Chapter 5
Diana's POV
Stepping out of the coffee shop with my everyday chocolatè coffee and my airpods in my ear, I listened to my favourite westlife song as I walked further to cross the road.
It was the holiday in Clifield University and asides my stressful jobs at evening, I finally had time to focus on myself.
"Shittttt" I screamed in terror as the car infront of me halted to a stop, almost knocking me down.
"WHAT WERE YOU THINKING! WHY ARE YOU ABSENT MINDED YOUNG LADY?" a loud angry voice from the car scolded me.
"Diana? you're the one?" the young man said with a calm voice as he came out of his car.
I turned back in amazement, to see Sylvester, Branden's younger brother standing in front of me.
How embarrassing!
Shit. What came over me. I tried calming my erratic heart beat and I nodded to greet him as he took a step closer to check if I was hurt.
"Are you alright? Come inside let me give you a lift, we have so much to talk about. Let me take you home ok" he offeredas he tried directing me into the right front seat of his car.
Are they all this friendly in their family or there's something particularly making them nice to me. He seemed taller than his brother but less muscular.
"I'm alright thank you." I said declining his offer to give me a ride.
"I insist" his words and tone seemed like he was of no harm.
"Okay" making my way into car, I sat quietly as he shot the door mildly against me and went round to get into the driver's seat.
In a split second, he ignited the engine and zoomed off.
"Since you're my brother's friend you're automatically my friend, so tell me about yourself, where do you stay, where are you from......"
It was difficult to keep up with the numerous questions he was asking.
"I'm from Georgia and I stay two blocks away from here. I'm 23, a medical student in Clifield University"
"Oh yes, Branden said you go to Clifield and you're a medical student, that's really nice. I see us working together in the future" he said,a wide smile forming on his lips.
"What about your parents and your siblings?"
"I lost both my parents in a car accident when I was 12, and I lost my grandma as well 5 years ago. I have only one sibling and she's 18" I voiced out in reply.
"I'm so sorry to hear that, so where is your sister now?"
"she's at home" my words short and abrupt, trying to avoid more questioning
"And your boyfriend? or is Branden your boyfriend?" he said with a smirk up his lips.
Wait, what? what makes him think I'm dating Branden?
We don't even see that much, this would be the first time I'm coming over to his house.
"Branden isn't my boyfriend, he is just a friend" I said hiding the discomfort in my voice as I adjusted to feel more comfortable.
"Or don't you want to have a boyfriend?" he prod further. His question made me even more uncomfortable. I read an awkward meaning to his question.
"I live here" I said with the words leaving my mouth before my brain could process them.
He halted the car to a stop and gave me a weird stare.
"Can I have your number?" he asked as I collected the phone he was handing over to me.
I was tempted to ask Sylvester about Braden's past relationship or present one but I was avoiding the awkward questioning and I wanted to go as far away as possible because of his flirty eyes and discomforting questions.
I opened the car, thanked him and walked into my apartment as he drove off.
It was a rather cold evening.
After working hours I came home to cool off the already weakened bones that was overworked due to the numerous requests from customers.
A mild knock was heard on the door.
I walked to the door to see who was there and my orbs fell on those of my bestfriend.
It was Evelyn with a shopping bag in her hand that read 'FENDI'
"Heyy" we both said as we hugged.
"Guess who this is for?" she asked, making her way into the house and seating on the parlour couch.
"You went shopping for me?" I questioned in excitement with my smile broadening.
"I bought it for us" she said sarcastically as I leaned forward to hug her.
"You didn't have to"
"Well I've always wanted to dress you up for a date, and I knew this day was going to come but not like this though" she said, placing my hand inside the shopping bag.
It's a black short dress with net designed sleeves. It's very beautiful, I was impressed at her dress preferences.
She always had a good eye for stunning fashion outfits.
I can only imagine how wowed Branden would be when he sees me on a beautiful dress like this.
I was always the type to dress casual but not on occasions like this, I had to make sure I looked my best and dazzle everyone that set their eyes on me.
It was just one day left to the dinner date.
I was so excited to visit Branden, I already played out the happening of the date in my head. The exact words I was going to say and the exact words I was going to hear him say and then I visualized a scene in my head where he held me by the waist and leaned further to kiss me. I found myself giggling at the thoughts of what I would love to see on that day.
"Thank you so much Evelyn I love this, you're the best" as we both smiled at each other.
It was 11pm at night when my phone rang.
"Hello" I picked up the phone, irrespective of the fact that I didn't know who the caller was.
"It's me Sylvester" at the mention of that name my drowsiness died immediately, making me less sleepy and more conscious.
"Hi" I said, confused as I stood upright on my bed, wondering why he phoned me late at night.
What could be his reason for calling?
"How are you? I hope you're okay. I wanted to ask you if you would like to go get icecream or something on Friday evening by 7" he inquired, his request putting me in shock.
How do I turn this down? How can I go out with him when I was already going to see Branden that same day in the next hour? I would definitely pick going over to Branden because I liked him and not Sylvester.
"Uhmm I'm really sorry I'll be busy, maybe some other time I'll talk to you later" I said as I quickly hanged up, giving him no time to reply.
I have my suspicions that Sylvester might like me but I was definitely not interested in him, I only had eyes for Branden.
I laid down on my bed as I closed my eye, trying to shrug off the thoughts of Sylvester asking me to go out with him. I switched off my phone and finally slept.
