Chapter 6

Logan waited patiently for his interview, he hasn't been the type that granted interviews because he loved his business being in private and the only people that should know of the Tropicana nightclub should be its customers and future customers because he always believed that if the press knows about it, then people will start prying at their business and his family had a secret that they needed to protect but this time—it was different and he was excited that he will get to see Ashley once again, he loved her personality. Ideally, he sees a lot of people mostly ladies in his club that would be happy to spend a moment with him, but he wanted Ashley, his wolf wanted Ashley and his conscience of being a vampire also craved for Ashley.

Just like a copied assignment, Logan couldn't explain why he wanted her but he was certain he wanted this human to be his mate. Logan looked happy as the clock ticked towards the scheduled time for his interview though he had his doubts about Ashley coming for the interview and was certain she did not want to come because of the stunt she had pulled early in the morning. She was stubborn and he would have loved to see her expression when he had called her bluff. He was deep in his thoughts when his secretary called his desk.

"Hello Anita," he answered.

"There is a woman here, she said she is here for an interview."

"Do we have her on our schedule?" He asked.

"Yes, Boss, she is up for noon."

"Okay, send her in."

"Okay Boss"

Ashley walked into Logan's office, she couldn't help but notice how beautiful the decoration was.

"Please seat," Logan gestured for the woman in white and black to seat on one of the two chairs that were before him. As she sat down, his mahogany wooden table was the only object that stood between them. When Ashley leaned way back in the chair and cranked her neck hard over, she could see the sky from his office window, delft-blue and cloudless and so bright it looked solid. "I do hope locating here wasn't stressful?" Ashley wasn't sure if to take that as a question.

"You were discreet in your description." Ashley tried to put on a facade of being excited to be here.

"Oh I am glad," he said. Ashley brought out her phone alongside her notepad, scrolled to her recorder, clinked on the red part that said record on it and asked if he was ready. He nodded his head in affirmation.

"Tell us about yourself..."

"By us, you mean you?" He asked. If she was free to say whatever she wanted to, Ashley would have said "My recorder is on, and left me I do not care about you.

"Okay let me rephrase this; tell them about yourself," but this was her work and she needed it to be kind besides her boss might ask for the unedited version of the recording.

"Yes Mr. Logan, tell me about yourself." Logan had a smirk plastered on his face as he began to speak.

"My name is Logan Reeves, the first child in a family of five."

"Wow, I never knew you were much, I assumed you were the only child," Ashley said, for the sake of making the session interesting.

"Well I am not... my father died a couple of years ago from cancer."

"Sorry for your loss," Logan could sense her sympathy from the tone she used.

"Don't worry, my Uncle Bob stepped up as a father figure, he gave me the support I needed to be where I am now."

"Financially?" Ashley asked.

"Not really, he continued to manage the family's businesses but money wasn't a problem."

"Oh, okay. What about your Mum?" Ashely crossed her leg, feeling comfortable.

"She has been supportive, I love and adore her but sometimes a male child needs the presence of a man to grow."

"And what happens to the single mothers out there?"

Logan placed his hands on the table and said; "They ate amazing, not all superheroes wear capes and that is an example of a superhero. But what I am trying to say is this; if she could find help with a man or a fellow woman then she should hold on to it. Hell, it takes two to make a baby for a reason. " Ashley had a lot on her mind for this statement, she wanted to argue with him seriously, telling him her father left when she was young, her mother had struggled and brought her up in her way, yet he could see that she was doing well, but that was not the topic of the day.

"So one word to the single mothers out there," she said.

"They are amazing, and may the good Lord crown their efforts." Ashley nodded her head in affirmation as she muttered "smooth" in a very low voice.

"What did you say?" He asked. Ashley for the first time noticed he had a dimple on the left side of his face.

"Nothing," she said. "Why the nightclub?" She added.

"It was my great grandfather's legacy, he opened the Tropicana nightclub and has been passing the baton down to his son and then it continued and as you can see, it has landed in my hands."

"Have nightclubs been around for this long?"

"Yes, it has been around for a long time. Did you know that the first nightclubs appeared in New York City in the 1840s and 1850s, including McGlory's and the Haymarket? Even during that time, they enjoyed a national reputation for vaudeville, live music, and dance. They tolerated unlicensed liquor, commercial sex, and gambling cards. It has been around for a very long time," he answered as his white teeth could be seen from a distance.

"Thank you for the history class," she reciprocated with a smile.

"You are welcome."

"Something baffles me a lot."

"Which is?"

"Why a nightclub? Why not a restaurant or a theatre, something that will promote peace? I am a journalist I have seen depressing news linked to a nightclub."

"Ashley, the nightclub was built primarily for entertainment purposes, though it is not as much as you claim it is here, when it happens we can call it an occupational hazard. Accidents do happen everywhere, you came with a car I believe accidents do happen on the road also, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't use the car anymore same thing with the night club and I believe that was why my great grandfather chose a night club, he was a happy man and he wanted other people to be happy."

"He must be proud of all of you who held up his legacy." Ashley smiled at the fact that she did not picture her day going this smoothly.

"I believe he is." Logan leaned back in his chair.

"With growth comes modifications, what has been added to the club?"

"A lot of things, from the lights down to the chefs and the kinds of music and even the bartender who come up with one of the best liquors; I have no idea what the liquors were during his time but I can strongly argue that they make people happier than the olden days." Ashley nodded her head in agreement.

"All over town, the family that owns the Tropicana Nightclubs are known as Werewolves, but most times even the vampires and humans are found in here, don't you ever feel worried?"

"To be honest, I don't, and here is my reason apart from signing a treaty with all the leaders saying nothing goes wrong in the nightclub. It was originally built for enjoyment and I believe everyone is entitled to having fun irrespective of their species." Beneath the facade of professionalism that Ashley had come with, she was impressed with his perspective on race.

"We all know, you inherited the success of this Night club, would you have chosen something different if you were to build everything from the scratch?"

"Maybe yes, Maybe no. We never can tell because circumstances shape us. But for now, I love what I am doing."

"That's impressive," she said. Logan nodded his head.

"A word of advice to young people trying to be in your shoes someday."

After a long pause, he finally said "I will feel hypocritical to give a right answer because I did not struggle for it, it was handed to me but what I have learned over the years under the mentorship of my uncle, is this; Do not compromise your worth for anything, consistency is key and no matter what, be kind to everyone you meet for you never know who will help you on your way up the ladder."

"Thank you very much for your .time, Mr. Logan."

"You are welcome." Ashley stopped the recording, and put her phone and notepad back in the bag, she stood up and was about to head out when Logan held her band.
