3: Escape
" What do you think alph-a Kaden will do when he finds out you are trying to obstruct his breeding?” I asked, threat beneath my throat but deep down, I was excited and wanted to grab the pill from her.
I knew why he made me his breeder. An alpha can only reproduce with his mate. Not a chosen one, but a destined mate. If he tries to breed with his chosen mate, then the pups will die. The pups won’t only die but this circle will go on for five times which means Elena will need to have five still born before they can have a healthy living child, and that is not all, every dead pup will take two years from his life which will make his lifespan shorter by ten years.

Without another word, she stormed out, the door slamming behind her with a loud bang.
Placing the pill under the sheets, my heart sank to my stomach as the anxiety and emptiness returned. I lay on the bed, waiting for him as Rena went giddy, releasing pheromones that made me sick to the gut. I hate that I do not have any control over this.
The door opened and I smelled him. My ex- mate. Rena howled in excitement, wanting to bask in his scents but I slowly grip the sheets, resisting the urge to launch myself at him. I hate that my body feels this way about him. I hate that Rena puts these images in my head.
" You couldn’t wait to have me, " he says, clicking his tongue and I just lay there, no words.
With a force, he rips the thin fabric apart. His hands cupping my breasts and a little spark cursed through me but despite the tantalizing feeling, I felt disgusted.

I sat on the bed, staring anxiously at the wall clock. I have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow. My mom should be here already. Why is she taking so long? Attending the appointment will mean that my pills will be discovered. Tonight is the perfect night. I’ve planned this for almost two years.
The door opened and I finally let out a sigh of relief as my mom walked in. They never let her visit me. They’d just started allowing her to visit me once a month. The last time I saw her was a month ago.
" So many checks,” she says chuckling as she closed the door behind her.
" You good?” She asks and I nod my head. She sat on the bed next to me and I held her hands, looking her in the eyes, she looks worst than the last time. It’s as if she is fighting a silent battle.
" Is there something that you are not telling me?” I asked her and she just stare at me, making me unsettled and I shift my butt on the bed.
" Your father has another family,” The words left her mouth and I saw tears well in her eyes before dropping on her cheeks. My eyes widened in shock. Father has another family? That is a lie. I don’t trust him but he wouldn’t do that. He loves mom. They were the perfect couples. I even pray for their type of love.
" It’s true, Athena, he has a five years old son with her,” she sobs, sniffing and I quickly wrap my arms around her. I didn’t know what comforting words to say to her. The best thing to do was remain quiet and let her cry. Crying helps. I know that better than anyone.
She pulls back and wiped her face quickly with her palms.
" I’m fine. Let’s talk about you, " she said, I could tell she was avoiding the topic and I didn’t want to push it further.
" Come with me mom. You don’t have any reason to stay behind anymore.” I tugged at her hand, hoping she would say yes but she just remained quiet and sniffed again.
Shaking her head at me, she said, " I can’t Hun. "
I let go of her hands, holding her black eyes with mine. If I didn’t have an ugly scar, I would pass as her replica but I doubt I would have the elegance she possesses.
" Why?” I asked her. My voice cracking.
" Dad cheated. He betrayed your bonds as a mate. He hurts you. Why do you still want to stay? " I asked her, slightly pissed and quickly added.
" I know you love him but this is unforgivable. You don’t have to stay. You are young.. " she laughed, cutting me off and her smile melted my heart, breaking my resolve slowly and melting the tears that were frozen in my eyes.
" You think I’m twenty because I look young? " She asks and I opened my mouth to speak but I hated that no words came out because of a big lump that has suddenly formed in my throat.
I coughed to clear my throat, swallowing the lump and said, feigning annoyance, " You look thirty as if you are not in your late forties "
" Come with me mom, we can leave all of this behind and start a whole new life.” I tried to convince her but she shook her head, standing her ground.
" I can’t leave yet. The alpha still needs me.” She answers and her words sounded like a betrayal, slicing through my heart muscles that it was difficult to breath for a second.
" Have you forgotten what he did to me?” I questioned her, not wanting to raise my voice at her The tears melted completely. How did they became so hot and burning?
" He is just twenty-one, Athena. He still needs guidance. The pack still needs me. Besides running away right now with you will be considered treason. They will come for us, especially you and I don’t want wolves hunting you down. I don’t want you to experience any more pain. " She cups my face with her hands, looking into my eyes with affection. It was like I could see her soul. Her conflicts and whatever else that is beneath those glistening but almost dead eyes.
" Remember the plan. Don’t look back. Keep running until you are out of this territory. Do not go rogue. Find a pack as soon as you can and hide. I’ve prepared everything that you will need. Don’t forget, no contact.” She instructed and I just look at her, my head buzzing. I didn’t know it was going to feel this overwhelming.
" I love you, Athena. I will find you,” She kissed my eyes, kissing away the tears before kissing my forehead and pulling me into her arms.
She forced something into my palm and whispered in my ears. " Eat this, it will conceal your scent and make anyone who comes near you dizzy.”
I clenched my hand around it tightly.
My mom finally left, leaving me in the cold lonely comfort of my room. The servants brought food and I immediately devoured it and requested for more. I needed food for energy because in few hours, I would be running for thousand kilometers without resting.
uwrs passed quickly and staring at the leaf in my hand, I quickly placed it inside my mouth and chew. My face wrinkled at its bitterness but I forced it down my throat.
It’s 3 am. The servants has gone to bed except for the guards guarding the villa. Alpha Kaden is spending the night with Elena. She will never let him out of her sight. I sneaked into the hall way, and quietly ran down the stairs to the basement. My mom had made me memorize this route. I haven’t used it before but the map she brought gave me a glimpse of what I should expect. She is a pack warrior commander and commands most of the guards guarding the alpha’s apartment.
I have two minutes to make it out of the basement and without wasting any time, I took to my heels, running bare foot and after making it out of the basement into the open, I grabbed the garbage bag. It contained what I would need to survive for days and sneaked out from the tiny gate. I felt someone staring at my back but I didn’t dare look back. I knew those eyes belonged to my mother. I didn’t want anything that would make me change my mind. I don’t know if I would ever see her again so I turned around and looked at her for one last time and she mouthed at me. " Run!”
I gulped. Why does swallowing hurts? My eyes moistened and I mouthed at her, " I love you " letting the tears flow before shifting into my wolf form. I grabbed the bag with my teeth and leaped into the forest, dashing through the trees as fast as my legs could take me. While my wolf ran, I wept quietly. The moon is bright, following every direction I go. Is she mocking me?
