Sit and Look Pretty
Hunnie Inzotta
Dreading my return back to The Academy.
The effort to try and persuade my friends to go out for drinks at the nearby pub across the way had failed.
Carney had to attend the awards for The Vampire community.
She would be getting an award this year for helping her parents create another way for Vampires to drink blood from plants and insects.
"You deserve this award Carney. You and your parents are phenomenal!" I congratulated her on our way up to the 3rd floor.
Carney was outstanding with her beliefs and a superb scientist like her parents.
We all took seats in the magical auditorium, finding other vampires we attended human school with and began chatting right away. I was nervous I would be spotted by Bahm and Kris somewhere amongst the crowds, but quickly I calmed my nerves, reassuring myself they wouldn't be here anyways.
"Welcome all to the annual Vampire recognition for both the Night Walkers and the Day Walkers."
A humbled and well dressed being stood on the stage to make the announcement, wearing a black suit and tie.
"That's The Lead General for our species." Carney whispers over to us with eyes glued to the stage hovering above ground.
We all sat in our seats patiently, even after an hour goes by, watching beings walk across the stage to be recognized for their hard efforts.
The auditorium was now fully packed with thousands of seats filled with cheering relatives and friends.
Carney finally gets called on the stage for her heroic acts on finding a different source and way for their species to live peacefully.
"Most heroic efforts to provide our community with hope of living peacefully without human blood, will be awarded to the young Carney Saffan. The only daughter to our communities Scientist, Velera and Anton Saffan!"
Carney finally gets called on the stage for her heroic acts on finding a different source and way for The Vampire species to live peacefully.
We all began clapping happily for our friend as we stand out of our seats swiftly.
As soon as the ceremony was over, I stayed behind and said my goodbyes to fellow classmates before meeting the ladies outside the auditorium.
When I peel out the large double doors, I don't see the ladies right away, so I stepped out onto the busy hall and began making my way passed crowds of beings taking pictures with their awards.
"Hey!
I found her!"
A man's deep voice say enthusiastically.
The voice made the hairs on my body stand instantly, sending deep penetrating shivers down my spine and core.
That couldn't be...
I just had to look in the direction!
I turn around slowly, taking in this tall walking figure sending the biggest smile I'd ever seen in my direction. Hair long and curly, covering his eyebrows, and his killer, pearly, white smile, bringing fourth a look of fulfillment to his face. Arm muscles prodding like no other under the white leather jacket he wore.
My body was trembling in anticipation and my mouth hung opened slightly, but then I noticed as he got closer, he was walking right passed me, linking hands with a red haired woman behind me.
A guttural, dry and hoarse gasp leaves my mouth.
Bahm!
I was one hundred percent sure of this.
The walk, his voice, the hair was a little bit longer, but I was certain it was my mate.
My mate that walks right by me...
A sting reaches the pits of my heart and the corner of my eyes.
He turns around, glancing at me less than a second later, but the red haired woman begins speaking to him, diverting his attention away.
I looked into those green eyes desperately within that second. Bahm...it's me.
What's...Whats going on?
"Did you find her?" Another voice yells out through the halls. I knew this second voice for sure.
I looked behind me quickly to see Kris walking towards my direction, who was now passing me with an evil sinister glare.
A heart breaking sob leaves my mouth accidentally and Kris's expression becomes very nervous as he power walked towards Bahm.
Bahm turns around again, eyeing me and Kris immediately throws his arms around Bahm's shoulder, proceeding to take his attention off of me visibly crying.
How could they...
Is this really my punishment...
My vision becomes blurry as I watch my mates continue to walk down the hall that woman hands as if they're a couple.
Memories of Bahm trying to make me jealous by sleeping with this woman before, came to play.
I began thinking to myself, "If only I hadn't rejected Bahm the first time, then he wouldn't of even marked Azalea and we wouldn't be here," it hurt so much. Why does he ignore me?
It's all my fault.
Wandering eyes in the hall were wackily catching my attention, and I quickly walk towards the opposite way, taking a flight of stairs down to the main floor of the academy.
I was fully crushed and couldn't stop thinking about how Bahm didn't even acknowledge me one bit.
Is this really happening? Is he that upset?
I'm sorry Bahm.
I wipe my face clean. I was starting to develop a pretty nasty migraine now and feeling incredibly sick!
"Is everything alright?" Tenn asked as I met them outside.
"Did someone say something again?" Carney speaks up too, while Lenah tucked my hairs behind my ears.
"No....I'm fine. I feel a bit sick though, so I'm going back home. Sorry you guys." My head lowers guilty, trying to hold back how queasy and shattered I was.
.
"Awe ok love, we will see you tomorrow."
I walked away, trying to look for any open portal near the location of my house. I didn't have any energy after experiencing what I just witnessed.
When I wondered all through the sidewalks outside the Academy gates, I gave up, in fear I would run into Kris and Bahm somehow.
I looked down at my attire, my skin and even touching my hair.
"I wasn't appealing anymore," I thought.
No wonder they could easily walk past me the way they did and pretend not to know me.
Insecurity and jealously flooded my body entirely.
After deciding to chug the bitter Witchy Espresso and use most of my caffeinated energy to open a portal outside my little yellow house, I push opened the gates to my white picket fence, walking aimlessly to the front door.
Upon opening, I kicked my shoes off in the small door way that led to my living room. I dropped my belongings on the carpet once my feet touches and head for the kitchen.
I couldn't believe how much has happened in just two days time.
Oh how my heart was crushed, ready to explode at any given moment
"I don't...
I don't... want to be cloaked."
I sobbed in my palms.
A nauseating feeling begins eating at the bottom of my throat, causing excessive saliva to pool inside my mouth. I quickly run over to the bathroom with my mouth covered and gagging.
All the lunch I ate earlier came back up.
I slide my lips across my arms and my body crumbled to the ground, clutching my stomach before I passed out right on the floor.
When I woke, I received a bunch of texts from the girls begging me to respond when I awake, seeing if I was feeling better enough to still come out for drinks.
I didn't feel sick anymore, more sympathetic from cancelling earlier.
I replied to their texts while walking over to my kitchen and retrieving a bottle of vodka I kept above the sink. Anger was beginning to consume my judgment.
With a twist of the cap, I poured a small portion into my mouth, swallowing the disgusting warm liquid harshly.
"Be there in 30 minutes babe!
We are so happy you feel better!"
Tennita shoots me a quick phone call after receiving my answer. I didn't necessarily, "feel better," but mostly going out to not replay what I seen today.
After pacing back and fourth in my room, debating if I should really do this or not, I finally freshened up and got dress pretty quickly. Wearing a long-sleeved, flimsy, green dress that landed just above my knees, with a black jean jacket and long black boots. I pulled my curly blonde and brown hair into a short ponytail and made it just on time to meet the ladies outside.
"So Hunnie, instead of the bar, we are going to check out this new club!"
Tenn says and the girls begin to holler in the backseat while handing me a beer.
"Ok...
That's fine." I said with a smile and toasted my beer with Carney and Lenah. They were already drinking I could see.
We arrived to a loud and over crowded club where we all mainly hung around the bar, receiving flirtatious invites and enjoying ourselves a little too much.
"Just sit and look pretty ladies, sit and look pretty."
A blue haired bartender with deep dimple kept telling us, as she made the drinks the men around us were buying.
The rest of that night was a blur for me.
We all got home safely thanks to Tenn, but that didn't stop the major hangover the next day.
It was a much rather needed night out and even better, that I couldn't remember how bad I must've been.
