Chapter 5: Lies
I was ordered by Ryan to remain in the room and wait for him to return before he left the room. I didn't say anything since I wasn't in the mood to debate with him about my wish to go outside and explore the gardens. I mean, it's just so dull and monotonous here. This sort of environment is undoubtedly beautiful, but I am not the type to live in it with. When I saw him coming out of the room, I let out a sigh. In front of the near-full body mirror, I stamped my feet and glared at myself in the eyes. I had been staring at myself for far too long before I ever questioned myself, "Who are you?"
Then I chuckled and shook my head while clutching my forehead in amusement as I realized what I'd done was ridiculous. "I wish I could remember who I was," I said as I blew a breath and muttered. "I'm desperate to get well."
Ryan had commanded me to get to my feet, and I debated defiantly refusing. I walked a few steps closer to the door and opened it slowly to let the air in. I looked down the corridors from left to right, just to make sure that no one was looking and would catch me putting my feet on the pavement. Some members of the castle staff emerged in unexpected places, but I was able to conceal myself and avoid being discovered in the process. Once I'd confirmed that all of the halls were clear, I cautiously walked out of the building and closed the door as quietly as I possibly could. I'm concerned that the noise will reverberate throughout the hallways.
I made my way to the living room, where I had my shoes removed so that I wouldn't make a single sound while I was there. I must have looked like a criminal in this place, but who cares? That no one was present to stop me from doing what I was doing was a fortunate coincidence.
After some time had passed, I saw a pair of housemaids going by. As soon as one of them turned her head to look at me, I dashed behind this massive cabinet in the side corridor, where I remained hidden until the situation was resolved. I took a deep breath as I saw my breathing become more fast. In an attempt to relax myself, I pressed my chest against my rib cage.
Even though I was in hiding, I overheard them discussing the possibility of Katelyn and Ryan being in a relationship as boyfriend and girlfriend. By just listening to the tone of their voices as they chatted about them, the maids seemed to be happy. The moment I heard that some of them had said that Ryan should consider Katelyn as his Luna since they are both from well-known families and are suitable for each other, my chest hurt for no apparent reason, and I couldn't figure out why I was feeling this way.
I carefully put my head towards the edge of the cabinet to see whether they were still there. They weren't. After seeing that they had gone, I gently exited the vehicle and began walking down the road.
"Phew, that was a near capture," I whispered to myself, thinking that there was a strong probability that the maid had caught me in my disguise.
As I got closer to one of the castle's large rooms, the sounds of two persons became more audible in my ears after some time. I smiled as I cautiously opened the door to make sure I was in the proper spot before continuing. The voice of Ryan convinced me that he was, in fact, there in this room. In addition to the chandeliers hanging above the couch, its fascinating hues of scarlet and gold were shaking the whole space, like a royal bolt, as it shook the entire room. I could see Katelyn, who was practically facing the entrance, but I couldn't see Ryan since he was behind me.
"Why don't we look into the possibility of having an arranged marriage with me?" I overheard Katelyn asking the question with her severe, madam demeanor. After seeing her face, my eyes squinted as if she had never abandoned me in the middle of the wilderness.
"Marrying is not on my bucket list," Ryan told her in a casual manner.
Katelyn smiled, and her dimples were the winning factor. Despite the fact that her eyes shone, it was evident from her expression that she was desperate enough for what she desired. "You should rethink your decision," It was her flirty voice that answered; "I know you wouldn't let a chance like this pass you by."
I rolled my eyes as I heard her artificial grin for the first time. Katelyn drew closer to Ryan, and even though I couldn't see what she was doing, I could tell that she was desperately clutching his hand. "Look at me," she said in hushed tones, but Ryan didn't respond.
By that point, I had turned my gaze away and giggled. However, when I occurred to look back at them, my gaze and Katelyn's gaze coincided at the same time. I was paralyzed and couldn't move a muscle in my body. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't take my gaze away from her. "Oh my gosh!" I uttered it to myself, my hands covering my lips with my bare hands as I did.
I took a step back and closed my eyes tightly. When I opened the door, Katelyn glanced at me with her harsh gaze, insisting that Ryan rise up and sit a little farther away from them. With her elbows dragged down the floor, she forced a phony grin onto her face. "Come with me, and let us take advantage of this opportunity," Katelyn said with a grin.
"I've already told you that your desire will not be fulfilled," Ryan insisted the urge as he just sat down and did not move an inch to suggest that he was going to accompany her.
Katelyn gave me a sideways look and a smirking quiet before returning her attention to Ryan. I forced a grin on her face, trying to give the id+
a that what she had done to me the night before was not a big issue and that what I was seeing right now was also insignificant. Ryan seems to have seen that Katelyn usually looked to my side, which was at the door entry, and as a result, Ryan turned to look at me. He thought I was spying on them, but he didn't realize it either. I guess?
When our gazes locked, my pupils dilated. The moment he caught sight of me, his gloomy countenance was replaced with a gentle one. He pinched his brows in a puzzled expression other from that, however!
I worried as I straightened my back and realized I was about to flee back to his room. I was in the middle of it. I had taken a few steps back and turned my back away from the front entrance. Someone from behind me, however, grabbed my pulse just as I was going to walk away.
"W you're going?" Ryan was the one who inquired. I closed my eyes from behind him, not even daring to look him in the eyes at all. Oh my my, this is so humiliating!
"Ahm, how about you go back to your room?" I laughed.
"Face me," he instructed me. I couldn't stand the sound of his voice, so I had no option but to comply with his wishes. Just as the two of us were about to face one other, Katelyn sprang into the room from behind him. She looked at me from head to toe, her elbows crossed in front *-of her chest as she chewed the inside of her lower lip, her eyes were squinting like she was ready to eat me alive.
I noted that Katelyn had used her inner wolf abilities as she switched from her werewolf look to her human form in a split second before returning to her werewolf appearance, only to realize that she was most likely trying to provoke me.
For a split second, I looked her in the eyes before returning my attention to Ryan's anxious expression. "I-I'm sorry... I-I'm sorry... I had no intention of leaving your room and arriving here..." I apologized, placing my index and middle fingers together as I glanced down.
"Oh, wait, didn't I just hear her say that she came from your room?" Katelyn chimed in, asking a question in that loud, concerned voice of hers, and the conversation continued.
I was ready to respond to her and tell her that I had just woken up in that location when Ryan interrupted me just as I was about to say anything. I watched as he turned away from me and turned to face her. "She collapsed in the midst of the woods, and so when she became unconscious, I carried her into my room," he opted to answer.
As she looked at me, Katelyn took a big breath and smiled. She's undoubtedly aware of what she did to me the night before. Her pupils constricted as she considered if she was attempting to dissuade me from telling Ryan the truth. Walking closer to me, she pasted a grin onto her lips and inclined her head a little to the side. She suddenly burst into a dazzling grin, her face sparkling in the sunlight. It was not immediately clear to anybody who looked at her that she was capable of doing ridiculous deeds on her fellow werewolves like me.
Instead of fighting against it, I just returned her energy by smiling and nodded at her as if we were old friends. "Hey, it's great to see you again," Katelyn remarked, her dimples bursting out as she giggled. Then I caught a glimpse of Ryan, who was standing straight at the back of the room, gazing at me as if he were asking something just by speaking via our eyes.
I suppose it is not a pleasant move to expose what had truly occurred to me, so I should just go with the flow for the time being as long as Katelyn does not do something stupid to me right now. "It's great to see you again, too," I replied as I straightened my back and patted the side of her shoulders in response. "How are you doing?" I inquired in addition. I wanted to squeeze her cheeks from the back of my mind, so I snatched her hair and threw it on the ground.
Ms. Katelyn B. She drew her chin up and gave off the impression of having an angry expression via the windows of her eyes. "Well, it's been a fantastic night for us thus far. I'm sorry for not being able to catch up with you," she apologized as she went closer to my ears and whispered, "I got lost in the woods." What a liar you are! When she returned to the location where we had been, she looked at me as if she wanted me to believe her against my better judgment.
Tsk, that woman's face is really annoying to look at!
As I shrugged my shoulders and agreed with her, "It's all right," I groaned, thinking that I didn't want to ruin up everything that had gone so well up to this point, "Do you think you're okay? In light of the fact that you're lost in the woods, I was wondering whether there were any wild creatures out there trying to track you down?" I inquired, giving her the impression that I was persuaded by her assertion.
Before responding, she turned her gaze back to Ryan, who had been listening in on our chat. "Of course, I'm fine when I fought with them," she answered. "After all, I am a formidable werewolf. That bunch of wild creatures is nothing more than a peck of pet food in my garden," she bragged as she slid the strands of her hair that had fallen at her left shoulder off her shoulders.
Ryan interceded for the pair of us, and to our astonishment, he told Katelyn, "You're saying things that aren't accurate."
