Mafia's Den
Five months had passed since the incident in Lornato, life with Kimberly had been nothing but a mess and trouble.
It was tough getting a job, and life was taking a rather hard turn for her living in New York.
For the past few months, Kim had been living under her friend's charity, she was tired of hoping that a company will call her after trying all this while.
"Wake up, Kimberly, you should be getting ready for your interview," Paige said walking into the room.
She lives in a bungalow on one of the lamest streets of the town. It is a two bedroom house, with a living room, and a kitchen. The Bathroom was shared and it was down the hall.
Life hadn't been as rosy as Kim had expected it to be, but she wasn't complaining, she had just exhausted her resources and will soon run into debt if she doesn't get a job to support herself.
"To hell with the interview, I've heard the company is owned by a mafia, I dread those set of people," Kimberly said tossing around the bed.
Paige was Kim's best friend from childhood, but she moved to New York after the fifth grade, she was so glad to welcome her one time best friend to her home, and also assist her in finding a job.
Kimberly had never for once uttered about her experience with the stranger alpha with Paige since she got to town. She kept the details to herself, it was that safe at least.
The young lady had pale black hair, it was held in a neat ponytail behind her head. She was dressed for work, not quite beautiful, but her big eyes were her charms.
Sitting down on the bed, she gently stroked Kimberly's back.
"The mafia's company is the only company left that is vacant and in search of a presentation planner, they might want your skill if you propose it," Paige advised her.
Kimberly did not respond, she kept calm. She was still contemplating whether or not to give it a try.
Paige rose to her feet and advanced towards the door, her steps died out when Kim spoke to her.
"How much time do I have left?" Kim asked sniffing.
Without looking up at her friend, Kim knew she was smiling, it was a sign of hope for her.
"One hour, fifteen minutes, you should make use of the time if you plan on taking the subway to town," Paige advises.
Closing the door behind her, Paige felt like it was time to have a few minutes of sleep. It never did any harm to rest a little, especially when she didn't want to go to the interview.
Finally, it was at 7:20 that Kimberly stirred awake, she shouted as she realized the interview time was at eight a.m.
There was no fucking way she was going to be on time especially when she will be taking the subway.
"Goodness gracious, I have to get going," Kimberly muttered as she slipped into her heels.
She was combing her hair and didn't figure it out yet that she wore two different pairs of stilettos. One was her favorite black heels, the one she had been wearing constantly in search of employment, it was on her right foot.
The mismatched one was a golden color, she used it for important occasions only.
Allowing her red hair to fall behind her back, she grabbed her documents, and then, some cash and headed to the Parker's Light Company.
It was the biggest mining company in the state, everyone wanted to do trade with them but dreaded its leader. It is said to be controlled by a Mafia Lord, the thought of facing him today churned Kimberly's stomach.
This is from another rumor, the fact that the mafia interviews his own staff members.
As expected, Kimberly was thirty minutes late. The subway hadn't done well in speeding up her appointment. She couldn't blame it on the public transportation, she didn't have money to buy a car, for now, and renting one will cut a big hole in her already affected savings.
The rain had chosen today to fall out of all the days of the year. Running from the main road to the company was a long journey, balancing between her heels and protecting her documents from being trampled was another difficult task.
She made it, but couldn't go far from the desk.
"I am sorry, Miss, but the interview section is closed now," the grim faced receptionist said.
She had a sharp tongue, and with wary eyes, she knew when someone wasn't worth the position before she tried it.
Kimberly held herself, she wasn't quite interested in the job, dealing with a mafia wasn't her strong point.
"Was the position taken?" Kimberly asked lightly holding her breath.
"No, ma'am. The boss called it off from the third interviewee, it seems you all are a bunch of dullards, no one can impress him," the secretary muttered out.
Her name was on her desk, it said, Rachel, she looked more like a Karen.
Kim didn't know why she was pleased by that information, taking a deep breath, she let it out before speaking.
"Good then, I will love to try my luck, where is the boss's office?" the lady asked.
Rachel was annoyed by that sudden question.
"The boss doesn't want to be disturbed, besides, you don't stand a chance," she said.
Kimberly lost it.
"And you think you stand a chance to work in this company? don't be a Karen and spoil my already spoiled mood," Kim shouted.
Rachel was annoyed.
"I'll call the security, you need to get going now," Rachel said.
Kimberly had heard enough, she rushed to the elevator and slid into it. Her hair still dripping from the rainwater. She watched with satisfaction as terror filled the receptionist's eyes.
"Madam! you can't do that. Security, get her," Rachel blurted out.
They tried getting to the elevator, but it was too late, Kimberly had closed it.
Well, she had a problem, the building had twenty floors, she didn't know which floor belonged to the boss. Good enough, there was a plan inside the elevator.
Fifteenth floor, the last office down the hallway.
"I am coming for you, mafia boss!" she said with a satisfied tone.
