Vampires are not your friends.

-Mayilla-

One year ago.

--

“Vampires are not your friends. Seeing everyone with a good heart may get you killed one day, Mayilla.” Tekashi told me, as we walked the market of Scilla in the kingdom of magic.

“I know, and still yet not every one of them is bad.” I told Tekashi, while we came to a stop at the shop in front of us, and he faced me squarely.

“Don’t be naive Mayilla,” Tekashi stated clearly, while I remained silent and stared at him. Most particularly his eyes, which I always teased to be the tiniest I had ever seen, not to talk of his bald head which made him look like a monk. “The world is a cruel place than you see it to be and honestly I am surprised, because you of all person should know that with what you went through.” Tekashi adds, whereas I remained silent as only my gaze shifted away from his, with memories of my past haunting me. Tekashi is one of the few who knew about my true past and my mothers death, for our relationship has become cordial having known each other for eight years.

I met Tekashi while I was pursued by creatures whom had gone rogues around the Caline forest, which is in the outskirts of the magical kingdom. He saved me from them, having used his magic to wade them off, despite I was a stranger to him. And ever since that day, Tekashi had taken me in to live with him in the magical kingdom.

“Want a reading child?” Tekashi’s gaze and I turned to meet the old woman who stood in front of us abruptly.

“No…thank you.” My gaze rested on the woman whose clothes consisted of a brown jagged Cotten dress and a faded hat, while I stared at her cautiously.

“Oh don’t say that child. Wouldn’t you like to know what the future held for you. Not all witches or wizards can tell a person’s future.” The woman insisted, as her words drove me to pass a glance at Tekashi whom remained speechless. Indeed she is right, for it is rare to find a wizard or witch who is an elemental and also one who practices spells and magic together, ad for Tekashi, he is an elemental for fire. Although, there are certain wizards or witches whom are blessed with the ability to have practiced both, and they are called Siphons.

“No thank you. I’m not a believer of such, for I believe everyone gets to write their own destiny themselves.” My tone came soft, but firm to the woman, whereas Tekashi remained silent and uninterested.

“The heavens have already written it all child.” The woman responded, with her gaze which gave off an eerie feeling in my bones. “Why don’t I read your friend, and if I am correct with his present life, I shall read yours.” She added with her gaze moved to Tekashi.

“I am quite fine. There is no need.” Tekashi responded in an instant, as it was her turn to remain silent. My gaze moved from the jagged woman to Tekashi, as I debated if I should give it a try or not, and when I made my decision, my gaze rested on the woman squarely.

“Alright, read then.” I decided before stretching out my palm, which erupted a smile from the woman, while I watched her cautiously and so did Tekashi. Her bright gaze began to become furrowed eyebrows and a titled neck, while she stretched the lines of my palms further, for something I thought would only take seconds began to take minutes, yet that was the least of my stun, until her gaze rose up and jammed with mine, and heaven bears me witness for I had never seen such amount of fear in a persons eyes before.

“What are you?” Was her first question to me, as it became my turn to have a wide eye in bewilderment.

“What…what did you see?” I asked her impatiently, while my one hand which stayed with her began to hurt in her tight grip.

“How can a person have this much chaos in their life. You will bring end to our world. You should never have been born!” I yelped my hand away from her grip with force which caused me to stumbled back at the harshness of her words, but thankfully Tekashi was behind me to grab me from falling, as when my gaze reached him, I saw worry and anger in his eyes, yet that wasn’t all, as there was a third.

Fear.

————————-

Present

--

Numbness.

The exact word which described my present, as the scream which had erupted from my lips earlier shook my body, that even as I watched the man in front of me ripped Elena apart, I neither could say anything nor do anything. Her lifeless body dropped to the floor, as I fell to my knees with hands that trembled reached her and tears strolled down my eyes like a gushing tap. My hands began beating the ground forcefully till it bled out, as I hoped that I would feel something else asides the pain in my heart, and when such didn’t happen, another deep scream of agony escaped my lips, before I buried my body on top of Elena, with regret and guilt having filled my entire body.

The sound of a roar perked my ears, as that got me to raise my head from Elena’s lifeless body to see the beast whom had killed her approach me, as the hunger that filled his eyes earlier still remained present. One would assume I had a plan, for I neither said a word of plea nor moved my body, rather I surrendered to whatever it was the heaven chose for me at that point when everything in me died and I no longer wanted to live.

“Tegan!” A voice roared through the forest, for the authority and power that laid in it, drove me to have no choice but to look it’s way, which caused my gaze to land on a man with a fair skin, tall and built that if I stood anywhere close to him, I would be unrecognizable. His steps one after the other, as from where I stayed I saw the fierceness of his eyes and the crown which rested on his head. And it was then I realized whom approached us.

Atterion. The king of the vampire kingdom.

King Atterion reached us, as I continued to raise my head in stare at him from the ground which I lay, for when he passed me a glance, shiver ran down my spine in fear, fortunately his gaze at me was short and proceeded to the beast whom killed Elena.

“How dare you defy me Tegan!” King Atterion’s voice roared the entire forest that I shook repeatedly, unlike the beast who did nothing but stared back angrily and roaring profusely. “I see your hunger knows no respect for you king.” King Atterion added as I could only watch the scene in from of me of the beast whom I had come to realize bore the name Tegan and the king. “Chain him!” King Atterion ordered with his gaze as hard as that of a rock. “You may be my son, but I will never watch you destroy my kingdom, even if it means I have to put you down myself.” My gaze went wide at the words king Atterion spoke, as I had never guessed for Tegan to be the son of a king nor a prince, yet, if watched closely I began to see the resemblance in physique.

Tegan roared loudly in pain, as chains of iron steel circled his neck and limbs, till he was having his knees to the ground, with his height at the same level as mine. I watched horrified, as a father pushed down his son through agony, while tears continued to stroll down my eyes again, with no reason to know if it was because of Elena or Tegan this time around, for when my gaze would intertwine with the man turned beast, I saw something I never should have in those black red eyes of his.

Remorse.

“And you.” My gaze shifted from Tegan, as I now stared back in fear at King Atterion whom spoke to me. “Look where you have gotten yourself. Your friend may have died an horrible death, yet I do not feel any remorse for you, knowing you brought this upon yourself.” King Atterion spoke. “I should behead you for trying to escape, but I believe my son has done justice for your punishment.” He added, as all I could do was stay silent and let my body tremble in fear and pain at the cruelty this people had. “Take her back to the dungeons and dispose the body!” King Atterion voice rang in my ears, while my eyes close shut with a tear strolling down my eyes at the end of his words, yet, that wasn’t the only thing that rang in my ears, but also the words of Tekashi.

‘Vampires are not your friends.’
