Chapter 6: Positive changes

Aurora felt that her life had changed and she was… euphoric. She thought that her life would be the same, but now… everything was upside down. She had just had to wait a little but finally, her moment to shine has come.

It was all because of the Maledettos, she was sure, she couldn't explain it, but she have no doubts. All this happened when they appear in her life. Working with Maledettos was very easy, they were great bosses and Dark Moon Corp offices were amazing and everyone seems happy to work with them.

The only downside is that she saw them only a few times a week. Over time, Aurora managed to quickly notice when they were in the office, because everyone behaves differently, she even saw some bow to them, which was very strange.

Aurora especially liked to work with them because she can be close to Massimo. He was like a guilty pleasure for her, when she sensed Massimo's eyes on her… she felt like a rock star, her hands trembled, and she can't get enough of him… he was her personal drug. It seems illogical… he just talked to him a few times. Sometimes she can even smell his perfume, before his beautiful presence appeared in her field of vision.

Massimo never spoke to her again, although he sometimes praised her good work, but it seemed that if he could avoid mentioning the letters of her name, he would. The few days that she saw him he was thinner, as if something had happened to him, she wanted to ask… but he was just a client, and she was just a consultant assigned to their project. She saw Luca a few times, he was respectful, greeted her with affection and liked to call her Miss Wells, she thought he didn't even know her name.

Everything was good until she found out that there have been meetings where she hadn't been invited, sometimes it was with other consultants. Aurora couldn't stop having the slight discomfort of not being involved... or not seeing Massimo. Did they also forget about her? It wouldn't be weird.

Her boss Margaret asked her about the famous Maledettos. However, no matter how much Aurora tried to explain, she couldn't convey the aura that the Maledettos had, it was impossible to define.

How to describe their charm that was beyond their beauty and their voices? How did she describe what it felt like to look into Massimo's eyes? Those golden details in his eyes that seemed like… the secret of the world was hidden there.

Or how his hands were perfect, like works of art, or his perfume. It was impossible, because not even Aurora herself could explain it. Other days she reflected, and know in her heart, that there was still no poetry created to describe what she felt, just by listening to his voice, feeling his eyes on her. She felt lost, troubled, confused and…it wasn't a feeling she was used to.

But as wonderful as the Maledettos were, Aurora knew where she was, and that was on the lower floor, in the basement of the Maledettos's aspirations. Aurora was not deluded, she knew that Massimo must have an endless list of women he has been with, all beautiful, models and beauty queens. Plus a long list of women waiting their turn to be with such a man. That saddened her, but who was she? No one, she was almost invisible.

In any case, she tried to see the bright side: she was able to see Massimo a couple of times a week. She had the chance to see his beautiful face, to hear his magnificent voice, and yes…she imagined what it would be like to kiss those soft and sensual lips. Aurora had never fallen in love, but now she had fallen hard, it was unbelievable. He was just a platonic love. An amazing man like a roman god… but not for her.

If things didn't work out the way she wanted with the Maledettos, or at least she didn't see Massimo the way she wanted… at Kol House, the opposite occurs. Without warning, Conrad wanted to have her by his side. He had an unusual interest in her, Aurora was the most important consultant in the company. He called her every time, asked for help, he even remembered her name and invited her to meetings!

She believed that Conrad was undoubtedly an attractive and intelligent man. He was always impeccable and was always trying to do his best. She knew from what other colleagues says, that he was a popular man, who went to galas and events with beautiful women, blonde and tall, tanned and thin. Far away from what Aurora was. He was undoubtedly a man who had a good position and makes the most of it.

But when Aurora worked with him, Conrad was a man simple man who stayed up late, who made a thousand calls, and who was now attentive to her… the young consultant had become someone essential to him.

It was evident that the business with Maledettos interested him, although he did his best not to show it. But Aurora felt that there was something else... Conrad looked at her differently, as if he had just realized that she exists. He had lunch with her, he talked with her, he presented her to new clients.

A few days ago, he didn't know her name and now if she suggests something or make some comments, he listened. He even makes those changes, that had never happened before! The CEO in the company she worked for years… suddenly is aware that she is a good employee. Margaret was ecstatic and was happy for her friend, she believed it was a unique opportunity and Aurora needed to take advantage of it, because she deserved it.

If this situation wasn't strange enough… Conrad received an invitation to and very important gala for CEO's and entrepreneurs… and ask her to go with him. He asked her to be the face of the company with him. She and him… face of Kol House. It has to be a joke. They will present their best projects and to talk about Kol House's upcoming business. Aurora was skeptical, but it was 100% true.

This was going very fast! and she didn't know how to take it. The gala was in a luxurious hotel, with lots of sponsors, government, private companies, among others. All very remarkable, it seems like a dream come true.

A couple of days before the big gala, she was working, rehearsing her presentation in an empty meeting room. It was her first time in this kind of events, so she needs to concentrate, and Aurora was the kind of person whom like to do the things as good as possible.

Suddenly she turns around and Conrad is watching her, who knows for how long. He looks tired but still charming, his light blue shirt is unbuttoned at the first buttons and the sleeves are rolled up to the elbow. It's his “I'm working late” look, and his tie must be already on the floor of his private office. He has a stubble blond beard and messy hair. He smiles at Aurora, she was a little shy because of his interruption.

—Please continue, I really like listening to your voice— he says calmly and sits in front of her. She continues with embarrassment and Conrad doesn't take his eyes off her, in fact he is serious, his chin resting on his hand, and his elbow on the table, as if he were thinking very deeply.

— Aurora… is excellent, you're going to be the pride of the company— he flatters her, and she doesn't know what to say.

—What's bothering you? —he asks worried.

—I'm afraid that at some point I'll forget something or go blank— she doesn't mention that she's never had an opportunity like this and is afraid of screwing up.

—Then, it's easy, I'll be close to you, so if you need someone to give you confidence… you can look at me, I'll be at your side for whatever you need—he adds smiling, and she blushes. That so thoughtful.

—Do you know what… you've worked too much, why don't we go to have some diner?— he asks suddenly.

Diner? It seems like a good opportunity for her, dinning with the CEO. She always complained that she was never going to get promoted, that nobody notices, right? So, she accepts.

They arrived at a beautiful place on a main street in the city, it's luxurious and Aurora feels a little out of place, but Conrad seems confident, even proud to be with her. However, he begins to ask her about her life, and she realizes that they have never talked about anything other than work. She knows nothing about him, and he knows nothing about her.

—How come you don't have many hobbies? Doesn't the CEO give you enough free time? — He says, and they laugh. But he really seems to want to know about her, Aurora thinks in astonishment, he stares at her, with those incredibly clear blue eyes, waiting for her answer.

—The reality is that… I have kind of weird…interests— she says as she looks at her plate, nervous.

—Let's see… try me—he says playfully, and his smile is contagious.

—Mmmm I like reading and also Roman culture. I'm also taking greek classes, and I… really like ancient history and astronomy—she says without going into many details, and from his face it's obvious that these hobbies never crossed his mind.

—Interesting… I never would have imagined it. I thought you were going to say something like… I don't know… watching television, posting on social media, buying makeup, those kinds of girly things—he says as if they were a bunch of nonsense. It seems a little strange to her that someone considers all girls to do the same.

—Mmmm no, not really… I guess each person is different, we all women have diverse hobbies—she says, it's seem as if that idea never crossed his mind.

—Sounds interesting. Do you live… with someone? — he asks her and she's edgy. It seems like a too personal question.

—Oh no, I live alone—she says, and he seems to like that answer a lot.

—So you're not with someone at the moment…— he suggests, and something tells her that he means a boyfriend. What….?

The rest of the night, he asks her indirect questions to find out if she's in a relationship, and she's puzzled by his interest. Finally, she admits that she's single, and he seems… satisfied?

It's like the world turn upside down and suddenly Aurora it's complete lost about what is happening in her life.
