Chapter 10

With a deep sigh, Ashley thanked her stars that Logan was not in his office, she had contemplated on how to wipe the act if she set eyes on him. She knew he might want to continue from where he stopped—the last time and this time she might say yes.

Ashley wanted to put everything behind and focus on her work, she wanted the whole drama off the table.

"You still have the flames in your pen, I am glad you are back." Those were Mr Johnson's words rang in her ears.

She smiled and faced the herculean task that stood in front of her and that was taking a copy to the person she had interviewed. Ashley was glad all that was beside her as she drove through the highway to her office.

Settled in her cubical, her eyes fixated on her laptop as the sound that originated from her fingers hitting her keypads was the only thing one could hear.

Ashley was soon interrupted by a knock, raising her head she saw her best friend Jessica. "Hey," she said, standing from her seat to hug her. "How was your journey?" Ashley asked with her hands still around Jessica's waist which looked like that of a wasp.

Ashley broke the embrace, and Jessica smiled with delight—to see her friend getting back to how she used to be—she smiled and one could see her shiny halo white teeth.

"My journey was fine, thank you," she replied. "How have you been?" She threw the question Ashley had been trying to avoid since she walked into her cubicle.

"The casual answer or the truth?" Ashley asked

"Ain't anything casual about our relationship, start talking bitch" Jessica said, as she tries to make her sef comfortable in the medium-sized cubicle that had stacks of files and books with a laptop, a typical depressing office.

"I will gist you everything, but not here please," Ashley said

"Why, because the walls have ears here?" Jessica asked

"You know I don't care, I just feel this is not the place for that kind of discussion"

"Okay"

"Let me get back before the boss comes back" As Jessica was about the leave, Ashley's phone began to vibrate, it had the name Logan on it.

"Who is Logan?" She asked

"A client I interviewed"

"Why is he calling?"

"Probably a review," Ashley switched the phone to silent and tossed it upside down,

"Pick up then"

"I will"

"No, you won't" they were arguing when the phone stopped ringing. Ashley smiled and showed Jessica the phone, you see it is done ringing. Jessica pepped and said "it is ringing again"

Logan had spent a while waiting for her downstairs, he had a lot that he wanted to say to her and would love to speak to her in private. For that reason he had called her phone and was super excited she picked up.

Soon he saw a figure he was familiar with stepping out of the skyscraper building She had a sculpted figure which was twine-thin. Her waist was tapered and she had a burnished complexion. A pair of arched eyebrows looked down on sweeping eyelashes. Her delicate ears framed a button nose. He could see a set of dazzling, angel-white teeth as she smiled. Logan felt it was a pleasure to see her flowing, moon shadow-black hair. Her enticing, constellation-blue eyes gazed upon him over her puffy, heart-shaped lips. The little he had known about her was enough to tell that she had a bouncy personality and a sugary voice, which he adored. Not content to be just another drone, she wore vibrant clothes.

"Sorry I was catching up with my friend," Ashley said before exchanging pleasantries with Logan.

"I am even glad u picked up my call," he said

"Let's say I was in a good mood" Ashley smiled.

"Do you care for a ride?" He asked

"Are you kidnapping me?"

"We wouldn't be having this conversation; hop in" Logan entered his car without even waiting for her response. Ashley called Jessica, "If the boss asks of me tell him I went for lunch"

"For real?" She could feel Jessica's shock over the phone

"No, just want to go out with Mr Werewolf,"

"Be careful love"

"I will" Ashley dropped her phone, and entered into the ash BMW M5. Logan smiled and zoomed off.

"Wow, this is beautiful" Ashley was so impressed with the view of the city that stood beneath him.

"I discovered here when I was a boy; after my dad had passed away, I thought my life would be over because of some tales I had heard about people that lost their father, so I wanted to run away from home to somewhere nobody could find me"

"So what made you change your mind"

"Hunger" They all laughed. Ashley sat down on a stone by the hill, she loved the view and the air she inhaled here was completely different from what the busy city had to offer.

"How many girls have you brought here?" She asked

"Mmmmm?" Logan started to count invincible numbers with his right index fingers in the sky and finally settled at "None. You are the only one, so you are safe" she chuckled a little.

"Why did you bring me here?" Ashley asked

"I wanted to show you this amazing view"

"Thanks, I have seen it. Can we get going ?" Ashley asked

"Can you just spend a little time with me here, I promise it will be worth your time" Ashley paused for a little and finally said "Okay, and what happens if it is not worth my time?"

"I will finish up on the article that you were working on"

"Not like you can write, but challenge accepted"

"Ouch, you just broke my heart" Logan placed his right hand on his chest. He sat down beside Ashley and said

"In the sounds generated from cars cruising along tarmacs, down to the honking of impatient drivers; Alongside the struggles to make a better living, pay bills and chase after dreams; This central city has a way of burying dreams and making everyone turn to a zombie with the sole aim of putting food on their tables. Out of all these troubles, most dreams are being buried" Logan picked a stone and threw it far away from the cliff on which they stood upon. He continued " That is why I come here mostly, it is like my sanctuary, somewhere I could take a break from the helter-skelter of the city"

"But you live a comfortable life, think about the poor man on the street," Ashley said

"Exactly my point. This poor man had dreams. Dreams that are buried and might never see the light of the day. I wish there was something I could do"

"Just spread love to whoever you come in contact with, maybe they might help someone else and the chain continues"

"I sometimes try my best, though we will never know the outcome" Logan released a faint sigh

"Do you know why I went into writing?" she asked

"Why," he asked, fixing his gaze upon the damsel that sat beside him

"I want to have the ability to create a world where I will love and everything will go according to how I want it to be. It was either be a politician or a writer, I choose the easy one" Logan smiled, "I love that" he said

"Thanks," she said

"Out of all these struggles, the only place I believe that I have the might to choose what I love and have amazing days with, the type of days that when I finally turn and look back on my dying bed; I will smile and say I lived a purposeful life is a woman I fall in love with and get married too" Logan walked towards his back seat brought out a rose flower and said "Ashley please be my sanctuary, my cliff, my head above water, if I don't get every other thing right please say yes and be the one I could boldly say I got right for I love you and waking up beside you for the rest of my life will make my bad days turn sweet, my sorrow days turn amazing" Ashley paused as she looked perplexed to even comprehend all that has been said to her "isn't this too much a responsibility to put on the one you love"

"With the right person; it is not but with the wrong person; it is"

"What if I am not enough"

"I know you are enough, just say yes and we will figure everything out together" she collected the rose flower from his hands and he kissed her. Logan thought to himself "Damm! Her lips taste like strawberry"
