Chapter 3

Logan hated the fact that he had felt indifferent at first about the girl that had rammed into his car the other day. He was suffering from the loss of Uncle Bob, his favorite uncle.

This man had raised him like he was his son after he had lost his father to cancer at the age of eleven, uncle Bob catered for his needs; sending him to school and taking care of this hybrid. Logan's story was different from everyone he knew, his father used to be the leader of the hybrids until his death, and then Uncle Bob took over and started their clan into being great once again. Logan has been devastated by the whole development, the fact that almost all his relatives want him to step up and take the baton of leadership; because over the years, he had deemed himself responsible, fearless, and courageous. A quality of leadership that flows in his family's blood. Everyone had seen the tenacity of a leader in Logan except for himself.

"It is your time to rule, make us proud." Uncle Bob had said to him on his sick bed. Logan's voice was very faint as he was overwhelmed by his emotions "I am not ready, Uncle" He said.

"Yes you are. You just have to believe in yourself". Logan tried to argue, but he couldn't for all the men that were present to witness his Uncle's last breath. Logan knew he was far from being ready but if he eventually becomes a leader, he will want them all to respect him and for this reason, he decided to cling to his Uncle Bob's hand and prayed that he should miraculously survive. But unfortunately, not all prayers are being answered. It was his Uncle's wish to be buried a few days after his death. Logan was going home from the graveyard when the beautiful lady rammed into his car. He was devastated by his loss and couldn't control the fact that he channeled his annoyance and grief towards the young nubile lady who was high on weed for reasons best known to her. After he had settled down for the day, his actions became clear and he regretted everything he had done and said to her, he wanted to make amends—not caring for the fact that she was a human. Logan knew his family history and how treacherous the humans were but she was not the one. Logan knew clearly that both werewolves, vampires, and humans should not be judged by the actions of their ancestors but by the path he chose to pave. He wanted to make peace, and that is why he had sent her the message the night the accident had happened. He had thought she would reply immediately but to his surprise, she had not replied to anything he sent and she wouldn't pick up his call anymore.

Few weeks after the incident and unfruitful desire to have a conversation with the human who he identified as Ashley Brigs; Logan had given up on ever making peace with the human who had spoilt one of his cars, he choose not to repair it so it could remind him of her and a warning to himself to be able to control his anger in any situation in which he finds himself. After numerous discussions with his close friend Tyler and his loving mother, Logan accepted to be the leader of the Hybrid clan. They were the strongest in the central city and the reason being that they were both werewolves and Vampires, they were very discreet about it for every Alpha werewolf in the city will give everything to have a hybrid as a mate and the same thing applied to the Vampires. The hybrid clan had no means of identification and most times swore to take their secret to the grave for if they were found lurking, they could tip the balance of life towards any direction and that could cause a lot of Havoc. Logan knew this and continued to manage his family's nightclub as a camouflage for their reality.

On a Saturday evening, as he headed to open for the hectic night ahead, Logan saw a familiar face, a face he had been looking for; the same face that had made him pass the route where he encountered his first ever accident. Logan switched lanes without a trafficator and almost crashed into the black sedan that was speeding behind him. He packed, alighted, and ran towards the bus stop where she was.

"Ashley," he said to the lady that stood in a crowd of people at the bus stop waiting for the bus. She looked at him, hissed, and fixed her gaze back at the road waiting for the bus.

"Can I please drop you where you are going?" Logan said calmly, ignoring the fact that her face and reaction towards him were not inviting at all. "Ashley, why are you cold towards me?" He asked. "Ashley!" "Ashley!" "Ashley!"

"What!" She finally replied to him.

"I am sorry for the other day," he apologized.

"Which of the days? The day you insulted me because I rammed into your car and threatened to call the cops on me or the day you called me at work, disgraced me and gave my boss the chance to suspend me, or the days you ran my battery because I refused to pick your phone. Please, which of these days are you talking about?" She looked towards the road and couldn't find any bus in sight. Logan knew he will never understand this gender and remembered his late Uncle Bob's statement saying: 'The secret to a happy marriage remains a secret

"I am sorry for everything, I am, if you read my messages. I explained to you that I lost a..."

"Family member," Ashley completed the statement. She continued "Logan or what is it you call yourself, we all have our losses to bear and we are all struggling with one thing or the other and that is why you should be nice to people you meet" It was as if she was doing a public lecture for the crowd that was impatiently waiting for the bus all nodded to Ashley's statement.

"Noted!" Clinging to his car keys "I was wrong for what happened, believe me, I was and I am sorry," The cold-looking Ashley shook her head a little. "Can I drop you any..."

"No, that won't be needed." She cut him off before he could finish his statement.

"Remember, be nice to everyone for we are all struggling with something" The voice rang in her head.

Ashley regretted using the words and he had a point. Everyone around had their eyes on Ashley. She felt they wanted to judge her if truly she practiced what she preached.

Ashley looked up, hoping she could see the bus in sight, to save her from doing what she did not want to. There was nothing in sight.

"That is why I am declining," she said. "The bus isn't coming now, please come let's go. I am asking a friend nicely."

"But I am not your friend"

"Yes, you are" He felt confident.

"Besides you have my number and I also have yours, what do you think that signifies?" Ashley knew this man was not ready to take no for an answer.

"Fine! Let's go." Everyone around started clapping. "You look cute together," an old woman with gray hair all over her head with a pair of wide glasses said.
