Chapter four

Immediately we arrived at the hospital, the ward boys rushed Khalil to the oncology ward and I was told to fill out the form.

Once I filled out the form I stood outside Khalil’s hospital room

I just hope Khalil will be fine, he is the only one I have in this world, if anything happens to Khalil I won’t spare Noor.

She must have done something to Khalil no wonder she refused to help him. How can she be so heartless I mean Khalil is just fourteen years. Oh lord, please don’t let anything happen to Khalil.

"Oh lord, please don’t let anything happen to Khalil," I whimpered

Soon the doctor walked out of the room, I wiped my tears as I approached the doctor.

"How is he?" I asked

"Your brother is fine, but I suggest you let him stay in the hospital for a couple of days because his condition is getting worse and he hasn’t been eating healthy food"

"Okay doctor, I can see him now?"

"Yes you can but before you do that, I have prescribed some medicines for him that are more likely to help him endure his pain"

"Okay, thank you."

"You can pay the bills at the reception and collect the medicines" He said before he walked away

I don’t think I have enough money to pay the bills, buy the medicines and also get a wheelchair for Khalil. This is one of the cheapest hospital in town or should I say is the most cheapest, the doctors working here aren’t exactly professional I have heard so many rumors about how unprofessional the doctors can be, a lady once said that her brother was diagnosed with a heart disease here but after she took him to a standard hospital the doctors there said otherwise.

I let out a breath and wiped my tears before I entered Khalil’s room.

"Afraah," he said in a pale tone.

"Khalil, I was so scared," I said as I sat on a stool next to his bed

"What did the doctor say?"

Khalil always asks me what the doctor said anything we visit the hospital either for checkups or situations like this.

"He said you need to stay in the hospital for a couple of days and he prescribed new medicines for you"

“New medicines, won’t that be extremely expensive" He mumbled

"What did you say?”

"Nothing, have you paid the bills?"

"I wanted to see you before I pay," I smiled.

"I’m fine you should go pay”

"Are you chasing me away?"

He was about to talk when I interrupted him "Khalil did you argue with Noor while I was away?"

"Assistant devil" He said after he giggled

"Sorry, sorry"

She is definitely deserves to be called an assistant to the devil, after what she did, she deserves to be called several names.

"Khalil, what happened between you and her?"

"I don’t wanna talk about her."

"Khalil what happened between you two" I asked again. He was about to speak when the nurse came in and interrupted

"Ma'am, can I please talk to you for a minute?"

"I will be right back," I said to Khalil before leaving the ward

Once we stood outside the ward, the nurse spoke "Ma’am you need to pay for the medicines and bed space before we can give him the medicine"

"Okay I will go pay," I said as the nurse walked with me to the reception

When the receptionist gave me the bill, I was shocked, I didn’t expect it to be that expensive. "Can’t I pay later?" I asked

“I’m sorry ma’am but you have to pay now as the doctor wasn’t supposed to attend to your brother before your payment."

"Oh okay. Let me just make a call, I will get back to you"

"Okay ma’am."

I have no idea who to call or who to ask for money, my stepmom might not even answer my call as she knows I will only call her in the hospital when I need money. I think I should just call her, what’s the worse that can happened. I dialed her number and it rang for a while but no one responded.

I’m not surprised. I tried calling her again and this time she picked up the call

"Hello, Aunt Sabina " I said almost immediately as she answered the phone

"Why did you call?"

“Aunt Sabina, the doctor prescribed a new medicine for Khalil and I don’t have enough money to pay"

“Hello! Aunt Sabina are you there" I said before realizing she hanged up the call

I sighed as I sat on a waiting chair thinking of who to call. Amal, she will help me. I dialed her number and she picked up on the third ring

"Amal" I said

“Yes Afraah." She responded in a sleepy voice

“Amal I need your help, something has come up."

“Are you okay? Is Khalil fine?" She instantly asked

"Yes I’m fine and Khalil is fine as well but I need money to buy his medicine, can you please send me some money I promise to pay you back as early as possible."

"Come on Afraah you don’t have to explain everything to me, I will send you the money just take care of yourself"

"Thank you"

After Amal sent the money, I used all my savings to complete the payment.

"Thank you, ma’am," The receptionist said after I paid

I was about to go back to the ward when I saw the guy that bought doughnuts and coffee earlier at the bakery.

Is he stalking me? Why will he even stalk me? What am I thinking about? Maybe he works here.

As he walked through the hallway, I kept thinking about how it is weird for us to be at the same place three times a day.

He walked passed me without saying a word it was like he didn’t even know I was there.

I went back to the ward but Khalil was already asleep, I looked at him, he looked so peaceful, I wonder why Noor has a problem with him.

I set an alarm on my phone before I lay on the couch next to his bed.

THRID PERSON POINT OF VIEW

He was driving back home when he got a call from Abdul

"Hello"

"Sami! Come to the general hospital" He panicked

"What happened to Sami? Is he okay? He asked

"Abdul! Abdul" He said before he realized the call has ended.

He quickly rushed to the hospital, he almost slipped as he got to the reception

"Faiz Sami Hassan,"

"He’s in at the Emergency room" The receptionist said

He hurried to the emergency room, He had lost many people in his life, he can’t afford to lose him, it’s all his fault if he had done as Abu said he would have been fine.

"What happened to him?" He asked Abdul immediately after he got there

"I don’t know but his condition is getting worse"

"Why did you bring him to this hospital, there are other hospitals why here?"

"I had no choice, this was the only nearby hospital, and don’t worry I got the best doctor in the hospital for him"

"He will be alright." He said trying to comfort himself.

He didn’t realize when he lost balance and fell on the floor

"This is all my fault, if anything happens to him I won’t be able to forgive myself." He muttered

"Pull yourself together, the doctor won’t let anything happen to him,” Abdul said trying to comfort him

"Mr. Abdul," The doctor said almost immediately as he came out of the room

"You have to look for a donor soon because your brother's condition is getting worse and I’m afraid if he has an attack again we might not be able to help him"

"Please doctor, don’t lose hope you are the best doctor in town I’m sure you can do something," He said

"I’m sorry but I can’t if you don’t get him a donor soon"

"If you had obeyed me and done exactly as I told you to do this situation won’t have occurred," Abu yelled as he walked through the hallway

"I’m sorry Abu (father) I didn’t mean for this to happen"

"It's been two weeks now since the doctor told us about him, why haven’t you gotten her to sign the contract already" He yelled

"I didn’t get the chance to talk to her”

"You are a man, not a child why can’t you act like one"

He was about to talk when Abu raised his hand indicating him to keep quiet

"I’m sorry Abu," he said as he wiped his tears

He was about to leave the hospital when he saw her at the reception

"I hope everything is alright," He mumbled
