Chapter 8 chapter 8

She went into the bathroom and eased herself and that felt good and returned to her bed directly.

She sat on her bed thinking of ways she was to get discharged.

"I can't stay here any longer", she mumbled in pain.

All she could think about was the hospital bills and get mother's health that was a critical issue at that time as she could have another rise anytime.

As she was deep in thought, she noticed that someone was standing at her door outside and when she lifted her gaze, it was her kid brother Bryan.

He had been standing there like someone who was waiting for an invitation before he could get in and see his elder sister

" Hey Bryan, how are you doing?", she asked hugging him.

"I should be the one asking you that Betty", he uttered with sadness in his voice.

She looked at him and knew what he could be feeling so she reassured him with a smile and responded,

" I am doing fine as you can see and I believe that I will be discharged soon".

Bethany looked through the door using her eyes as radar to search the corridor like a child waiting for a present.

"Are you looking if the mother is outside?", Bryan asked straightening the bedsheet on the bed to sit down.

She swallowed the lump that had formed up in her throat after hearing that question as she had begun thinking of the worst things and asked him,

" Is everything okay with her?.

"Calm down Betty dye is very fine and sound she just needed to rest reasons why she asked me to come to look after you here at the hospital while she sleeps for a while", he recounted.

On hearing this, Bethany inhales and exhale as though she was at the brim of giving up on existence.

" Thank goodness for that because I was already thinking of the worst", She muttered.

Bryan asked if she needed him to do anything for her but she said she was okay but she wanted to eat apples.

He stepped out to buy some apples for her before coming back so that they could sleep.

Duke was at his open house and his dealer already booked a fresh one for him to spend the night with.

When she arrived, Duke was complete still at her beauty but he couldn't get Bethany off his mind.

He wanted to have a good night to forget about the unpleasant incident that had happened at the hospital earlier that morning.

"You know hat you are to do not so?", he asked.

" Yes, I do and my task is simple", she answered.

"You treat me well, and you will be treated nicely.

The lady smiled at the sound of that and pushed him on the bed.

She took off her shoes and stockings and his aroused was the next to be taken off.

His belt was the latest designer collection and the gal took it off carefully.

"Do you want a massage before I lick you up or do you prefer me to twerk for you?", she looked at him while touching his sensitive parts.

Without much reluctance, he carried her up in his arms and laid her down on the bed kissing her as though he wanted to choke her up.

When they were done he remained on her kike a lifeless person and the night was a satisfying one as they slept off.

He woke up the next morning with a terrible headache probably from the heavy drinking last night.

He held his head in his hands as he tried getting up from his bed to go to the bathroom.

He didn't even look at the person who was sleeping beside him with the home he had enjoyed all night.

He got into his washroom and took out his toothbrush to brush his teeth.

The bathroom door was opened and the lady walked into it holding him from behind and kissing his back.

Duke was the kind of man that didn't like to have anything extra with a lady he has to spend the night with.

" Were the pros and cons of the contract not read to you before you decided to cole here?", he asked like a Tiger.

"It was darling", she responded smiling like a newly wedded bride.

"If the regulations were read to you clearly and you understood them, I don't think you will be doing what toy are doing now". He whispered cleaning his mouth with water from the faucet.

She continued kissing him all over thinking that he was joking with what he said, but Duke pulled her out of her bathroom to the room yelling that he only needs women to satisfy him and it is a no-strings-attached business.

" What is that your name again?", he asked looking for his checkbook.

"Sharon Donald", she emitted.

He signed a check for her and told her to leave and that her contract with her was ended.

She was hesitating to leave so he got up and went to open the door for her to get out.

She licked up her bag, gave him a spiteful look, and pushed him on one side.

" Why are all these ladies so crazy and desperate to be with wealthy men?", he spoke out as he laughed.

It was Sunday and usually, it was a boring day for him as he neither believed in the existence of Christianity or Islam.

Duke was an atheist because he did not believe in any religion. He helped in hard work and life on earth.

He was not even concerned with life after death as for him when you are alive you can do everything you want and the moment you die, that is all.

The Sunday had commenced agreeably for Bethany and her family, as she was going to be discharged that day.

It is even three days of staying in the hospital doing nothing but to sleep and wake up.

"You will be discharged today Bethany", the doctor told her.

Her smile rayon the whole room. That smile had not been seen for some days and it seemed like ages.

Her mother and brother were present there and her only friend and colleague Eva was there too.

" You will be coming home today and we have a surprise for you", her friend said.

The day is going to be beautiful for Bethany. She was going to be able to feel the summer sun on her fine smooth skin and she will be able to see the beauty of nature and the streets.

To feel the breeze and sound of the birds from the trees and the sky as blue as the ocean.

Her mother wasn't happy and she kept delaying them from going to the house and Bethany had noticed it.

It seems her mom was waiting for someone but the question was who could it be?.

"Mommy can we go home now?", she asked softly.

" Just be patient a little more Betty", she pleased with a sweet smile.

They had to wait for ten more minutes and it was obvious that no one was going to come so Betty told her mother that they needed to leave.

Sadness was designed all over her mother's face but she couldn't explain why and for what reasons.

The hospital was the last place she wanted to remained in so they left and boarded a cab to their home.

It was a nice ride all through as she couldn't stop looking outside the window and admiring everything that she saw on the streets as though it was her first time visiting that city.

"I can't wait to be home and in my bed", She imagined.

The long ride was finally over as the cab left them in front of their house. She couldn't wait to get in.

The entrance of the house was decorated with natural flowers planted on both sides and a clean environment surround it.

It was a small house made out of nice wood walls painted ok lemon green with a touch of cream-white color going across it.

The Little garden by the corner of the house served as a means of growing vegetables like tomatoes, carrots, peas, and many other instant consumption veggies.

Her mother was the person taking care of that as she was a lover of freshly cut vegetables from the field.

They were three in the number living in that little house that was built by her father when he was alive from his little savings as a security man from a big company he was working at the time before taking his untimely retirement.

She recalled all these little details that she had considered as non-important but was remembered as she had seen death and back.

She smelled the sweet smell wondering in the air and the aroma of the breeze was blowing from the bread factory that was in their neighborhood.

Her neighbors came out in their numbers to welcome her back home as they had heard and seen what had happened to her at her workplace ok Television.

Bethany was a very sociable person and she was loved by her neighbors given the fact that she had grown all her life there.

The people of Yorkfield we're good people no doubt about that.

Bethany thanked them and took their gifts and they all went inside.

" Surprise", everyone said clapping.

Bethany was tongue-tight by the love her family and neighbors were showing her. She burst into hot tears out of joy and recognition as she embraced them with so much gratitude.

She couldn't stop crying and her mother too.

"Thank you mom, thank you everyone", she screamed out.

The house was filled with joy and happiness while the party continued.

Duke had left for his residence to check on his mother to see how she was doing.

He entered his house and asked the maid where she was and he was told that she was still in her room.

He took the stairs in direction of his mom's room.

He was finally in front of his mother's room and he stood in front of the big broad door contemplating whether or not to knock on it as he will be putting himself in harm's way.

The past few weeks haven't been rosy between him and his mother because he refused to get married to her best friend's daughter.

This alone has been the reason why he has been dodging her and also running away from the house lately.

Each time he raised his hand bringing it to the door, he only ended up pushing it to the nothing side sighing like a child that had no choice but to accept failure.

" Come on man, nothing can be as bad as reaching in front of your mom's door and not knowing. Be a man ", he murmured to himself.

All this reluctance was because he knew how getting in there to meet his mom will end, but he had to check on her because, despite all the quarrels and fights, he still loves his much very much.

Duke finally mustered the courage to knock on his mother's door and she asked who was at her door and he responded that it was her favorite soon.

It took some seconds before his mother opened the door throwing a repulsive glimpse at him.

" Don't be like this mom", he said to his mom.

His mother turned and went inside her room and sat down on her bed. When she noticed that he was still standing at the door she asked in a rambunctious voice,

"Do you need a demo to enter my room?".

He immediately entered smiling as though he had been forgiven of his sins.

" How are you this morning Mother?", he asked taking a seat.

"I am fine as you can see my dear son", she answered.

He smiled at her and asked if she had taken her medications for the day and if she needed anything else or cared for a little outing later in the evening.

" No Duke I will be meeting up with my friend and yes Mary gives me my medications at the prescribed time", She responded coldly.

Duke was happy to know that his mother was respecting the doctors' prescriptions and she was taking care of herself too.

He got up kissed his mother's head and told her how much he loves and cherishes her.

He tightened his fingers while crossed so that he won't be bombarded with an unpleasant question as he was about leaving the room.

However, his prayers haven't been answered an ad he was called back by his mother just as he was about to finish the door line.

"Duke?", his mother called out.

Sweat ran down his face as he stood still like a bag of salt decisive whether or not to go or to come back.

" Duke I called you", she insisted.

He turned slowly like a doll that was been regulated by remote control.

He managed to get his ass together and walk back into the room.

"Take your seat because we need to talk". His mother spoke with so much seriousness in her tone.

Duke was actually scared this will happen and there he was facing the inevitable.

He didn't like to be disobedient to his mother as that was the only family he had left but also, he felt like his mother sometimes used to take advantage of that fact.

With a long deep breath and moments of hesitation, his mother finally spoke out as calmly as she could as if she was talking to a youngster.

" Why don't you like Jacinta?", She inquired concerned about the situation.

Duke couldn't make out that name his mother just called but he didn't want to get into a fight with her so he had to look for a way to answer that question without necessarily letting her understand that he didn't know who Jacinta is.

"I can't really say for sure what I don't like about her mother", he responded biting the lower part of his right lip.

She looked at him as one in serious fellow and said,

" Are you aware of the fact that his mother is my best friend and that she is of the same social standing as us?", she let out.

Duke breathed in and he was now aware of the person his mother was talking about.

He couldn't even make out the name of that arrogant and spoiled brat his mother was forcing on him.

"Duke is I not conversing with someone who is right in front of me?", she asked a little bit violent this time around.

He knew that he had to answer her if he didn't want to be in problems.

" Mom I think I need more time to think. Moreover, our businesses are having some issues now and one of my hotels just got burnt some days back". He used that as an excuse.

That was an excuse yes because Duke's family had enough businesses to live till their 10th generation without working not even a day.

His father had established a lot of firms all over the world that yielded income without any stress.

"That is no excuse son and you know it. You are not a young boy anymore and you need a family of your own. I need a grandchild Duke". She grumbled in irritation.

" I understand mom and I will give you that satisfaction", he told her.

His phone began vibrating in his pocket so he took it out of his pocket to see the caller.

It was Henry his friend who was calling.

He knew that he could use it as an excuse to flee from the conversation at hand so he asked his mom to excuse him so that he could take the call.

Duke left his mother's room went out to take his friend's call and his mother knew fully that he wasn't going to come back to finish that conversation.

The party was finished and Bethany and her friend Eva had cleared up the table and were in the kitchen.

"I can help with the washing Betty just have some rest", she said.

Bethany was the stubborn type and she declined her friend's offer.

" I can do it, besides you need a helping hand washing all of these". She responded packing the remaining cups on the floor.

Bethany's mother walked into the kitchen and found her standing by the sink arranging the plates to be washed and she yelled out,

"What are you doing here young lady?".

" I want to help wash the dishes"

"Can you leave that for me and Eva?", she said dragging her by the hand.

" No mom I am very fine you are the person to have some rest". She said taking her mom out of the kitchen.

Eva watched her being so stubborn and she laughed and said,

" you are still as stubborn as always".

"You can say that again friend", Bethany responded and they both burst out laughing.

The plates were cleaned in some minutes and well arranged but Bethany noticed that her friend couldn't stop glaring at her and smiling.

She was wondering what was going on with her but she kept on looking at her and chuckling so she had to ask if there was something she wanted to say.

" Eva are you okay? what's the gaze for?". She inquired curiously.

Eva looked at the ceiling and pretended not to be looking at her friend and replied to her,

"I wasn't looking at you Betty, I was just thinking of something".

" What are you thinking about that is making you smile this much like someone who is in love", she asked.
