Just a girl growing wings!!…

The story begins not where the knife enters but where the blade twists!!...

Proserpina

The woman rushed me towards the courtyard and pushed me. Before I hit the floor, someone caught me.

“Mira!” I cried in happiness. I was destined to rot in this hell, whereas she was chosen to rot. Sigurd, the royal guard, had picked up twenty girls. I was to be the queen consort of Princes. The other girls were to accompany me.

“Did you practise the moves I taught you last time?” Mira asked. Her little brown eyes complimented her beautiful brown curls. She aced in sword fighting and self-defence moves. She taught me a good deal of those, for she believed they might come in handy to ‘kick your vampy mates’ asses’.

“AHHH!” I screamed when something pierced my elbow.

“Pretty princess!” The taunting voice was of Justina-the bitch.

“Not again!” I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

“What did you say?” She hissed, and I knew I was in big trouble now.

“I am sick of you. Do you think you can scare me?!” I said, closing in the distance. The shock on her face was almost laughable, and I might have if my heart hadn’t been racing.

“I will make your life worse than the sewer roaches, and you know why? Because your sick King uncle wanted a bunch of pussies to follow you like slaves while you fuck your princes. You are the reason our parents got killed, and we’re painted like whores and trapped like prisoners.”

“Say one more word, and I swear you will regret it! Do you think I’m enjoying this? My parents also got killed; I’m painted and trapped in a cage. You all have each other, but I’m all alone! Fighting alone! Crying alone!” I screamed in pain. Mira turned to Justina and her gang with a deadly glare.

“Leave her alone, you ugly bitches,” Mira hissed like they were some annoying pests.

“Let’s go,” I grabbed Mira’s hand and took her away.

“Is everything okay?” She asked. I nodded and looked around to make sure Justina was listening.

“We have to escape,” I said, and Mira looked at me as if I had grown three heads.

“That’s… that’s impossible.” she retorted.

“I have a plan.”

I narrated my plan.

“I’m unsure if this will work, but let’s try. If they catch us, what worse can they do to us than they are already not doing?” Mira’s support intensified my confidence.

“Food!” A weird-looking maid shouted, with a permanent frown on her face. We all lined up, grabbing the plates.

Justina was already on my face when I was out of the line with food. ‘Can she be any more annoying?’ I thought to myself.

“The princess has grown wings.” Her irritating smirk was hitting my limits. She wanted the drama, but I didn’t, so I passed on my plate to her and queued up for food again, ignoring the weird looks of the maid. Again, I was out with the plate of food, and Justina was out there splaying her hands like a beggar.

“Justina! Get lost!” Mira snarled.

“Of course! A poor princess deserves pity. I am not so cold-hearted…trust me…I cried on hearing her sappy story. So, heart-wrenching!” Justina was crossing her limits. She hit the last straw when she deliberately pushed my plate, spilling away all the food on the floor. She crushed the spilt food with her bare feet and then said, ‘Oops,’ blinking her eyes and pretending to be sorry. It triggered the shit out of me, and now I just wanted to rip her head off.

“You want food? Eat food!” I said, pulling my fisted hand back and hitting it straight on her face. Her nose crumpled beneath my knuckles, and she fell backwards and crashed to the floor. The blood oozed out of her nose. “You broke my nose! I’m going to kill you!” She shouted with her face full of rage. She held a fist full of my hair, ducking me down. She hit her knee on my face. Then she forced me to my feet, grabbed my wrist, and twisted it, making me scream in pain. She tugs my hair and smacks it on the counter, splashing the food around.

“You wanna eat food!” She screamed right into my ears.

“Stop it!” The maid tried to intervene. Justina loosened one of her hands from me, pushed away that maid, and warned her, “Stay away, you weirdo, or you’re the next!”

Someone grabbed my hair, trying to assault me from another side. It was Ira, Justina’s sidekick. But Mira leapt on her and pushed her away from me, hitting her square in the face.

Soon, the guards were on us, struggling to separate Justina’s fists tangled in my hair. Her lower face was bloodied now, whereas Ira’s left lip was torn. Mira had a swollen eye. My whole face was bloodied, with a few scratches on my arms and legs.

We all were handcuffed and taken away to the dungeon. Mira and I were put in the cell opposite Justina and Ira so that we don’t kill each other. But that didn’t stop us from giving killer looks. A guard was observing us.

Once he was out of earshot, Justina spat out the blood to speak to me, “I saw what you did there, Princess! You will pay with blood.”

“As if you didn’t hit her? What else can be expected from jealous bitches like you?” Mira snarled at her.

“Shut up!” Justina growled at Mira and then focused on me, “Now, what’s the second part of the plan?”

I took a sharp breath, probably nervous that she may not like the plan.

“Speak, Princess! We haven’t got the whole day.” Justina was losing her patience.

“Okay, we need the guard to come close enough to get the keys out of his pocket.”

“Leave that to us,” Justina said, smirking at Ira. Ira got up and took position facing the guard, looking intentively at him as if he was some eye candy. She started playing with her top, stretching it lower to seduce him. Within the next second, the guard was almost at Ira. She grabbed him by his collar and pulled him closer. Mira and I took the position to play our part. At the count of three, Ira pushed the guard towards our cell, and Mira was quick enough to catch him by the throat, locking him to constrict his moves. “Proserpina! Take out the keys!” Mira screamed. I fumbled as I searched his left pocket. “Shit! It’s in the right pocket!” I snapped, running over to the other side of Mira.

“Do it fast. I’m losing the grip,” Mira shouted. The guard subdued Mira, spinning quickly, grabbing Mira’s head and slamming it on the iron bars, making her nose burst. I jumped up with the keys in my hand. The guard holds my wrist, twisting it at an unnatural angle, making me scream in pain. He was about to break my bone, but Mira embedded a blade at the side of his neck. I kicked out his knees, and he went down hard on the floor.

“Quick!” Justina shouted as we heard the rush of footsteps. I opened our cell and then freed Justina and Ira.

“The stairs to the basement will lead to the secret tunnel to the dark woods. An escape route,” Justina spoke as we all rushed out. Once we were out of the dungeon, a siren was blowing, probably sending signals. An army of about a hundred soldiers and a few vampires were rushing.

“What do we do now?” I asked in a panic.

“I think something happened in the arena; they all are rushing over there,” Mira said, realizing that the army wasn’t even aware of our escape.

Justina and Ira ran in the opposite direction.

“Where are you both going? Aren’t you coming with us?” I asked.

“We have some other plans, Princess. But don’t worry. We’ll meet again as sworn enemies.” She smirked, and they disappeared into the dark passage.

A guard attacked Mira, engaging her in a fight. I was standing defenceless when someone put a sword at my neck. He was the guard who misbehaved with me in the golden cage.

“Are you lost, Princess?” He spoke with a devilish voice. He held my neck tightly, coming closer and sneered, “I want to crush you like the damned rose petals!”

I instinctively kicked his groin, and he dropped to his knees and fell forward, hunched over in pain. Still, that moron got hold of my foot and yanked it hard, making me skid along the floor. But I quickly gathered my footing and ran in the opposite direction.

“Let’s see how fast you run!” His voice was booming around the mazes of passage. He was following me like a ghost in some haunted mansion, with a burst of evil laughter plastering his face.

“Now, let’s see if the pretty little princess gets saved by her saviour prince or eaten by a monster devil?” The guard was lost in the madness.

And then, a strange sensation crept up my spine when a breathtaking scent invaded my senses. I bumped into someone, and my hands reached up instinctively, landing against a solid wall of muscle.

A mystery man!

He wore all black, with a long cloak strapped to his chest. He turned, but a booby trap came into his shoe, and he was hanging upside down with his eyes penetrating mine.

*Intense yellow eyes, Glowing like hellfire!

Haunting, yet beautiful!*

Those eyes reminded me of the wolf-man of my dreams. They narrowed at me as if I intrigued him incredibly. I was still drowned in his eyes, and that was when that stupid guard cornered me.

“What about I play first and then kill you?” The guard spoke, giving me a dirty look and a tight slap. I pulled out the magical dagger from the folds of my dress.

“Wrong move; free me instead,” The stranger warned me. His voice was as deep as his enigmatic eyes. I was unsure if I should trust him.

Never trust a man, unless he is hot!!...
