Chapter three

KACEY POV

Maybe something good was finally going to come out of this new change. My mother wrapped her arms around me tightly.

"I'm so proud of you honey!"

I pulled away and stared at the letter for myself.

"Thank you mom."

"You've been giving yourself a hard time studying, you deserve this scholarship."

"It's a university for rich kids, mom . Do you think that I'm going to fit in?"

"I know for sure that you'll fit in honey, just be yourself and you'll make some new friend's."

"I guess you're right mom."

She gave me a pat on the back.

"We should celebrate."

"Mom, let's not make a big deal out of this. I have to go to work. My shift is almost starting."

"Then I guess we can celebrate when you come back from work because I can't let you treat this brilliant news like it's nothing."

"You got accepted at the most prestigious university in the world honey and I'm happy for you. I know that your father would be proud of you too."

"Please don't mention his name."

Amber sighs deeply.

"You're right I'm sorry."

She gave me a peck on the cheek and I took my acceptance letter to my bedroom.

I looked outside the window again.

"He's not coming back, it's just time I accepted the bitter truth."

I changed my clothes and left for work bidding my mother goodbye. My job didn't pay much but it helped my mother and I pay for the groceries."

I got on the bus heading for work. I had a feeling that it was going to be a long day.

Twenty minutes later I arrived at the same restaurant that was located in midtown.

Once Elijah saw me he smiled at me.

"Hey you're ten minutes late."

I sighed softly while checking in.

"Yeah I'm sorry that the bus had a faulty problem so it had to be fixed so I had to come here by foot."

"Okay I understand but you might wanna grab your apron before the boss finds you."

"Yeah I got it."

Elijah cocked a brow at me.

"You seem to be in a sour mood. What's up with you?" He asked curiously.

"It's nothing serious . My mom just made the mistake of mentioning my father again."

"I guess that you're still angry with him."

"Well, a letter was delivered here, in fact a package and it was addressed to you."

"I kept it in storage just give me a few minutes to go get it."

"No it's okay you can give it to me during our lunch break, let's just get back to work since the customers are already waiting."

Elijah nodded quietly.

"Yeah come on."

FOUR HOURS LATER

Elijah and I went to a small Mexican restaurant that was a few blocks away to have our lunch.

He placed the package on the table.

"Who is it from?" I asked curiously while checking the package because it had no name tag.

Elijah remained silent.

"I think that the package is from your…" he trailed off.

"I think you should open it yourself."

I opened the package only to find a letter and some bundles of cash inside.

My eyes widened in shock.

"This is money…"

Elijah looked inside the box.

"Holy cow, that's a lot of green's."

I opened the letter.

When I saw who it was from, my heart sank and I was scared to pick it up.

"The letter is from my father but how did he know about my whereabouts?"

I looked at Elijah feeling suspicious.

"Did you tell him?"

"No of course not I would never do that to you Kacey don't you trust me?"

He placed his hand on top of mine.

"I'm your best friend, you should have a little more faith in me."

I sighed deeply.

"I'm sorry for doubting you Elijah, it's just that I've been having a hard time these past few days."

"Hey you're not alone I'm here for you and you have nothing to worry about."

"So what does the letter say?"

"He misses my mother everyday and he wishes that he could come back."

"Do you want him to come back?"

I shook my head negatively.

"I think it's already too late for that because he's nine years late. If he had come home sooner, maybe I would have forgiven him."

"After thirteen years he finally decided that he cared about me and my mother. He sent me money to buy things I would need at the University."

"I don't even understand how he found out about the university."

"Do you think that my mother had something to do with it?"

"Kacey that's not the kind of question I can answer right now because I'm not sure myself but you should ask your mom when you get back home."

"That's why she mentioned my father today because she has been talking to him behind my back. I'm sure that she's the one who even told him about my acceptance letter."

Elijah looked puzzled.

"Acceptance letter?"

"Well I forgot to tell you something I got accepted at the Venus university for the gifted the acceptance letter came this morning."

Elijah grasped my hand gently.

"Oh my gosh I'm so happy for you Kacey."

I smiled at him.

"Thank you I'm pretty excited as well, maybe a new place will take things off my mind."

"Well I also have some news of my own because you won't be going alone at the Venus university."

I cocked a brow at him.

"What do you mean?"

"Well I also got accepted to the same university."

A gasp of shock escaped my lips.

"That's awesome news Elijah I'm so happy for you when do you leave?"

"Next week."

"You know sometimes you kind of confuse me. You decided to work at a small restaurant but yet you come from a rich family."

Elijah smiled at.

"Well let's just say that I don't like being given things on a silver platter even if I was born with wealth it doesn't belong to me."

"It belongs to my parents and I'd rather work for my own money than just be given without any expectations."

"Well either way I am proud of you Elijah and I can't believe that we are going to the same university."

"We should go out to celebrate."

"Oh gosh you're now sounding like my mother because she just said the same thing to me this morning."

"We can go have fun at a club and get drunk because I know for a fact that once we leave for the university you won't want to have any fun."

"That's not true, I can have fun."

"Okay then I come to the club with me tonight I'll come pick you up so that your mother doesn't get suspicious."

"I can't believe that I got myself into this mess."

"Hey you already agreed so you can't back down."

Elijah pecked me on the cheek and walked away leaving me speechless.

I watched him walk away but something inside me was telling me to follow him. He glanced back at me with a shy smile.

Something about him was different. His brown eyes had a different shade of brown and his dimples were simply taunting me every time he smiled at me. Was I checking out my own best friend?
