Chapter 6

Elijah's POV

To me, Isabella was like the most dangerous and fascinating beast in the forest, making my heart beat wildly and uncontrollably.

My wolf Mason trolled in his head, "If your gaze had a temperature, she'd probably be on fire."

"The person that Oliver is talking about shouldn't be her. She's not weak, she's even strong." I whispered in my head.

But I didn't feel any easier, as if there was something I had overlooked.

"There's some truth to that, but don't forget what she was like when she met you." Mason reminded me. "Don't be in a hurry to jump to conclusions."

I was just about to retort, but then I suddenly locked eyes with Isabella.

At that moment, her originally aggressive eyes quickly became gentle.

Then she smiled and walked towards me and took my hand. It was as if she was announcing herself to the crowd.

"Luna!" The onlookers chanted.

She looked as if she fully accepted everyone's admiration instead of running away as she would have done at the beginning.

I was happy for her to do so and cooperated by raising her hand to show others that we were holding together. Immediately afterwards, I took her in my arms again.

"My clothes are dirty." She whined, but hugged me tighter.

"I really want to know how many more surprises you can bring me." I leaned in close to her ear.

"Wow!"

The onlookers obviously had no idea what I was saying to her, and just screamed like a cacophony. I thought my eardrums were about to burst from their noise.

Isabella's POV

Elijah leaned in and finished his sentence in my ear and picked me up.

It took me a little by surprise, but the screams around me made me feel even more embarrassed. I covered my red face and calmed myself down as much as I could.

"I really didn't expect her to have such strong battle power when she usually looks so weak!"

"It's great that we have such a Luna!"

"Look, our Alpha is carrying Luna back!"

Gosh, couldn't they stop saying that!

Elijah walked straight back with me in his arms like that. I buried my face in his shoulder, not daring to look up at all, just pretending they never saw me at all.

He closed the door and threw me on the bed. I looked at him innocently.

"After all the fighting today, it seems that you should be all healed up." He leaned down and looked at me seriously. "Before I took care of your body and didn't even use all my strength at all."

I felt my face burn like iron in a furnace and quickly opened my mouth to retort.

"You're obviously so good, how come you haven't done your best?"

His expression began to turn playful. I knew I had said the wrong thing and quickly covered my mouth.

"Honey, it's time for you to spell out what I'm awesome at?"

My face turned red, "You are not the same as Joanna said at all!"

Oh, graceful and heroic and as warm as the sun, which were all a bluff!

"Well, that's not so much the case." His smile looked a little sinister to me.

Then he suddenly came closer, so close that I could feel his burning breath.

"They are my people, and I have a duty and obligation to them. And you are my beloved, it is love and affection, naturally it is not the same."

I thought he had some sense, and even followed his way to think seriously about this matter.

And by the time I came back to my senses, he had me pinned down on the bed.

Elijah's handsome face was full of smiles, "You have no idea, when I saw your figure in the training ground, I wanted to give my valiant Luna a kiss."

His kisses made my body go limp and I just wanted to indulge in love with him.

The next morning, I felt as if my bones had been disassembled once and put back together again.

The large bruises on my body were a reminder of how outrageous the exercise we did last night was.

After leaving the bedroom, I met Joanna's eyes.

"You should still take care of your health, I'll talk to Alpha." Joanna's expression was obviously a bit torn. "He told me to tell you that he had an appointment with someone to go out first and told you not to worry."

"Ha, he's still a really energetic guy." I muttered in a small voice and retreated back into bed to lie down.

Was he actually all right?

Although my body hurt like hell, my heart felt like it was bathed in sunlight. I knew that although I came back from hell, the Moon Goddess really didn't treat me badly. She even compensated me with such a good mate.

"Knock, knock!"

I looked out the door with Joanna.

"Can I come in now?" The female voice at the door also sounded a bit lacking in breath.

"It's Maira, who challenged you yesterday," Joanna whispered in my ear. "If you don't want her to come in, I'll go and say no back for you."

I shook my head. I knew that for a fighter, the best way to convince her was to defeat her.

And I had already won, so she posed no threat to me.

Joanna pulled the door open and Maira cautiously walked in.

But I can guarantee that she still froze a little when she saw the marks on my neck.

"I'm very sorry, I shouldn't have thought of you that way. You're a respectable Luna." Maria quickly broke into a smile.

I knew that she was admitting that she had lost.

The injuries on her body had not completely disappeared, and she even looked a bit lousy.

I went up to her and shook her hand, "I'm glad to have your approval."

Maria laughed happily.

From this moment on, the two of us could be called as friends. This was the rule of warriors.

"Want to come and get something to eat together?" She asked with great sincerity.

I readily agreed with her.

Those rules that apply in the White Birch Pack don't exist here, and even I was infected by their joy. I would have liked to train with Maira, but the anxiety of being away from mate for so long still makes me uneasy.

Joanna had told me that this was normal at this stage of my life and that I needed to stay well rested. So I just dutifully went back to my house and continued to wait for Elijah's return.

But today it was clear I had waited too long. I combed my hair restlessly and simply sat down by the door.

Although he occasionally came back late before, but he was rarely like this. The more I waited, the more uneasy I was.

"You should find something to do, even if it's writing a diary." Mia couldn't help but open her mouth. "Anxiety alone won't solve anything."

I wanted to argue back, but apparently her opinion was still valid. I took my pen out of the drawer while a sudden shriek came from outside the door.

"Alpha's hurt! Somebody help!"

"Click." I dropped my pen to the floor in shock.

In that moment, my mind went blank. I rushed out the door and saw that someone was carrying him on a stretcher and running fast toward the medical room not far away.

"He's so badly injured, what should we do!?" The people next to him were clearly panicking.

Elijah may have really protected them too well, and I saw that some of them had left their posts.

"The tourniquet is tied well." I forced my composure to come forward and check, while lowering my voice as much as possible to sound more authoritative.

"You guys go back and keep watch for the night. If the others have bad intentions, they may strike tonight."

"That's true, but..."

"No 'buts'." I interrupted the man.

Soon, the originally panicked crowd dispersed. Everyone went about their business. The doctor sat next to Elijah and gave me a thumbs up.

"Luna, you're doing really well."

"Thank you. How is he doing?"

Elijah's breathing seemed much smoother, but his eyes were still tightly closed.

"The situation has been stabilized, but maybe for the time being he still won't wake up." That doctor wiped his sweat. "Tonight is the critical period, if there is nothing unexpected it will be fine."

"I'll guard him, go do what you have to do." I took the towel from his hand and pulled the stool over to sit on the edge of the bed.

He slept on the bed as if he were a fragile doll. But I knew all the same that this was not the time to let me vent my emotions.

I wiped his forehead to check his body temperature as the doctor said, always watching his expression. Just like that, I sat and held on for the whole night.

"Ahem..."

By the time the sun rose again, he finally opened his eyes slowly. He probably wanted to get up and hug me, but those medical devices interfered with his movements.

"Don't cry." He held out his hand to me.

I held his hand and couldn't stop whimpering. It was as if this would make all my fatigue from the night disappear.

"How could you hurt yourself so badly?"

"It was just a slip-up. I promise you, it will never happen again." Elijah struggled to argue, but he was still coughing.

I was a little angry, but seeing him like this, I couldn't say anything else. I just brought him a glass of water and watched him drink it slowly.

I suddenly realized that I should have been inseparable from him. Otherwise, I wouldn't have reacted this way.

"However, since I'm injured, I'll have to trouble you with the recent female warrior selection." Supposedly not wanting me to worry, Elijah changed the subject stiffly.

"I'm sure you'll do well."

I knew he didn't want me to think about that anymore, and I had to admit, he did exactly what he could to distract me.

"Female warrior selection? You have a female warrior selection?" I could hardly believe my ears.

"Of course there will be. Female wolves are not weaker than male wolves at all, and they will even be more perceptive and careful. That's why our wolf pack has a female warrior selection every year." Elijah explained to me.

"It's not like my original pack at all. We have basically no female warriors in our pack." I was lost in thought as I looked at the roster he handed me. I stroked the names and felt the warm ink on it.

God knew how envious I was of them.
