Ch. 3 Another mate?

Alcina rolled to her other side and heard someone take in a sharp breath. She stilled quickly hoping they wouldn't notice she was awake. She wanted to leave. The pack would be after her soon since she was now a rouge. Rouge's from the silver moon pack never got far. She lay there for a few minutes and didn't hear anything else so she began to sit up. She wasn't expecting to see a man sitting there with a scar covering his left eye. Someone had burned him. He cleared his throat.

"I am alpha Xavier of the red dawn pack. I have a few questions." He answered standing up and stepping towards her. She quickly dropped her eyes to her lap and pointed to the bathroom door. "Of course. I can wait."

He caught what she was trying to say. She scrambled to the bathroom and shut the door. After relieving herself she was her hands and stepped back into the hospital room. She sniffed to clear her sinuses and caught scent of a wonderful smell. It was like a bon fire on a cool night mixed with orange blossom. She could be feel her wolf relaxing into ecstasy.

"Mate." Her wolf sighed in content. She didn't want to move or think. How is that possible? Brent was her mate. How could there be another mate?

"What's your name? Where are you from?" He spoke bringing her from her thoughts. She jumped slightly at the sound of his voice. Alcina hadn't spoken in years. Mainly because other than being given orders no one spoke to her. She cleared her throat lightly.

"I am Alcina." She replied with all her might but it came out as a small whisper. He stepped forward and she took a quick step back.

"I won't hurt you. I just wanna help. Who did this to you?" He said stepping forward again. She shook her head. How could she tell a stranger her life story. Mate or not, she couldn't bring herself to do it. "Okay. I won't force you to tell me, but please look at me."

She took a deep breath and summoned her courage before looking into a pair of hazel eyes that made her forget her fear. They stood together in the room just staring at each other for awhile. Unaware of having moved they now stood together, chests almost touching. She was just a few inches shorter, petite frame, brown hair and golden brown eyes. He watched as her dim, lifeless eyes started to shine with a small amount of hope. Seeing her eyes start to brighten he let out a breath of relief and moved to brush the hair away from her right eye. This broke her focus and she flinched, stepping back. His hand fell quickly back to his side.

"I'm sorry." She whispered looking down again. She kept her right eye covered because of her perfectly circular birthmark that graced her eye. People in blue moon pack told her it was a witches mark and that it was ugly so she kept it hidden.

"No. I'm sorry. You have boundaries and I will learn them. I don't know who hurt you but I hope someday you'll tell me. No matter how long it takes I'm here for you." He replied tempted to grab her hand. He quickly decided it wasn't the best idea, not knowing she craved contact too. She had been close enough to feel his warmth earlier and her body craved more. She craved his touch, his warmth. A knock pulled her from her thoughts and the doctor entered the room.

"Alpha. Sorry to interrupt but we need to draw some blood and run a few test. She should be back in about an hour." The doctor said with a slight bow in Xavier's direction.

"That's fine. I have a few things to tend to so I'll be back." He replied stiffly and left. Alcina felt empty without him in the room. The moment eye contact was made the mate bond began to take hold. Now she couldn't run away. No matter how fast or how far she would run there was no going back. The test took almost two hours and then they brought dinner.

Across the pack territory Xavier couldn't focus on his work. He had that girl on his mind. He didn't even know where she came from but he knew she needed him. Something about her physical state told him that she needed to be kept safe. He wouldn't let anyone touch her ever again.

"John? Are all records sorted alphabetically?" He asked from behind his desk.

"Xavier, your OCD is gonna be the death of me. We have them sorted by location. North, east, south, and west and then in alphabetical order based off of their location. Why?" He sighed dramatically.

"Her name is Alcina. I wanna know where she came from." He answered opening the draw for the eastern pack. Blue moon pack was the first and largest file so he pulled it. Looking through the name of pack members he couldn't find her name. File after file, name after name. He couldn't find this girl. She had to exist somewhere. Finally he got to a file for a pack a few miles north of the blue moon pack, the greyhounds. Pulling open the file the first thing he saw was her name. These were her people. They did this to her. Without her telling him up front though, there was nothing he could do. Looking down at his watch he noticed it had been almost two hours and decided to head back to the hospital.

Alcina sat in the solid white room thinking about the past few days when she realized two things. She was finally free, and she didn't even know her mates name. She decided she would ask when he came back. As she sat and thought, memories of her old life started coming back.

*Two years ago.

Alcina knelt down to pick up the shards of the plate she dropped but when she lowered her hand a black boot stomped down on it causing her hand to be sliced open. She did her best not to scream as the person twisted their ankle back and forth, digging small glass shards into her hand.

"Good morning, you useless bitch." Brent smirked down at her then kicked her in the stomach, walking away. She bent over gasping for breath. Brent had always treated her this way, from the day they killed her pack. She had a mother, father, and older brother before all this. Now whenever she tried thinking of them all she saw were blurry images with brown hair. She missed them. Something wet fell onto her hand breaking her thoughts. Looking down she saw a single tear and quickly wiped her face. The alpha told her, at the tender age of six, that tears were for the weak. She was their property now, so tears were not aloud. She wrapped her bloody hand in a paper towel and went back to cleaning up her mess.

"Someday we will be free and happy again. They did not die in vain." Her wolf spoke for the first time in months. The way they starved her kept her wolf floating in and out of consciousness. They weren't even sure she had one because she never shifted. The pain of being unable to shift was on a different level. A wolf was supposed to be a gift from the moon goddess and being unable to use it could cause severe sickness or even death for some wolves, but no one in the pack cared if Alcina died. She was trash taken from a now long dead pack.

*Present day

The hospital door opened causing Alcina to jump and hide next to the bed. The instinctive movement reminded her that she wasn't in blue moon anymore. She was at red dawn. She could recall hearing about this pack from alpha Zane, Brent's father. They were said to be the toughest pack in the US. They would take in rouge's depending on why they were removed from a pack or why they left. Most rouge's who joined alpha Xavier left willingly.

"Hello Alcina. I hope your test went well." Xavier said entering the room with a bag in his hands. She simply nodded sitting back on the bed as she began to blush at her earlier actions. "I have a few questions if you don't mind."

Xavier crossed the room and pulled the chair in the corner closer to Alcina. He sat the bag on the bed and took a seat. She looked at the bag for a moment then at Xavier.

"Are you from the Greyhound pack?" He asked golfing his head slightly to the side. She shook her head no. "That's not what my records say."

"Greyhound pack is dead. Blue Moon killed them. All of them." She answered and her eyes began to glaze over as she remembered the day they were killed and shook off the memory. "It happened thirteen years ago."

"So the blue moon did this to you? Do they even know that people don't keep slaves anymore?" He huffed in anger. There was a light knock on the door and the doctor entered.

"Alcina, your results are in. Other than low iron and slightly low blood sugar you seem to be in good health. You do have two cracked ribs but a few days of proper meals and you'll heal nicely. Take these as needed for pain and here is some antibacterial ointment for the cuts." She said smiling down at Alcina. "Other than that you are free to go."

"I have a room prepared if you would like to go change I'll wait here." Xavier said standing up. Alcina grabbed the bag he had set on the bed and went to get dressed.
