CHAPTER 5: FIXING THE PROBLEM

Gabriel's POV

"What Happened Honey?" My father's deep voice echoed through the hallway a moment before he entered the kitchen. He looked at us and narrowed his eyes, silently warning us to spill the beans. I gulped and was just about to tell him when the twins came barreling down the stairs.

"Daddy!" They yelled in unison before attacking his legs. He grinned and then picked them up in each arm.

"How are my little soldiers doing?" He asked and they giggled.

"Fine! Guess what Daddy! Mommy made us cookies and then we got to play with Grant!! And if we're good, Mommy said we could have another cookie after dinner too" Greyson yelled and Garrett cheered. Dad smiled and gently sent them down.

"That's wonderful boys! Now go help Mommy with Grant while I talk to your brothers" he said and they nodded.

"Okay Daddy!!"

My dad turned on us and raised an eyebrow. I scratched my neck nervously and Gavin started whistling.

"Boys" he started "Start talking you two" I sighed and then began explaining the situation. Dad listen thoughtfully and was quiet after I finished the story. I was starting to get a little worried. I was just about to ask him what he thought about the whole situation when he gave me the most biggest and proudest smile in the whole world.

"That's wonderful Son! Congratulations! Now when do we get to meet her?" He asked and my mouth dropped opened. Even Gavin was surprised. His mouth was open too.

"Huh?" Was all that I was able to say at the moment. "Why aren't you freaking out like Mom?" He laughed.

"Because my first born Son finally found his one true love. The only reason your Mother's upset is because you didn't tell her what was going on right away" he said and I smiled. I was just about to say something when I heard a smacking noise. I looked up and saw my dad cringing while holding his head. He turned around and Mom was standing there with her hands on her hips and her foot tapping the ground. Gavin and I stepped back, far away from Mom. Dad flinched and tried to soften her up.

"Hey Honey! How was your day!" He said going up to her and trying to plant a kiss on her lips.

Key Word: Trying

She stopped him midway.

"Estúpido! ¿Qué estás enseñando a mis hijos! Eso no es la única razón por la que me asusté!" (Stupid! What are you teaching my Sons! That's not the only reason why I freaked out!) he cringed and started shaking his head rapidly.

"Jennifer, Please Honey! I'm sorry! I didn't mean it" he said trying to calm her down. She glared.

"Todos ustedes! Cocina AHORA!" (All of you! Kitchen NOW!) she yelled pointing to the kitchen. Dad, Gavin, and I nearly tripper over each other running to the kitchen. We might be wolves but, I swear, My mother can make the scariest of men cry.

We all sat at the table like good little boys, when my mother walked in muttering the Lord's prayer. My dad chuckled but quickly covered it up with a cough when she glared at him. She took a deep breath one more time before making her to the table. All three of us cowered in fear.

"Now Gabriel, please tell us about your mate" she asked and I slowly nodded my head.

"Well she just moved here and her name is Evangeline. I met her in Government class today and that's all I really know Mom" I said and she nodded. She turned to my dad and looked him in the eyes.

"How is it possible that he met his mate so fast? I mean we met 2 years after that dream?"

"I don't know Honey? This is news to me too" he said.

"Bueno te vale saber !! Este es mi bebé! Juro que si él consigue su corazón roto, voy a culpo !!" (Well you better find out! This is my baby boy! I swear if he gets his heart broken, I'll blame you) she yelled. He flinched and then looked at me.

"She said that you better find out why I met her so soon" I said and he nodded. My mother looked at me and smiled.

"I'm so proud of you baby boy! I can't wait to meet her!" She said getting out of her chair and kissing my face. I laughed and hugged her tightly.

"Thanks Mom, this really means a lot to me that you approve" I said and she smiled.

"Of course mi amor! I would always approve of you boys. You guys are my heart and soul. All of you" she said looking at Gavin, Dad, and I. We all smiled and Mom kissed each of our heads.

Her eyes narrowed and then her face turned serious.

"Now all of you! Go wash up for dinner!"

We all ran out of the room and I saw the twins running to the kitchen.

Evangeline's POV

School just got out and now I'm waiting for my Mother.

In the pouring rain.

Wonderful.

I can't believe she forgot that today was going to be pouring. Just as I was about to give up and start walking home in the rain, Dorothea's old Ford Mustang pulled up to the curb.

I jumped up and went to greet my mom, when I stopped dead in my tracks.

Instead of seeing mom in the driver's seat, I found Dorothea. And boy, did she not look happy. She rolled down her window and beckoned me to her car.

"Come on, you can't stand in that rain all day! Move it girl!" She said and I snapped out of my trance while making my way to her car. I got in and quickly buckled my seatbelt. She took off and we were engulfed in a awkward silence. I broke it when I couldn't take it anymore.

"So where's my mom?"

"She's interviewing at the hospital. She should be back at 4" she said and I nodded.

"Thank you for picking me up" I said and then she nodded. Well, apparently someone doesn't like to talk.

I looked out my window and we were silent the entire ride home. She turned on a dirt road and we soon entered that dark and creepy forest again. It felt 20x more creepier with Dorothea. She looked like she belonged here. I didn't. Just as I was about to start conversation again, she pulled out side of the house and immediately jumped out. I rolled my eyes. Could she be more obvious? I mean it doesn't take a genius to figure out she doesn't like me. I was on the steps of the house when she turned around and handed me her keys with a list. I looked at her quizzically.

"Take my car and go into town for me please. I need some things to make dinner tonight" she said and I nodded "Besides, your mother should be ready by the time your done."

"Okay?" I said and with that she walked into the house and slammed the door shut. I rolled my eyes, silently thanking God for the opportunity.

I decided to get the groceries first before I picked up my mom. She texted me say that she needed a few more minutes anyway.

I arrived at the local Von's and parked. I'm glad that this small town has at least a well-known market. I went inside and tried to get everything Dorothea needed. When I arrived at the fruit section I decided I wanted strawberries so, I reached for the one I wanted the exact time someone else did. Our hands touched and I felt little tiny shocks go up my arm. When I followed the person's arm up to their face, I was shocked with whose face I met.

"Gabriel?"

"Hey Evangeline! What are you doing here?" He asked while scratching his neck nervously. I chuckled and he smiled.

"Well, I'm just getting groceries for my great-grandma, since you know, it is a market" I said and he laughed.

"Yeah, sorry I asked a stupid question" he said and we both went into awkward silence. He spoke up before it got too weird.

"I'm sorry I grabbed your strawberries, here you go!" He said nervously. I shook my head.

"No, it's okay. I'll just pick another set" I said and he shook his head.

"No it's okay, I pick another one, my mother can wait another 5 minutes" he said and I laughed.

"Okay, well if you insist" I said and he nodded. "So you playing errand boy too" I asked and he laughed.

"Yeah, I guess so. Mom sent me and my brother to go get strawberries for her pie" he said and I laughed.

"Yeah, I wish I had someone to help me shop for this list. I mean come on! How much does this woman need?" I said and he laughed. He was about to say something when someone interrupted him.

"Gabriel! I wanna go home now! Grocery shopping is B-O-R-I-N-G" a boy said behind us. We both turned around and there stood a boy probably a year younger than us pouting. He had light brown hair with brown eyes. He must have been 6 ft tall. Definitely taller than me but, still shorter than Gabriel. When he say me talking to his brother, his eyes brightened and he smirked.

"Well hello there pretty lady" the boy said while holding out his hand. I took it and he brought it to his mouth and kissed the knuckles. A low growling sound came where Gabriel was standing and both the boy's and I's heads snapped to him. The boy paled and his eyes widened before dropping my hand. Gabriel glared one last time before turning to me and smiling.

"I'm sorry Evangeline. This is my idiotic brother Gavin" he pointed at the boy. Gavin bowed and I laughed. Gabriel rolled his eyes. "Gavin this is Evangeline"

"Well it's nice to meet you Evangeline. Gabriel talks about you a lot" he said and I blushed. Gabriel shot daggers at Gavin with his eyes. I raised an eyebrow and this time it was Gabriel who blushed. Gavin snickered.

"Well...uh...since your new... um?" Gabriel started but I stopped him.

"It's okay, I get it" I said and he looked relieved. "Now if you'll excuse me boys, I have to finish shopping or else my Mom will be a raging mad woman if I'm late picking her up" I said and they nodded. I was just about to head the other way when Gavin stopped me.

"Evangeline, would you like to have dinner with us tonight?"

"Oh, thank you but..." I started but my phone rang. I quickly excused myself and the boys nodded. I picked up the phone on the 3rd ring.

"Hello?" I asked

"Eva?" My mom said

"Yes Mom? I'm on my way now" I said

"Oh sweetie, where are you?" She asked.

"I'm at the market. Dorothea asked me to get her some groceries" I said and my mother sighed in relief. I was so confused. "Mom are you okay" she laughed.

"Yes sweetheart, I'm just glad I caught you. Dorothea called me and told me to tell you that she didn't need the groceries anymore because it was bingo night. Also I don't need to be picked up anymore because it turns out that their gonna have me follow around some nurses, so I could get used to how everything works in this town" she said and I sighed. "I'm sorry I didn't call you sooner Eva" I laughed.

"It's not your fault Mom"I said "I love you and call me if you need me to pick you up"

"Okay, pumpkin. Sweet dreams and drive safe. Love you" she said and then hung up. I turned back to the boys who were waiting patiently. When they saw me, they had huge smiles on their faces. I raised an eyebrow.

"Are you okay?" Gabriel asked concerned and I smiled.

"Yes, but apparently my errand services are not required anymore" I said and they laughed.

"So that means you'll have dinner with our family?" Gavin asked and I nodded.

"If that's okay with your parents?" I asked. "I mean, I wouldn't want to impose" I said and Gabriel shook his head.

"Not at all! My parents love having people over" he said and I nodded. We were about to leave before I ran back to the fruit aisle and payed for the strawberries. Gabriel nodded to his car which was coincidentally parked next to mine.

"Okay Evangeline, follow us home" Gabriel said and I nodded.

Soon, we were on the road and all I was thinking was what have I got myself into.
