Chapter 3 Motherly Housekeeper

Dave did not know for how long he sat on the his kitchen stool, his body taut with anger and his heart plagued with different emotions, plotting how he would finally get his own pound of flesh- He would definitely show Lewis who the real boss was. He was ready to use every weapon in his arsenal to get back at Desmond Lewis. Desmond Lewis robbed him of the most important things in his life.

He felt her hand took the remote from him. She did not say a word, but switched off the television, and slipped behind him to get rid of the tension that strung his body so tight. Dave gradually allowed his muscle to relax; he threw his head back, enjoying her divine touch. Aunt always know how to make him feel better. "Huh! He grunted Thank you that was so good Aunt"

Cecilia had come in to make an early start, but was greeted by Dave s posture on the stool, his eyes unwavering from the interview going on the screen. She knew he wasn t engrossed in the interview but his attention was more on the man being interviewed; seeing Desmond Lewis, must have taken him back in time to a very dark place in his life.

She padded towards him, slipping her deft fingers on his shoulder; she massaged the tautness out his muscles. Cecilia had always found ways to make life easier or better for Dave and Daniela. Just like she did all those years, doing all within her power to help Jemima out of the prison, but all effort proved abortive; blame that on the malfunctioning system of governance, more so, when you have men like Desmond Lewis in Power and the fact that she was not particularly rich.

It was only unfortunate that before they could arrange for hearing, she lost the will to live and developed a chronic heart condition. She was taken to the hospital, and did not live long after that. But Cecilia was happy to see that she was fulfilled during her last days, seeing her children a few times more before succumbing to the cold hands of death…… Also unfortunate that Dave was not available on the day his mother gave up the ghost. Something he never forgave himself for.

"I m certain that your mama is proud of you" she said to him in comfort.

Cecilia smiled, he knew Dave like he was her own son. All the poor boy wanted than anything was to make his mum proud. He struggled a lot on the street to get to where he was and the thought of his mother in heaven smiling down at him, cheered him on to achieve the success he now bagged.

"Ok, Aunt I will leave you to your work."

"Alright" She watched him disappear into his study, probably to regain his composure in private. Cecilia knew that that Bimbo of a club girl must be in his room upstairs for him to opt for the study room instead of his bedroom. She wondered why Dave will not settle down and marry a good girl instead of carrying all those club girls all around town. God knows he deserved a good and comely girl that will stand by him, giving everything the boy had to endure in life.

Cecilia had promised one thing, never to try and take the place of Jemima but to do everything in her power to make life easier for both of them. Maybe as part of a way to assuage her guilt for the role she played in how their lives turned out, or just out of the goodness of her heart. She would guide and advise when needed or solicited but she would never put herself in the place of his mother, which was why she turned blind eyes on his romantic life. She might choose to call it her own tribute to a worthy mother, who could never be replaced by anyone.

She remembered how several times Jemima would come begging her to borrow her money to feed her children because Aaron had spent all she saved on booze and women. She had cried to her one day telling her how tired she was but she did not want to leave without having plans to give her children a better life than what they are currently experiencing. It was unfortunate that before she could execute those plans of hers, death came in knocking.

Cecilia dabbed at her misty eyes. Dave puts the strong boy front, but she knew he was the most sensitive person and that he was deeply hurting, even more so than his younger sister. And Cecilia knew that would never show his vulnerability to anyone. She stood up, smiling ruefully, and started on her work for the day. She enjoyed taking care of Dave and his sister especially when she was not privileged to have a child of her own. He invited her in, when he first bought the mansion a few years back. But she had given him the condition that she would move in with him, if he would allow her to be his house keeper. Dave found the idea preposterous but she had sternly told him that was the only condition she was moving in with him. He had reluctantly agreed. And here they were. She dreaded the day that Dave would find out the role she played in making their lives miserable. She could only hope the secret will follow her to her grave.
