Chapter 6: His Sickness

Hours later, Lendon went to the dining hall. After he sat down, he suddenly kicked the table and shouted, "What are these? They look gross!"

"I will let them prepare new food now, My Lord." Curtis hurriedly cleaned the floor and said.

Annoyed, Lendon growled and said impatiently, "No need. Just fire them all." He stood up and left. When he passed the living room, he saw the huge monitor playing Kendra's face.

Kendra fell on the ground weakly, and there were frosts on her face. She looked like an injured angel. Lendon noticed that Kendra's tears rolled out from her eyes. He suddenly felt heartbroken. Damn! What was wrong with him? Why does this woman cause him sadness?

"Curtis!"

"My Lord,"

"How long has she been in the icehouse?" Lendon asked coldly.

Drooping his head, Curtis answered, "It has been 5 hours," He could always understand his Lord's temper.

Lendon stared at the huge screen and somehow felt furious.

"My Lord, I am afraid that Miss Miller can't hold on anymore. I know you're eager to know if she was the girl who broke into a castle that night. If she dies, you will never find it out." Curtis said carefully.

"I know!" Lendon glanced at Curtis and left. But soon, he stopped and said, "Let her out. If she dies, you need to take responsibility."

Curtis didn't answer and quickly paced outside.

An hour later, Kendra finally felt warmer. She started coughing and woke up gradually. When she opened her eyes, she saw a bright crystal light above her.

"Miss Miller, you finally woke up." A man's voice caught her ears.

Kendra looked around and saw Curtis and Alexis standing next to her.

"Do you feel better, Miss Miller?" Alexis smiled and asked.

Kendra shook her head and got angry. "Who are you, people? Why do you take me here and torture me savagely?" She yelled desperately.

"Please calm down, Miss Miller. We don't want to hurt you. We just want to know the truth." Curtis explained softly.

"Truth?" Kendra rubbed her forehead and said, "I don't understand. What do you want from me? I said I had never met Lendon before. I wouldn't have a different answer even if you killed me." She hadn't adjusted to the normal temperature yet. Why did these strange people always ask her weird questions and do strange things to her?

Curtis and Alexis looked at each other and sighed.

"I want to go home." Kendra got up and said.

"Miss Miller, you can't leave now." Curtis stopped Kendra, begging, "You know Mr. Martin. If you piss him off, we are all done here."

"What does he want to do?" Kendra lost her temper and shouted again.

Suddenly, Lendon rushed into the room and lifted Kendra's body.

"Damn! How bold you are going against me!" Lendon shouted in anger.

"You son of bitch! Let me go! Let me go!" Kendra also shouted back.

"It seems 5 hours are not enough for you. You learned nothing from it." Lendon threw Kendra to bed and said, "Don't think I can't kill you!" He took a gun out and pointed at Kendra's forehead.

No one dared to say a word for a while as they were scared to provoke Lendon's temper.

"Mr. Martin, please calm down. Miss Miller doesn't mean to offend you." Alexis was hurriedly attempting to appease Lendon's anger after a while.

"My Lord, Miss Miller stayed at the icehouse for a long time. She hasn't totally sober up yet." Curtis helped Alexis to convince Lendon.

"She doesn't know who I am. I will let her know how wrong she was." Lendon sneered and said. He wanted to pull the trigger.

Kendra felt so scared and trembled.

"Mr. Martin, killing her won't help. I have an idea. We can try it out." Alexis grabbed Lendon's hands and said.

"Say it!"

"The moon will be full again in two days later. Let's see what will happen. If she can't help you, we can decide her fate then." Alexis suggested.

In his mind, Kendra broke into the castle on that full moon night. Lendon thought he could try it again. If Kendra could help him this time, she couldn't deny it anymore. He rubbed Kendra's face with his gun and said, "You'd better stay here, or I will make you suffer more. Feed her!"

Lendon left the room quickly.

Kendra lay on the bed and lost all her strength.

"Are you okay?" Alexis asked.

Kendra shook her head and said nothing. It was the first time for her to see a gun. She was so frightened.

Alexis knew Kendra must be terrified, so he comforted her, "It's okay. Lendon just wants to scare you. Take a break. We will know everything in two days later."

"What will happen in two days later?" Kendra asked helplessly.

"It's complicated. It's related to Lendon's sickness; only a few people knew about it." Alexis explained patiently.

"His sickness?" Kendra asked curiously. What kind of sickness could he have? Mania?

"Yes. Don't be afraid. If you are not the girl we are looking for, we will let you go." Alexis assured her.

Kendra felt so confused. Did Lendon really have mania? He did seem fierce and furious all the time. Kendra decided not to go against Lendon anymore. If he was pissed off again, he might really kill her! Therefore, for the next two days, Kendra just stayed in the room quietly and waited patiently.

Midnight came. Kendra had a nightmare and woke up suddenly. Her body got sweaty. In her dream, a man who looked like a wolf kept invading her body. The pain was so real that Kendra even doubted if it was just a dream or she really experienced it. However, Kendra didn't see the man's face clearly. She just remembered that his eyes were as green as a wolf's eyes. What the hell? Why did she have such a horrible dream?

Kendra took a deep breath and patted her face. "Wake up! It's just a dream, Kendra." She told herself. Later, she got up and wanted to find some water, but she found there was no water anymore in this room.

Kendra could only go out. She thought she wouldn't come across anyone except for servants at midnight. Lendon must be sleeping now. She walked out of her room and passed a long corridor. There were many famous paintings on the wall. Though Kendra didn't know much about art, she could easily tell that they were priceless. Damn duke! Kendra cursed Lendon in her mind. Suddenly, she saw some light coming out of a room. Who stayed up so late?

Kendra looked into the room and saw nobody, but she was attracted by a vast and luxurious wall of books.

"Wow! So many books!" Kendra felt excited. The books in this room were even more than the library of her school. It must be the book room inside this castle.

Kendra pushed the door and walked in slowly.

"Oh my god!" She stood in front of the book wall and sighed again.

Kendra glanced at the books and found they were all limited editions. Ordinary people couldn't afford them at all. Why did this castle have so many cherished books? Kendra climbed the wooden ladder curiously and found an interesting book. She opened it and started reading.

"What are you doing here?" A man asked suddenly.

Kendra was shocked and turned around immediately, but she forgot she was on a ladder, so she fell down suddenly.

"Ahhh!" A loud scream came out of her mouth.
