CHAPTER EIGHT

ELIJAH POV

I looked around the party hoping to see Kacey but I couldn't spot her anywhere. A part of me started feeling worried because something was definitely wrong. Luckily I saw Ronnie getting some drinks and I decided to approach her.

"Hey."

"Oh hi Elijah."

"Have you seen Kacey?"

"Yeah I left her at our table. It's not far from here so I can take you to her."

"That would be great because I've been looking for her everywhere."

A few minutes later we arrived at the table only to find it empty but I could see Kacey's phone and purse on the table.

"She was right here."

"I have a bad feeling about this."

I picked one of the cups which was one the table and it smelled like alcohol.

"I think that she was drinking with someone."

"I have a bad feeling about this. Kacey wouldn't agree to drink alcohol because it's a no zone for her. I'm sure that someone must have tricked her."

"I don't mean to drag you into this Ronnie but can you please help me look around? Maybe if we search for her together we might cover more ground and find her."

"You don't have to ask Elijah because Kacey is my best friend. I would do anything for her."

"Thanks Ronnie."

After several hours of searching I decided to go outside but I stopped in my tracks when I noticed two figures cuddling in the darkness. I could feel my heart pounding in my chest as I walked closer.

I placed my hand on the girl's shoulder and pulled her away from the guy who was holding. My eyes widened in shock when I saw the girl's face because she was my best friend Kacey.

"Kacey."

She smiled at me.

"Elijah I'm glad you could make it now, meet my boyfriend Maxwell."

I could smell the alcohol on her.

"Kacey you're drunk."

"No I've been drinking juice all night right Max?" She muttered in her drunken state.

I stood in front of Kacey protecting her.

"What did you do to her?"

Maxwell shrugged carelessly.

"You heard what Kacey said, she's not drunk and I only kissed her because she wanted me to kiss her."

"Besides I can kiss my girlfriend any time I want and there's nothing you can do about it because you'll always be in the friend zone."

I held him by the collar ready to strangle him.

"If I were you I would keep my mouth shut because this situation is not in your favor Maxwell."

"Elijah let him go."

Maxwell had a wicked smirk plastered on his face. He was taunting me.

"You heard what the lady said, let me go."

I decided to let go of him.

"I'm not done with you Maxwell especially after what you've done to Kacey you got her drunk on purpose so that you could have your way with her."

Before Maxwell could leave I pushed him against the wall.

"If you assault me here I don't think that your father is going to take this lightly when he finds out that his son is ruining his good name."

"And you honestly think that I give a damn about my father's reputation? I'm his son. What is he going to do? Get me arrested or expelled?"

"If you think I care about my father's name then you're very mistaken."

Before I left, I punched Maxwell in the face and I'm sure it's going to leave a mark in the morning.

"Now go tell my father that I punched you."

I grabbed Kacey against her will and dragged her away.

KACEY POV

Yes I lashed out at Elijah for what he did to Maxwell the next morning. He gave my boyfriend a black eye and I wasn't going to sit around and support this kind of bad behavior.

"He thinks I got you drunk Kacey."

"Don't be mad at Elijah, he's my best friend. He was just trying to look out for me so save him the trouble his father is already giving him a hard time."

"You know that I would do anything for you Kacey but you still haven't given me an answer."

"Should I get down on my knees?"

"No of course not you don't have to do that."

"Then be my girlfriend."

"So what do you say?"

"Yes, I'll be your girlfriend."

Maxwell wrapped his arms around me, hugging me tightly.

I've never had a boyfriend before and he was going to be my first. I wanted to share the news with Elijah but for weeks I haven't seen him on campus. Eventually weeks turned into months and he was still nowhere to be seen. People were spreading rumors claiming that his father made him transfer into a new university that was out of the country and my worst fear was about to come true.

I might have lost my best friend forever. Maxwell and I have been dating for six months and we were happy together.

A knock on the door interrupted my thoughts and I closed the book I was reading and went to open the door.

I was rather surprised to see Maxwell.

"Hey, what are you doing here?"

He had a frown plastered on his face.

"Aren't you happy to see me?"

" I'm just a bit surprised that you showed up because you claimed to be busy."

"I had some time to spare so I decided to visit you don't you like my surprise?"

"Of course I do but I have to study for a test so you can't come in."

"Kacey, why can't you be more like the other girl's? All you do is study day and night and don't be such a boring girlfriend."

"Maxwell, unlike you my mother can't afford to pay my tuition fees and if I want to keep my scholarship and continue studying here I need to keep up my grades."

"I wasn't born wealthy like you."

"Okay don't get angry I'm sorry for upsetting you."

"I just wanted to spend some quality time with you."

"Can you at least spare just ten minutes?"

"Fine we can talk but only for ten minutes."

Maxwell walked in and closed the door.

"Is Ronnie here?"

I shook my head negatively while reading my book.

"No but she said that she might be gone for a while. Do you need something?"

He sat beside me.

"The only thing that I need is you, Kacey."

Maxwell grabbed my book and placed it on the table.

"You can study when I'm gone."

I sighed deeply.

Maxwell pulled me closer crushing his lips on mine as he placed his hand on my bare thigh drawing circles.

I gently pushed him away.

He looked puzzled.

"What is it?"

"I don't want to do this Maxwell and I don't think I'm ready."

He looked irritated.

"What do you mean?"

"I'm a virgin and I don't plan on losing my pride not until I'm ready."

He chuckled softly.

"You've got to be kidding me."

"I thought that you would be more understanding."

He got up.

"You're the one who doesn't understand Kacey, why would you turn me on when you're clearly not going to give me what I want?"

"Maxwell stop behaving this way relationships aren't based on sex."

"You know what? I can't do this anymore, it's over."

Before I could stop him he already stormed out of the room. Tears spilled down my cheeks.

It seems like I'll end up alone.

DIAMOND POV

"I can't wait to see the look on Kacey's face when she sees the news today."

I looked at Maxwell who didn't seem to share the same excitement as me.

"Why aren't you celebrating?"

"I don't feel comfortable doing this to Kacey because this is going to ruin her reputation."

I glared at him angrily.

"And since when do you care about what happens to that loser?"

He remained silent.

"Wait, don't tell me that you fell in love with her?"

"Your goal was to make her fall in love with you Maxwell and not the other way around."

"But anyway I won't reprimand you since you've helped me extract my revenge."

"But get one thing straight I want you to stay away from her otherwise things will end badly between us and I won't hesitate to make you my enemy."

"If I were you I would pick sides carefully otherwise you'll end up just like your loser ex girlfriend."

KACEY POV

It's been days and Maxwell still hasn't reached out to me. Maybe he is really gone.

I left my room and went to attend my next class. I didn't want to run late and despite the pain I was feeling I had to keep up my grades.

In the classroom people kept giving me weird looks and they were talking badly about me but the sad part was that I didn't understand what I had done wrong.

At the cafeteria no one even wanted to sit with me except for Ronnie and Ella, my new best friends.

"What's going on?"

"Haven't you heard the rumors?" Ella asked curiously.

"What rumors?"

"People are saying that you only get good grades because you've been having sex with the male teachers."

"What?"

"That's not true."

"And worse Maxwell is telling the whole campus that he dumped you because you weren't good in bed."

Tears rolled down my cheeks and I ran out of the cafeteria and went to the bathroom.
