Chapter 3

-Hey! – I heard Aldahir’s voice suddenly

I immediately turned around to him smiling, he smiled back and kissed me on the check.

-What are you doing here? – He asked me

-Looking for you

-I have to train… Would you wait for me?

I nodded and watched him run to the training area where he was received with a death glare by pretty much everyone there. I sat on the ground a few meters away from the training area to wait for Aldahir to be done, I decided to simply sit there and watch them train.

I had always found very entertaining to watch them nearly kill each other in every single training session. One of the advantages of being a wolf is how quickly we heal, like crazy quick, depending on the kind of wound it could leave some scaring behind but more often than not we heal. Of course there are things that can kill us – and no, silver is not one of those, that’s nothing but a rumor made up by some of the first generations of werewolves – example, if our heart is taken out of our chest we die, if half our head is blown out we die and Aconite or Wolfsbane, which is a poisonous plant for many animals, specially wolves is obviously toxic for us.

I watched Aldahir and the others training for what seemed like hours, but I have to admit I was never bored. When they finally finished Aldahir helped one of the younger boys to stand up, when he got up he spit up a bit of blood and gave a menacing glare to Aldahir, who simply shrugged his shoulders, gave him a few pats on the back and walked towards me.

-I’m ready, let’s go – said Aldahir offering me his hands to help me stand up

I grabbed his hands allowing him to help me get up, smiled at him, grabbed his hand interlocking our fingers and started walking through the woods until we reached the hollow log where we hid our things the night before.

-Do you know who you’re choosing yet? – Asked Aldahir taking me by surprise

I simply gave him a sideways look and gestured no with my head, this made laugh and he pulled me into a hug.

-Could you just let me enjoy my last day of freedom? – I asked laying my head on his cheast

-It doesn’t have to be your last one Dhalia – he said pushing me away from him so he could look me in the eye

I did my best to avoid making eye contact with him and tried to get away from him but he stopped me grabbing me by the arm.

-What did I say? – He asked me looking concerned

-I just wish you were right

-I am – he said pulling me closer to him – and you know it, you could just get the hell away from this place whenever you want and I would go with you

-Is not that easy, I’ve told you about it already

-Whatever – he said getting irritated and letting go of me – let’s just pick up our things so we can get back and your family can keep on organizing and planning the rest of your life without even taking you into consideration

I sighed heavily and walked behind him. As soon as we got to the log Aldahir pulled out our things, he handed me mine along with an angry glance and sat down on the ground to shake off whatever dirt was on his clothes.

-It just doesn’t make sense, you know? – Said Aldahir suddenly making me jump – why am I more upset and confused about it than you are?

-Because you weren’t raised to believe your wants and desires are worth nothing and that the most important thing in the whole world is to keep a pure bloodline – I explained shrugging my shoulders

-I’m sorry, I just don’t get it – he said frustrated

-What exactly don’t you understand? – I asked sitting next to him so he could have a civilized conversation

-Other than your whole tradition seems to belong to the eighteen Century, a lot of things, it may seem stupid but if the goal of the union is to have a descendant with pure blood, how would that work if you were to choose Alisha?

-Unfortunately, your sexual orientation isn’t really taken into consideration, but in this case if I were to choose Alisha she would become my wife and we would live together as a couple but I would have to have a child with her older brother Charles

After my explanation Aldahir looked at me with nothing but confusion and a bit of concern in his face, which made me think he was probably mentally seeing a pretty horrific image involving Charles and I.

-I wouldn’t have sex with Charles, my father works at the fertility clinic in the human town, it would be through there

-That makes a little more sense – said Aldahir with a straight face – so, who are you choosing? – He asked again

-I still have no clue, if I could I would choose you

-I know, I’m sorry about earlier – he said pulling me into a hug

-I should be the one apologizing, not you

-Why?

-Our relationship, there was no way it wouldn’t end badly

-Last time I checked you didn’t force me to fall in love with you, or forced me to date you, actually I’m pretty sure I was the one who insisted on being together even knowing how it would end

His words made me laugh softly and I kissed him shortly on the lips, after we kissed he smiled at me and grabbed my hand, we finished picking up our things and headed back to the town. On our way back I decided to turn my cellphone back on to, probably, see about a million texts from my mother but it decided not to work.

-It seems like you forgot to charge it – said Aldahir laughing at me

-I didn’t, it was fully charged last night and the battery couldn’t have died while it was off – I said irritated

-So your phone just decided to give up on life

-It seems like it, we could go to the human town and see it they can fix it – I proposed to Aldahir

-You’re desperate to get out of here, aren’t you?

-Pretty desperate, would you come with me?

-Of course – he said with a sideways smile

I smiled back at him and headed to my house. When we arrived we decided to get in through my bedroom window in an attempt to avoid my parents, Aldahir put his things on the shelf in my closet I had for him while I grabbed some money to pay for the phone repairs. Once we had what we needed we got out of my room and headed down the hall towards the back door.

-Where do you think you’re going Dhalia? – I heard my mother’s voice behind us

Aldahir immediately turned on his hells to face my mother and vowed to her putting one of his knees on the floor.

-Aldahir don’t be ridiculous – I reprehended him getting angry

-This, is a show of respect my dear – said my mother walking towards him – thank you, you can now stand – added grabbing him by the shoulder

Aldahir nodded and got back on his feet placing his hands behind his back keeping his eyes on the floor.

-I need to go to the human town, my phone stopped working – I explained to my mother

-Alright, do you need any money?

-No, I have my own

-Fine, so I’m going to assign one of our warriors to accompany you

-That won’t be necessary – I said quickly – Aldahir is coming with me to make sure everything goes as planned

My mother raised her eyebrows signaling how disappointed she was and crossed her arms over her chest, but she didn’t say a word so I took advantage of the situation, grabbed Aldahir’s hand and dragged him with me outside the house.
