desk. It was a small desk with a computer on it. I put my bag aside and sat on the desk. I looked at the pile of files and started my work. I was a good student at college, so I quickly understood how to do this.
When I finished with all the documents, I got up and was about to go to the finance manager to submit the files when a girl with short red hair came towards me and took the documents from my hands. Instead, she gave me another stack of documents and said, "Yo, newbie, do you even know where the office of the finance manager is?" She looked at me up and down with a disgusted look.
"No," I said, and I looked at her.
She was a girl in her twenties. She was wearing a plain shirt with a pencil-colored skirt. She was wearing expensive shoes and a lot of makeup, like a lot.
"If you are done stalking me, finish this one, and I'll give it to the manager," she said and left.
I looked at her until she reached a door and entered it. So this is the manager's office. Hmm? I thought to myself.
I was looking at the files when Anyee came to me, and we headed towards the cafeteria. It was on the second floor. When we reached the elevator, the red-haired girl who gave me the new stack of files just now was also there.
Anyee smiled at her and said, "Hello, Olivia" . Oh, so she is Olivia? I thought to myself. But Olivia didn't respond to Anyee, nor did she cast a glance at her. She simply obtained it on her mobile. I looked at Anyee, she was red from embarrassment. I didn't say anything to her and looked as if nothing had ever happened.
When the door of the elevator opened, Olivia got out first, and we followed her from behind.
" Riley you stay there, I'll go and get the food. Trust me, you'll love what you'll have today." She said that and went to get food without giving me time to respond.
I looked at her disappearing figure and sighed. I went to the vacant seat she signaled. And I sat there looking around. The cafeteria was so lively now. Everyone was chatting happily and enjoying their lunch.
When I was looking around, someone patted my shoulder. I turned to look back, only to see Rick standing behind me. Yes, I said Rick, Rick Edward, from the interviewer yesterday, I remembered he was the assistant of HR manager Melisa Cullen.
"Are you with Anyee?" he asked me.
" Yeah how did you know?" I asked him in confusion. Did he see us coming together? I thought to myself.
"Um, we usually sit here," he said awkwardly, scratching the back of his head.
"We..?" I wanted to ask who we were, but then I realized he was talking about Anyee. I mean, come on, he just asked me about her so Anyee should be the other one in his 'we'. Right?
"Where is she?" he inquired again.
"She went to get the food," I said.
"Oh, by the way, you are Riley, right?" he asked, smiling.
"yes, Riley. And I remember you are Rick." I said jokingly.
He laughed at that. At this time, Anyee arrived at the table with two plates of food. She placed the food on the table, looked at Rick, and asked, "When did you arrive? Did you meet her already?"
"Yes, I met her. Where is my plate?" Ricked said to Anyee.
Anyee rolled her eyes at him and said, "I just had two hands. How am I supposed to carry three plates? Go and get yourself," she said, passing a plate at me.
Then Rick looked at me and said, "You are lucky, Riley. I eat with her every day, but she never gets food for me,not a single time. And you got served on your first day."
Anyee rolled her eyes at him and said, "You don't have to say that. I am going to get one more plate."
When she got up, Rick quickly pushed her in her chair again and said, "I was kidding. You don't have to. The manager said we were going out to meet a client. We'll eat there. I just came to see you. I'm going now. Riley, I'll see you around." With that, he turned and left.
I was so curious about the relationship between Anyee and Rick. I'm not a gossip person, but today I can't help myself.
I looked at Anyee, who was busy eating lunch, and asked, "Are you guys a couple?"
