CHAPTER SIX

KACEY POV

I took a quick shower and changed into one of my shorts paired off with a tank top. It's been a busy day and I forgot to open my mother's present.

"Looks like you got a nice gift there."

I looked at Ronnie and nodded quietly.

"Yeah my mother gave me this and she insisted that I open it once I arrived here."

"You should open it. I'm sure that you must be waiting for your call."

I began to tear off the wrapping paper and my eyes widened in shock when I saw the logo.

"Mom, what did you do?" I whispered to myself.

Ronnie sat beside me.

"Oh my gosh that's a MacBook pro!"

"How did she even get this? We can barely afford to pay rent for the house and the bakery."

"I am now your mother's biggest fan."

I pulled out my phone and decided to call her.

She picked up on the second ring.

"Hi dear I hope you had a safe trip. I'm sorry I couldn't pick up earlier. My hands are covered in dough."

"I opened your gift."

There was a slight pause from both ends.

"Did you like it?"

"Mom, where did you get the money?"

"Honey you were going off to university with just a mere cellphone and I wanted to see my daughter happy."

"But I'm happy with what I have mom."

"I know sweetheart but ever since you got that acceptance letter from university I've seen you passing by that shop staring at that laptop I knew that you loved it so I had to find a way to give to you."

"You shouldn't have done that mom, it wasn't necessary."

"I saw other student's buying that kind of laptop and you didn't have anything so I didn't want you to feel left out and I wanted to make you happy so I sold one of the properties your father left us before he disappeared."

"I know that you're a bit upset but I want to be happy."

Tears spilled down my cheeks and I wiped them away.

"I love it mom but it must have cost a fortune. I'm sorry you had to go through that."

"You don't need to apologize to me so how's Venus university?" She asked curiously.

"It's beautiful here and it's everything I've dreamed about ever since I was in highschool."

"I'm just glad that you're finally happy Kacey, okay I have to go please do greet Elijah on my behalf a customer just walked in."

"Don't forget to make some new friends."

My mother hung up and I sighed softly.

"Your mom sounds nice."

I looked at Ronnie.

"I'm sorry I didn't mean to invade your privacy or something."

"It's okay you don't have to apologize to me."

Ronnie stood up.

"Well I need to get a few books from the library. I'll be back in a few minutes."

Once Ronnie was gone I heard a knock on the door and when I got up to open the door it was Elijah.

I crossed my arms over my chest.

"What are you doing here?"

"I wanted to see you and judging by your tone I guess that you're still upset with me."

"Just come inside I don't want to draw anymore attention."

He nodded quietly and walked inside while I closed the door.

"So what did you want to say?"

He looked at the laptop.

"Did you like the gift?"

"You knew about the laptop?"

He nodded quietly.

"Your mother called me and I helped her pick out the right one that would suit you."

I sighed deeply.

"Forget about the laptop, why didn't you tell me that you had something to do with my admission here?"

"I wanted to get accepted here because of my brains and grades and not because you begged your father to consider my application because I'm friends with you."

"I didn't tell my father anything of that sort Kacey I just told him that you were smart and good enough to get accepted here."

"You've been working hard for this scholarship all your life, I just didn't want you to lose it."

"I know that you're probably mad at me but I did this with the purest intentions I didn't want to bring you any harm."

"Hurting you is the least thing on my mind Kacey and I don't want to lose our friendship because of such a petty issue."

I looked at the laptop on the bed and looked at Elijah.

"You're right I guess something not worth losing our friendship."

"Does that mean that you forgive me?"

"Yes I forgive you. Besides, I would be miserable here without my best friend."

I wrapped my arms around Elijah, hugging him tightly.

He pulled away and cupped one of my cheeks.

"Thank you for forgiving me."

"Elijah…"

He pulled away and made some distance between us.

"I also came here to tell you something important: a party is going to take place this weekend. It's more like a welcome party for the new student's here. I wanted to personally invite you."

"Elijah you should know by now that I'm not good in such social situations. You've been inviting me to parties for years now and I always chicken out at the last minute."

"Well this year it's going to be different and I'll make sure of that. Just trust me I'll make sure that you have a good time."

"Okay I'll go to the party only in one condition."

"And what's that condition?"

"Don't force me to drink any alcohol."

"You've got yourself a deal."

The door opened and Ronnie walked in.

She looked at Elijah puzzled.

"I hope that I'm not interrupting anything."

"No you weren't please come in. I was just inviting Kacey to the welcome party that's taking place this weekend."

"Oh I've heard about that. I'll definitely check it out. It sounds amazing from what I've heard so far."

"Okay then I guess I'll see you tomorrow Kacey" Elijah exclaimed firmly.

"Goodnight."

Once Elijah was gone Ronnie cocked a brow at me.

"Aren't you going to follow him?"

I shook my head negatively.

"Why do I need to follow Elijah?"

"Because he was giving you those puppy dog eyes and I can tell that the guy is madly in love with you."

"No, Elijah and I are just friends, he's like a brother to me. I don't see him that way."

"Turning on a guy and calling him your brother is just wicked Kacey."

A gasp escaped my lips.

"His best friend I would never lead him on besides I don't like him that way."
